Kansas City Chiefs’ Jovan Belcher kills girlfriend, then self

Just horrific news out of Kansas City this morning.

According to multiple reports, Chiefs linebacker Jovan Belcher shot and killed his girlfriend, and then drove to the team’s facility and killed himself.

The team confirmed the incident in a statement.

“We can confirm that there was an incident at Arrowhead earlier this morning. We are cooperating with authorities in their investigation.”

The 25-year-old Belcher, who started 10 games this season, reportedly fired the first gunshots around 8 a.m., and then drove to the facility a short time later. Making matters worse, Belcher and his girlfriend had a baby less than three months ago.

Several Chiefs coaches confronted Belcher, urging him not to take his own life, police say.

Police: #Chiefs player, 25, was met by coaches in the parking lot of the practice facility and then took his own life.

Head coach Romeo Crennel and general manager Scott Pioli supposedly witnessed the suicide.

There was some speculation that team officials are pushing for the NFL to postpone Sunday’s game between the Chiefs and Panthers at Arrowhead Stadium.

The league, unfortunately, isn’t listening.

The NFL postpones games for lots of stuff. And probably will this one. Notice the first part of that para was that there was speculation team officials were asking to postpone, then it declares as fat the league isn’t listening. How can there be a fact of somebody not listening to requests that are only speculated? Just bad reporting wanting to make the league look bad. Right now the league is probably just staying out of the way of investigators, waiting until they pause to get an estimate of how long the investigation will be so they know when to postpone to.

Such acts are assertions of power. The perp asserts his power, then kills himself to avoid retribution. It's like getting the last word in an argument.

In Ephesians 6:12 St Paul describes what we battle against and it’s not flesh and blood, it’s the spiritual realm. The devil and his demons work to steal, kill, and destroy. What I have learned through going through hell in the past year is that these spirits will come upon you when you are weak ( suffering from depression for example) and they manipulate you in such a powerful way that you feel suicidal even though it’s not your feelings but the spirits or demons projecting that into you so you will kill yourself. The pain feels like it’s your own when it isn’t. When I’ve made it through, I marvel at how I could have even entertained the idea knowing I would never want to hurt my family or endanger my soul.

In Daniel 10, you see that when he prayed God sent an angel to answer his prayer and even though the Prince of Persia, a demon, tried to hold him up the angel was able to get to Daniel. You also see this evidence when Christ was praying in the wilderness the angels were sent to Him. He also defeated the demons with the Word of God. St Paul also said to pray and use the Word to defeat the evil spirits.

You pray for your friend and ask God to release angels to defeat the demons that are oppressing your friend. Even if she seems angry about it your don’t have to tell her just do it. While your praying, read scriptures that talk about Christ victory over the evil of this world.

The reason I know this works, beyond the Bible, is I have a friend who had been praying for me and through that prayer I realized what was going on and was able to pray and fight as well. Before that, I was like your friend being very angry with God and feeling abandoned by Him. He showed me through my friend that He had never left me or forsaken me. :) The same can happen for your friend, too.

Im sure the guy killed himself because he didn’t want to spend life in prison.

“They just went and did it, leaving everyone to wonder why, wracking their brains for what they’d failed to recognize.”

After much research on the topic I have come to the conclusion that every human has a ‘life-wish’ and a ‘death-wish’. Under normal circumstances the ‘life-wish’ is more powerful than the ‘death-wish’. It is believed that a chemical imbalance that can occur at any time during one’s life, causes the ‘death-wish’ to become more powerful than the ‘life-wish’.

There is still extensive, ongoing research to try to find out why it happens. It seems to happen randomly in people from all walks of life.

My God, man! Did you not see the (sarc) tag? Wasn’t it obvious I was attacking libs who want to ban football?

Yes,I know *exactly* what you were doing and I responded. The simple fact is that regardless of how much the NFL (and, perhaps, the NHL) want to preserve their sports "as is" science...*medical* science...just might make that an unwise plan.Boston University School of Medicine, for example,is conducting a research study right now with the cooperation of former NFL players (and their heirs) regarding the effect that head injuries had on these players. The preliminary report I read suggested that there's evidence of subtle...and not so subtle...effects,ADVERSE effects, having been found. My understanding is that this study is ongoing. It's hard to imagine that similar studies aren't taking place at other top medical schools both here and abroad.

Science is science. If researchers found that 20 Twinkies in a lifetime caused cancer in 90% of research subjects then, regardless of how important a part of American culture they might have been,a reasonable person would abstain from eating them. And if 50...or 20...or 5 concussions are found to have severe consequences in 90% of research subjects then one could conclude that preventing these concussions would be a very wise idea.Even if that means substantial rule changes...or worse.

Yes, true, it could be entirely organic. Like the Texas Tower sniper Charles Whitman.

Very true.Who knows? The guy could have just been a scumbag,on drugs, severely depressed and/or psychotic (which could be chemically based) or,as I noted in Post #48,he could have been brain damaged. The human brain is,in reality, just a mass of cells...just like every other organ of the body.If your liver is damaged, either through injury or a biological process, you turn yellow. If your heart is diseased you have pain,or become weak, etc. If your brain is diseased either through injury or a biological process then,in some cases at least, you can do very bad things that aren't part of your true nature.

God help us from people trying to save us from every adverse effect. Almost 100% of the power plant mechanics I know retire with severe back problems. many have had surgeries and are on a first-name basis with their chiropractor. People like you would say that it is unsafe to make electricity.

Or would you? No one cares if a blue collar worker injures himself on the job because that’s just part of the job. But, something high profile like the NFL and its players who make millions of dollars is worth pursuing as a crusade.

Everyone knows that continued helmet-to-helmet contact causes brain injuries. You don’t need to create a public relations crusade to shake down the NFL and NHL for lots of money for “studies” to know what is common sense.

Always go for the defendant with the deep pockets! That’s the new motto for this country.

No TV commercials.

This world is ruled by the spirit world in alot of ways. I believe in a “spirit of suicide” and “spirit of murder” just as much as a “spirit of fear,” etc.

I believe that the Great Restrainer has had enough and is allowing evil spirits free reign on this Earth. The good news is that the Lord is coming, and soon.

The lone positive thing I can see in all of this...is that of all the cities, Kansas City might be the best equipped to minister to the rest of the Chiefs' players, other personnel, and their families.

The Fellowship of Christian Athletes is based in Kansas City...and has a strong network of leaders who work with athletes at various levels.

Anybody who is considering giving a year-end donation may want to consider FCA...given the long-term ministry follow-up within the Chiefs' organization that will follow these violent events.

I make a conscious decision over how long I want to be ‘enraged”...and then most of the time,”let it go.”
In hindsight I have gotten so bent out of shape over stuff when I look back at it, was just a waste of energy and time.

Your friend is going through the stages of grief. She is at the anger stage; very irrational stage. I remember making it home after my dad died; mom was at the depression stage. She was throwing food away, how she wouldn’t need food anymore as she only made it for him.

People like you would say that it is unsafe to make electricity.

Nope.I'd say that perhaps there's a change in the SOP that would prevent such problems. But if such conditions *couldn't be prevented my attitude would be "well,I guess that part of the price we must pay".That attitude,of course, would have its basis in the undeniable fact that human civilization would be devastated if electricity were to disappear.

No one cares if a blue collar worker injures himself on the job because that’s just part of the job. But, something high profile like the NFL and its players who make millions of dollars is worth pursuing as a crusade. <

To me this is a purely scientific question.Of course it could be about money for some...greedy lawyers, for example. But *my* only interest is "what adverse effects,if any,are found in those who've played high school, college or pro football (or baseball, hockey, etc).

Everyone knows that continued helmet-to-helmet contact causes brain injuries. You don’t need to create a public relations crusade to shake down the NFL and NHL for lots of money for “studies” to know what is common sense.

Again,it's not about money for me.And how do you *know* that helmut-to-helmut contact causes brain injuries? And what type of injuries are you talking about? If it became widely known that even a couple of seasons of NFL...or college..play could cause lasting disability down the road do you think that might effect the number of players seeking an NFL career? And what about Cassius Clay? If his brain were turned over to medical science after his death what do you think they might find under the microscope?

I am a bit of a skeptic on a lot of supernatural claims.

That doesn’t mean I think there is no such thing.

I had a professor around 1970 just off handed mention that he had seen things in South America which were bizarre.

Around 1988 I returned and was working on a Masters. I got to know that professor fairly well and he told me of an event which happened in the 1960s. He was in Army Intelligence and was going on patrols with British Commandos in what is now Guyana. The story literally made my hair stand on end. It involved a demonic being which they all saw but did not harm them. Even their dog reacted and barked at it.

When I saw what happened at Jonestown, I basically knew it involved demonic beings, especially when I read that the Rev. Jones used to throw a Bible on the floor and stomp on it.
