well the new rat governor.....we haven't had a pub governor for something like 30 yrs...well the new rat gov pledged that he was NOT going to raise taxes...

so you see, the old rat gov will get the taxes all passed so the new rat gov. can say he didn't do it....

Gregoire is apiece of work....she brokered that big tobacco deal, and then instead of leaving the money as it was intended to parse it out over many years, the state grabbed the entire amt and used it up immediately....

and of course our state has had all these budget woes, what with the govt unions running the state and all...

then cut the taxes on main street businesses....most people would rather go to a store, look, touch, and inspect an item before buying anyway....

so just cut the taxes period...

>She is absolutely right, tax free on line sales are “killing” main street business in the USA. It is an unfair situation. The only people gaining are UPS and FedX.

And the customers that don’t have to pay the tax are not gaining?

Why would any sane person even consider giving government more money to waste on the lazy and welfare crowd?

Yes, that's true, but you do pay sales tax to Sears, Penneys and a few others, the unfairness goes a lot deeper than what one thinks. I don't want to argue or disillusion you but of the few companies that do collect and remit sales tax to the states, there are litterally hundreds of companies that don't. It amounts to many many lost dollars for state coffers and local retailers. The lady is right, please research it a little deeper, thanks.

Look at it this way, less local jobs, less local school money, less local infrastructure money, fewer local businesses and government is who “we” elect. The “I got mine, now you get yours” attitude is cute, but it won’t pay the bills very long.

Ostensibly, the sales tax you pay when you shop at the local "brick and mortar" store is justified by the government providing services and infrastructure that facilitates that transaction.

To hear the politicians tell it, the money is being used to support the local businesses. The local businesses would prefer that you buy from them and not do your shopping on the internet. By making local sales taxes apply to those out-of-state internet sales, you are forcing the internet retailer to absorb the cost of collecting and sending those tax monies to the state, where they will be spent to benefit brick and mortar stores that are the direct competitors of the internet retailer, and will put them out of business if they can. How is that fair?

No, No, No, she is right, if the states don’t do it, the Feds will, then you do have a problem, please look at this a little more and help this Lady if you can. I am not a Lib, but I agree with her, thanks.

Yes, that's true, but you do pay sales tax to Sears, Penneys and a few others, the unfairness goes a lot deeper than what one thinks.

That is because they have physical presence in the state.

The lady is right, please research it a little deeper, thanks.

No, the lady is wrong - and I have done my research. Why should a retailer located in, say, Delaware which has no sales tax and no physical presence in Washington have to worry about collecting Washington sales tax? Why do you wish to put undue burdens on small businesses? And why do you wish to force more taxes on your fellow freepers?

Shipping charges are your excuse —= they do not pay city bills or infrastructure costs. Please come out of the shallows and get some depth in your thinking, you are wrong, this Lady is right, please help her while you can, thanks.

Please explain to me why, as a resident of Virginia, I should pay ales tax to an business in Washington? I am already obligated to pay Virginia sales/use tax on my purchase and you wish to double tax me now?

I am under now obligation in any way shape or form to pay for the misguided spending habits of your government.

And BTW - Gregoire is NO lady.

Hello.........there is huge UPS depot and a pretty good size Fedex office in my town. I have a feeling they are not exempt from any city taxes. And they employ hundreds of people.

Nope, I live in Oregon, which has no sales tax. Even if I lived in WA, I would only collect sales tax from in state buyers, which is how it should be.

Gregoire wants to tax the freaking world for being stupid enough to buy from a WA based seller. This will not increase revenue for WA, it will merely make it harder for WA businesses to compete on price and attract customers.

She is a greedy fool that thinks wealth comes from the Fed printing press and that businesses can be endlessly squeezed for more revenue juice.

Lets get on the same page. If a given state has a sales tax, then that % of sales tax should be added to any taxable sale made in that state regardless of where the item comes from. Those states without a sales tax have other means of collecting those monies, higher license fees, higher property taxes, higher utility rates and other means of acquisitions.

Yeah well if the “Teamsters” had any real concern about people they would insist that state taxes be paid on the items they deliver. Look at their track record, when and where have they ever done anything out of the goodness of humanity?

Fine. An excellent lesson in free market economics for the idiots who keep electing these idiots.
