In just two quick meetings on Capitol Hill, Susan Rice may have blown up any goodwill she had with the very senators she’ll need for confirmation if she’s ever tapped as the next secretary of state.
Over the past two days, four key Republican senators have emerged from private meetings to blast the United Nations ambassador’s explanation about what happened during and after the deadly attacks on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Libya.
It’s not clear what Rice said behind closed doors to anger all these senators, but it’s obvious the meetings went badly and this was hardly a nominee-in-waiting charm offensive.
Even Sen. Susan Collins of Maine, just the type of moderate Republican who might help break a filibuster on a nomination, said there were still too many questions about why Rice incorrectly characterized the Sept. 11 assault in five Sunday talk show interviews as the result of spontaneous protests at the same time the Libyan president was calling it a terrorist attack.
“I don’t understand why she would not at least qualify her response to that question,” Collins told reporters after emerging from a 75-minute, closed-door meeting with Rice.
The Wednesday meeting in a secure briefing room in the Capitol basement came a day after a similar sit-down Rice had with three key voices on foreign policy and defense issues went terribly wrong. GOP Sens. John McCain, Lindsey Graham and Kelly Ayotte, all members of the Armed Services Committee, said they were more “troubled” about the Benghazi affair than they had been before their meeting with Rice.
And Graham and Ayotte went so far as to say they would place a hold on her possible nomination.
“If she were nominated tomorrow, I would hold her because we still have questions that have not been answered,” Ayotte told POLITICO

None of this really matters, does it? If the Fuhrer wants Rice to be SOS, it will be done.

I agree with you. Based on where we are in the US at this point in history, she has the complexion and the connections to allow her a political resurrection. Just look at Marian Barry, Maxine Waters, etc.
I think she's mild compared to who Obama may really want as Secretary of State. He probably wants someone even more extreme and this is just a feint.
Rice is a die-hard Obama loyalist. She was sent out there to lie because she was probably the only one not actually involved in the attack and the decisions surrounding it, and therefore they thought she could not be accused of intentionally misleading, or in a possible investigation, even of perjury. She was just parroting the line that somebody, either Obama or his advisers, or possibly Hillary, gave her.
But she won’t admit it. Like everybody else under Obama, she’s a dumb ideologue who is fanatically loyal to him personally, and she knows this will all lead directly to him. She thinks she’s the last line of defense for her lord and savior Barack.
That’s what worries me, you tell Odumba to look up, he’ll look down, the man is deranged, I think one has to tell him the opposite of what you want him to do, so he’ll do it! Rice is an incompetent, liar, whom the Republicans don’t want, so Odumba will keep pushing ‘till he makes Rice Secretary of state!
I kid you not, I had a boss just like Odumba, a narcissist, If he figured out that you didn’t like something he would have you do it ten fold, so we all caught on, and we started telling him that we didn’t want to do those things we did, sure enough, he would have us do them ten fold, it worked every time!
The only answer that comes to mind is that Hillary is involved and deeply and she has gone to ground to protect herself and her putative future (Wow, look at those critical missions to Peru and Australia that are more important than testifying before Congress). Susan Rice was the only dependable liar available to give the Obama reelection team cover.
It worked, didn't it?
Probably make her National Security Advisor, an position that doesn’t require senate confirmation,...Donilon would have to be moved somewhere else.

In Racial Rochambeau, Black beats Woman. At least it did in 2012. However, in 2016, Woman beats Black, because we already did the Black thing.
In order to beat Woman in 2016, you need Black-Woman.
But when the Obamabots start casting about for a black woman of stature in an elected position in the Democratic Party, they come up with a pretty thin bench. So, if they are going to have a Black-Woman contender in 2016, they will have to manufacture one.
That is why Susan Rice was plucked from obscurity and thrust on the national stage. That is why Obama wants her as Secretary of State. He needs a Black-Woman with the credentials to go up against Hillary in 2016, and Susan Rice was his best shot.
Obie must be pleased Rice is the issue instead if his malfeasance surrounding Amb Stevens murder. What is he covering up? His failed Arab Spring policy. Gun running in the ME Evidence of same in the embassy that took the FBI 3 weeks to investigate. Bottom line seems to be that slaughter of our people in Benghazi (while we watched) was the price that had to be paid to keep his tottering campaign afloat.
Craven depravity doesn’t adequately describe this episode. Lets get to the underlying motivations of Rice’s actions.
The Republicans are only a pretend opposition, but it works well. People overwhelmingly still pretend there are 2 parties.
‘Bammy needs Rice there in place of Hillary. If/ when somebody decides he AND Biden need impeachin’ or worse, the SOS is the next in line. Ms Hillary is a little too presidential looking and a little too hungry to keep around for much longer.
The Speaker of the House is next in line. The SOS is after him.
Exactly. After this amusing little Kabuki dance is over, Rice will be confirmed as SOS by 68-32.
Beginning to think Rice is a cut-out, but far more fascinated why Bobo is so resistant to Lurch at State.
