Wide racial gap exists on speed of Boston-area commutes
Boston Globe ^ | November 24, 2012 | Eric Moskowitz

At the end of a recent community meeting on the state transportation system, a grandmotherly woman with a lyrical Caribbean accent strode up to the top transportation official in Massachusetts, dispensing with pleasantries.

“Let me tell you something,” she told Transportation Secretary Richard A. Davey. “I am so upset with Number 28.”

Actually, the article talked about how black bus riders have longer, slower commutes than white bus riders. It’s probably more of a function of living in congested areas further from places of employment than anything to do with the quality of the bus system.

Drove back one night last month picking up my wife from a trip to California. From the airport all the way north through Atlanta, the expressway lights were dark - no money to light them. They didn’t come back on until somewhere north of Fulton county until we reached Cobb County.

Welcome to the Third World, it's a shame this crap is going on in this country.

I've heard it all.

Racist mass transit. Unbelievable. The Klan set up the routes?

When driving there, I always make sure I have my 1911A1 and three clips loaded with 45 ACP DRT ammo.

"She meant the bus route between Ruggles and Mattapan, which she boarded just after 5 p.m. at Roxbury Community College, to reach the meeting 4½ miles away at Mattapan’s branch library. “It took an hour and 15 minutes to get here,” she said, narrowing her eyes."

Has she ever heard about walking?

When I worked in New York, I almost always walked from the train station to my office. Killing two birds with one stone, getting to the office, and exercise. It took slightly more time than the subway, and was probably much faster than the bus.

I don’t know of anyone or anything that is preventing her from moving to a more convenient area. She remains in her hell hole of her own free will. She can’t understand how to better her situation. This is what socialism is causing & she is not smart enough to get it. It is easier to blame the so called “rich” than to improve her life.

We live an hour outside of Memphis. You would NOT want to have car trouble in a bad area there. I stopped going to my favorite mall there years ago because of all the crime. Even in the revitalized mid-town area the crime is bad.

There was an article in the New York Times a few weeks ago about lack of sleeping and how it related to race.

Eventually we are going to realize that not being black is a racist act in and of itself, and deserving of capital punishment.

That's what "Knockout King" is all about.

Why is it always about skin color with the left?

Actually, the liberal “solution” here is to make cars prohibitively expensive to drive so that whites, after being forced by raw economics into the mass transit system, have just as slow of a commute as blacks. That is the liberal approach to equality - make things suck just as bad for everyone. Except for the ever-important decision-makers, of course.

You would never get hired by a mass transit authority. They constantly tweak schedules, with the tweaks almost always making the schedules worse.

The real issue is simple that commuting by car is apparently faster than commuting by bus.

I lived in Williansville, a suburb of Buffalo. I had a 20 minute drive downtown to work. I tried the 'Rapid Transit' system - 12 minutes to the station, 15 minute walk and wait for train, 30 minute ride. Took about an hour. There are only a few places in the US where public transportation makes sense.

Votes. Brainwashing and guaranteed dependency makes Pelosi, Reid, Clinton(s), etc. very rich and powerful.

It hacks me off that the legislature continues to let the City run ATL as a cronyism fiefdom. They need to take that playtoy away.

yeah, let’s start doing what the Nazis did and only letting those who can prove they are “of color” ride on the public transportation. The Caucasians can fend for themselves.

Is Poor Charley still on the MTA? He’s had a long ride, but he only owes another nickel.

My son takes a commuter boat to work in Boston. It’s a 15minute drive to the boat and a pretty relaxing ride back and forth everyday. It’s not cheap but it beats the drive which is probably 20 miles and can take well over an hour.
