Texas is a well run state mainly to the extent that government stays the heck out of it, and power is widely dispersed and limited.
It's almost impossible to get anything done in Texas government unless EVERYONE really wants it to happen.
It doesn't take many to block a good thing (like Constitutional Carry) that lots of folks want.

From the sounds of it, there are Freepers who are not on his side, either but I don’t understand why. I view him favorably and even supported him at the caucus. I know there are those who cannot forget his gaffes at the debates but I cared more about his record. Hey, what do I know, I never choose the right one at the caucus.
So you don’t like Perry, you don’t like Dewhurst, and you don’t like Straus.
You don’t like much of anyone in Government in Texas do you?
I’ll tell you this, you lose Perry, you are going to get Dewhurst, Straus or Bush. Is that what you are angling for?
Isn’t La Raza Rick liberal enough ?
Now there you go, Johnny - speaking words that are music to my ears.
We don't know who is going to throw their hat into the ring, so the only ones we know about are Bush(maybe) and Perry.
Ping me when someone declares.
I don't cotton to the idea that the office has to go to some pre-declared list of 'who is next'. That's way too GOP-E for me.
I'll vote for Kinky if there isn't a real conservative for the almost useless position of governor.
I'm much more concerned about Lt. Governor and Speaker.

You might want to learn a bit about the man before being so snarky.
His resume is impressive, his education first-rate, his politics conservative. And he served Special Ops in Afghanistan.
We need young men like him.
You are right, I don’t know TX politics but I do know politicians in general. Scum of the earth. They want Perry out and that includes their boy barry. The GOPe will oblige barry. You think grass roots will stop them? Their bully pulpit is the MSM which Perry doesn’t have.
Let’s see if Romney will endorse Perry. NOT! I wonder if Michelle Bachmann found that ‘lady in the audience who told her... (s**t)’. And that’s from his ‘presumed peers’! And the GOPe Bushes have their continual axe to grind, especially momma. For them, it not about TX but power, even though you say Perry has none.
It’s your state, not mine so all the best to TX. Perhaps they are living in the last of their best days.
The Bush boy will run for Land Commissioner and win.
Todd Staples, Ag Commissioner, will run for governor and win. I know Todd Staples and he has a political campaign group second to none and I mean that. He hasn’t lost a race and never will.
He will make a fine Governor. Even if I didn’t like him, he would still win. I helped him with my county when he was running for our state senator and I saw how he wins an election. I don’t think anyone will have a better run campaign. Add to that, he speaks well, is nice looking, has a lovely wife and family. He is a true Texan with a backbone and won’t back down on the issues.
I think this is the time for him to make his move. It’s possible he could run for Lt. Governor, but that would be a waste of time. I haven’t spoken to him so I know nothing. I just know if he runs, the others might as well hang it up now. That is how sure of his strength I am.
Besides, he looks great on a horse so it’s a done deal.
He may have been born in Florida, but he’s lived in Texas since his late teens. He went to college here (Rice, UT Law), and he’s been in business here for years.
What do you have on his abortion position?
Thanks, Marcella. That’s good to hear. I’m ready for old Rick to hang it up and ride off into the sunset, so it’s nice to know there’s a good guy ready to saddle up.
Metaphor overload.
You have any evidence for your contention that George P. is pro-abortion? He’s observant Catholic, so I doubt it.
His ‘gaffes’ - they will always find something when they want it. Yet, they couldn’t do what he has done. I, too, look at long term performance unlike the ‘instant’ generation - ‘look what he just did’.
I had Staples on my short list for Lt. Governor. If he wants Governor instead, maybe he has national aspirations, who knows?
If he runs for the position, I'll pay attention, as long as it doesn't distract me from Lt. Gov and Speaker.

I believe Kinky announced some time back that he will never again place his name on a Texas ballot.
One must live in the state five years before running for governor. Has the popular George P. lived in Austin since 2009? 2009 + 5 = 2014
Like support of the Corridor? Or support of an STD shot for schoolgirls?
About the only performance a Texas governor can turn in is:
a) Didn't screw up.
b) used what little power he/she has with access to the bully pulpit to screw up royally, and p!$$ people off.
Heck, Ma Ferguson did a tolerable job of p!$$ing people off, considering that half the Texas Rangers quit, and the other half got fired.
