A third President Bush? No thanks. The Oval Office is no place for nepotism
Sacramento Bee ^ | Nov 24 2012 | Foon Rhee

As Barack Obama and many others never tire of telling us, part of the American Dream is that anyone can grow up to be president.

That's not exactly true, of course. It takes smarts and charisma, ambition and ego, money and key allies, and quite a bit of luck to get anywhere close to the White House.

Still, we're not supposed to have political royalty in our democracy, born of a revolution against the British king.

So it made me cringe to see the story on the front page of Friday's New York Times, also published in The Bee, about supporters already talking up Jeb Bush as a potential presidential contender in 2016. That would be the former Florida governor who is the son of George H.W. Bush, our 41st president, and brother of George W. Bush, our 43rd.

skeletons in the closet sure to be brought out (both involving Jeb’s kids, or “the little brown ones” as Grandpa called them). Fair to bring these up? Maybe yes, maybe no, Will they? You bet:

>> Gov. Jeb Bush’s son arrested in Texas<
September 16, 2005
HOUSTON (Reuters) – John Ellis Bush, the son of Florida
Gov. Jeb Bush and nephew of President George W. Bush, was
arrested in Austin, Texas, on Friday on charges of public
intoxication and resisting arrest, police said.

>>The daughter of Florida Gov. Jeb Bush was arrested early Tuesday after she allegedly tried to fill a false prescription at a Tallahassee, Florida, pharmacy, police said.

Police arrested Noelle Bush, 24, at about 1:15 a.m. EST at a Walgreens drugstore and charged her with fraudulently obtaining a controlled substance, a jail spokesman said. Police said she was attempting to pick up Xanax, a sedative used to treat anxiety disorder. The governor and his wife, Columba, released a statement following the arrest.

“Columba and I are deeply saddened over an incident that occurred last night involving our daughter Noelle,” the statement said.

“This is a very serious problem. Unfortunately, substance abuse is an issue confronting many families across our nation,” the statement said.

Why should his base keep caring about the MSM.

Early America was marked by every kind of pamphlet imaginable.

His son, George P. is photogenic and thinking about political office. I’d vote for him.
Oh, please. Give us a break.
************************************
George P. is a successful lawyer in Texas who is considering running for a State political position. I think I heard it was something like Land Commissioner.

With regard to Jeb... Hell no! The liberal is 100% for amnesty for illegal aliens, based on what I’ve seen in his interviews.

A few years ago, I responded to an article about Jeb Bush becoming POTUS on freerepublic, and for saying that “I have had enough of guys named Bush in the White House,” I was summarily banned from posting again.

Never fully understood that.

So Romney, Bush 1&2, McCain doesn’t meet the purity test... Did the 12 years of Bush stewardship really harm the Republic? I made a decent wage, had job security, I believed the country was protected. I believed the Prez was decent. Honestly I’d be happy with Jeb.

Did the 12 years of Bush stewardship really harm the Republic?

Well, under Bush 2, we hd the largest deficit spending terms until Obummer came along. We also had no recourse given to us to curb the massive increase in Gum't union power. Zero just concentrated it, as any good "community organizer" would doubtless do...

So you go for big-time, amnesty-pushing RINOs?

Don’t think voters might have had too much of the Bushes already?

David Frum, is that you?

No place for nepotism?

Tell it to the Adamses and the Roosevelts; they seem to have done okay.

In a free republic, everything doesn't always go our way. It's a government of, by, and for the people. It (should) be up to the people whether they want to vote for relatives or not. And if it's a Christian society, God will be active in the process as well, as He has in America.

The alternative is an oligarchy or dictatorship where you, as dictator, decide what's best for everyone else. You may be right in banning "nepotism" but, of course, the freedom to choose has been taken away,

Another Bush is Karl Rove’s last chance.

You can bet on it....unless he falls in love with Christy.

But then Christy and Rove are so different in personality it is hard to imagine the two of them getting along.

Christy is not going to be one to follow instructions from Rove during the campaign.

OK, forget the NAME for a second.

No. The apple doesn't fall far from the horse.

I'd vote for him.

Just keep lining up RINOS... Just keep failing. That's a good way to succeed.

Personally, I don’t think a democratic republic is well served by political family dynasties. A benevolent political “G-d” would ban all of them - the Kennedys, Bushes, Cuomos, Clintoons, etc., etc., etc. Just an opinion.

My view of them personally, is without regardl to their views on government. I really don’t believe it is the “spirit of public service” that motivates them. I think they view themselves as being incapable of any greater achievment than what they can obtain trading on their family name.
