Domino's: Obamacare Requires 34 Million Pizza Nutrition Signs

New Obamacare regulations will force pizza chains like Domino's to post up to 34 million nutrition signs in its stores -- one for every pizza combination the company makes.

The rules require fast food and grocery stores that have more than 20 stores to require labels for each product they produce.

Jenny Fouracre-Petko, the legislative director for Domino’s, said mandated signs will cost Domino’s nearly $5,000 per store. Even worse, the cost will get passed down to the consumer, many of whom will never see the signs since “10 percent of pizza customers never enter a Domino’s store” because they use Domino’s exclusively as a delivery service.

"It's not like a Big Mac. Pizza is customizable, there are options to factor in," Fouracre-Petko said. "There are 34 million pizza combinations. We've done the math."

Erik Lieberman, counsel for the Food Marketing Institute, said grocery stores will have to do the same.

IMHO...the best way to deal wit this mess....is to comply in excruciating detail with every jot and tittle in the law and regulation. And to complain -loudly and long-to your Congresscritter when the bureaucrats are not following the rules with just as excruciating attention to detail.

We like to get our pizzas with, among other toppings: both black olives and mushrooms on one third, only black olives on one third, and only mushrooms on the other third. I hope they have the correct nutrition info sign for this, because we might resort to just having lettuce salads instead of pizza if we can’t be sure of the calories and nutritional content. (/s)

that’s the problem with the book, she could have done more with less, and so could the movie. you can get the fundamental ideas across in a shorter amount of time. often the best ways to get things said, to get an idea into someone’s mind, are done in one or two sentences, that are very focused and concise, and nails it in a way they don’t forget and exactly get the point made.

Seems VERY LOW to me ,, you have 20 to the 20th at a minimum and since you can get “double this” or “triple that” and you have at least 2 sizes ??? I’m not doing the math ,, but I’d probably set up a customer accessible computer to calculate the exact nutrition of each clients order or prospective order and to automatically print a label for each box...

I simply took one of the electrical schematic symbols for a resistor and put it inside one of those ovals that folks commonly paste on their cars ala GB or FIN or whatever their country of origin/loyalty/etc.

Actually, I'm not even sure where those oval sticker things came from .. maybe a European thing originally ?

Obamacare SEC. 4205:MENU VARIABILITY AND COMBINATION MEALS.—The Secretary shall establish by regulation standards for deter- mining and disclosing the nutrient content for standard menu items that come in different flavors, varieties, or combinations, but which are listed as a single menu item, such as soft drinks, ice cream, pizza, doughnuts, or children’s combination meals, through means determined by the Secretary, including ranges, averages, or other methods.

Bottom line, the FDA is coming up with rules so that Pizza places don't have to list 34 million calorie counts because, yes, that would be really stupid.

I don't know what the final rules are, but I found a document at the FDA listing several straightforward and common-sense approaches. If Domino's can't comply with any of these for considerably less than $5000 a store, it is run by retards and deserves to go out of business.

On a related note: if conservatism has become a movement for people too stupid and lazy to use Google (actually, I used Bing to research this) then 2012 will come to be remembered as "the year we didn't lose that badly."
