Its santa Cruz island, nowhere near san clemente shown on map.
Just another bump in the road.../s
We have libs running the Country, and they have very limp wrists.
They probably rammed the CG boat to protest the caricature of mexicans in a YouTube vid or Treasure of Sierra Madre or something.
owebama will probably make sure they qualify for the DREAM act.
My sentiments exactly. From here out, every ‘’panga’’ taken over by the CG, drugs, and illegals too, should be towed a mile or so out to sea and then shot full of holes. It’s the only language these Mexican scumbags understand. Do that a couple of times and they’ll know it isn’t going to be just a routine trip to three hots and a cot provided by the US(gringo)taxpayers.
“Coasties’’ aren’t cops. The US Coast Guard is one of the five branches of our military. Doesn’t this qualify as an act of war?
If I am not mistaken, "Coasties" have a dual capacity -- a law enforcement function as well as a military function.
For this purpose, I believe a Coast Guard officer is aboard every US Navy ship that is involved in drug interdiction and he takes command in the event of a boarding of a civilian ship. This is to avoid the "act of war" issue.
Thanks for the info. The ‘’dual capacity’’ thing is certainly true— Coasties’’ were piloting landing craft onto Omaha Beach.
The only thing I can figger is they were afraid of hitting their own in the small boat. If it were me, I would have raked the drug boat with everything I had for the next 10 minutes. Ramming the small boat was deadly force on their part. I’m not interested in trials and years in prison. I’m sure Our guys could have raked the best part of the meskin boat and been 10 feet from our guys. Maybe they couldn’t, I don’t know. I wonder if there is film?
A keelhaul?
I believe Terell was his Exec officer and a chief.. The CO is only a JG
That sounds about right; the JG was very likely an academy graduate.
From the other thread:
The incident occurred as a small boat launched from the Coast Guard Cutter Halibut, based in Marina del Rey, was approaching a panga-type vessel suspected of illicit activities, said Coast Guard spokesman Adam Eggers.
Web site: http://www.uscg.mil/d11/cgchalibut/
CO of cutter may have screwed up by putting the small boat over to soon. Personally I would have kept the gun on them and came along side.
That's what we did in Vietnam. I spent a year on an 82-foot cutter there doing the same thing except for preventing arms smuggling from North Vietnam not drugs (see picture on my FR homepage). Stateside the crew was made up the same way, but in Nam the captain was an academy JG or LT, the XO also a JG (my rank) and we had a chief QM or BM on board together with a PO3 gunner's mate. The latter three of us took turns in charge of the watch (4 hrs on, 8 hrs off, at sea usually 5-7 days at a time on patrol, 2 days in port in country for refuel and resupply then back to sea).
The CG is such a small service the death of a member in the line of duty affects us all (active and former) very personally. May he rest in peace and the Lord comfort his family and shipmates.
Nah, just my old standby for dealing punishment to murderous, killing of Americans, scum........Hot Sun/Stakes/Ropes/Anthill/Honey. Hasta la vista baby!!
Since I was in the Navy and knew many coasties, I agree with you. They should still be classed with the military.
However, BHO2 has moved the Coast Guard under the aegis of Homeland Security. That means drug smuggling is not an act of war.
Dave went to your Nam link from your FR home page...Good stuff.I have seen some photos before.
I was fortunate.CGAS MIA 68-73
I know what you mean when tragedy occurs.Word travels fast. When the helo went down in St Pete 12/72 we searched our hearts out on that one, hoping.
Ever been to www.fredsplace.org
check it out.
BHO2 ???
RE Freds place
Sorry about that havent been there in a few months and it looks like fredsplace was scooped up by Military.com but still same content.
Reunions for duty stations and vessels etc
Thank you for your service. Drug smuggling aside, killing members of the military seems deadly serious.
Change procedure: shoot smugglers, sink their boat.
>>I believe killing Coasties qualifies as a Federal crime, and has nothing to do with California laws. Federal law allows for capital punishment of homocides.<<
Agreed. Let’s hope holder’s people see it the same way.
As a former Coastie the two primary missions (among 100s of others) of the USCG are Search & Rescue and Law Enforcement. They have the power to arrest. Usually, the Boatswain Mates are the cops on the boat.
