Californians buying guns at record rate
ORANGE COUNTY REGISTER ^ | 12/5/2012 | CLAUDIA KOERNER

Posted on 12/05/2012 2:04:15 PM PST by dragnet2

Californians are buying more guns than ever.

As of November, the FBI's National Instant Criminal Background Check System had run 981,798 background checks related to guns in California, beating out totals for previous years before 2012 is even over. The numbers jumped about 8 percent from last year, part of a steady increase since 2008.

This year, however, the system broke records, with 154,873 calls on Nov. 23, up about 20 percent from Black Friday last year. With the high volume of calls, officials shut down call centers briefly to allow the system to catch up, Fischer said.

Among California gun buyers, the spike was even more pronounced.

Across all levels of government, officials have made moves to regulate gun ownership, he added. While the most restrictive regulations would likely be overturned by courts under the Second Amendment's right to bear arms, Eastman said a risk of control was enough to encourage prospective gun owners to buy while they can.

Outside of political strife, economic uncertainty has also inspired people to look for more protection, he said. Violent crimes have steadily declined in recent years, according to FBI statistics, but Eastman said concerns remain that those in desperate financial straits could be a threat to safety. With talk among politicians about cutting social benefits, financial hardships could become worse for many, creating an even more volatile situation, he said. Concerns are also high about preparedness in case of disasters, such as Hurricane Sandy.

"It's like a perfect storm," he said.

Charlie Blek, president of the Orange County chapter of advocacy group the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence "The National Rifle Association has done a wonderful of demonizing President Obama," he said.

And so he lives on forever. How many heroes from centuries past can you name? Damn few, offhand. He’s one. That’s something.

I’m not either, I just pinged you for old-time’s sake.

Appreciated. Rumor has it that CA intends to start long gun registration in 2013. I really need to leave this place permanently in the rear view mirror.

You all are solely to blame for the current environment in regard to gun control in CA.

And specifically how did that occur? Are you blaming all those purchasing guns or conservatives as a whole for being outnumbered by others?

Nothing will change in CA as long as you justify your lazy cowardice.

Again, could you describe what you mean by cowardice? Are you speaking to me directly or all conservatives in CA?

This very attitude is why nothing will change positively in CA. Its everyone else’s fault. Hmm, sounds like liberal logic.

So tell me slick, are you taking the blame for having a Communist block Captain out of Chicago as President?

I noted you evaded the above question. Could you address this? Are you not to blame? Is it everyone else's fault?

That law is already on the books. It’s illegal for the mentally unbalanced to own guns.

My Marine uncles, and my Airborne Dad...

I have more. These are American heroes.

These are the people I grew up admiring and wanted to be like. Americans who were thoroughly American through and through - they lived it, loved it, bled, cried, and died for it. With all of their successes, failures, faults, and strengths, they lived their lives and did what they did because they were Americans first and foremost, and put country and people before self.

Yeah...I can name a few...these are my people, people with heart and spirit that this Country produced, and I love all of them as Americans, as brothers, and as my Countrymen.

And maybe if we all take a moment out here on FR, each day to present the individual story of people like these gentlemen, we just pick an American HERO and post his or her story...

...well, maybe then we’ll be doing a little bit more to help KEEP that legacy alive.

Youre really clueless!!! Buying guns isnt whats needed, its grassroots activism, getting involved at local/state level to influence legislation and communities. This is ‘how it happened’...youre too self absorbed to care about your neighbours and state. Outnumbered? I think not. Even stupid liberals arm themselves and can be made (eventually) to understand why ‘gun control’ is a non-starter.

Yes, Im speaking to gun owners as a whole in CA. Its not about you in particular. You didnt cause the problem on your own.

Not sure what the point of your last stmts are. I didn evade any question....what youre saying makes no sense in the context.

‘My Marine uncles, and my Airborne Dad...’

These ‘nameless’ guys, most of whom didn’t want to go but did and exemplified themselves, are at the top of my list!!! Their stories are amazing!!!

“...most of whom didn’t want to go but did ...”

And they’d have gone back if asked or required of them. Quiet heroes, who came home, lived out their lives, and loved their Country.

Today is Pearl Harbor Day.

God bless all those Americans who never came home...

33 years ago today, BUD/S Class 105 graduated, and I was among that proud group.

December 7th always meant a little bit more to us.

...when and where did I read in the news about CA gun owners taking the fight to the legislature? Oh, I didn’t.

Been there, done that. Just because the news refuses to report something doesn't mean it didn't happen.

Oh, Yes, “Gen’l George” is up there as well, but he’s a given. He’s just such a monumental figure in our history. His exploits are amazing.

I remember reading about Lewis and Clarke and the Corps of Discovery as a kid and wishing I’d been on that expedition. I loved that time period of our history. And of course, we ALL know - NOW, because we’ve been told by “experts” - that they’d have NEVER made it without Sacajawea, because they were too incompetent to figure their own way... (sarc, of course)

The westward expansion into the wilderness. Amazing... except for the evil white men treating the poor, peaceful, gentle natives so cruelly, because we’ve been told by “experts”.

Jefferson had this absolutely giant mentality of individual liberty and hostility towards anything tried to oppress “the little guy” that transcends time. He’s the embodiment of American liberty to me. But this is negated, of course, because “he owned slaves” and “may have slept with his slave woman”...because we’ve been told by “experts”

Another American that I always admired was Colonel Custer (Brevet General). A much maligned figure - of late - but when he died, it was considered by the Americans of that time as a National tragedy. He actually tried to deal fairly with the Indians’ grievances against corrupt government Indian Agency personnel who were swindling the tribes. Also chased out miners who were trespassing in the Black Hills (Sioux holy land). You don’t hear about all that, though...only that he was some arrogant dumb-ass idiot that split his command into three and managed to get himself and 280 guys wiped out...because we’ve been told by “experts” that this is so.

We’ve been treated to our own history being re-written to demonize or smear OUR heroes, our history, our accomplishments.

That’s why the ONLY way to learn history is to read the accounts of these folks from the time that they happened - not from some idiot Marxist “social studies” professor who never held a real job in his life.

And teach our children to learn it the same way.

There’s only so much you can do when you’re outnumbered by lunatic moonbats that control things at the local, city, county, and state level.

And when you call feinstein's office and the staffer says she'll put your "NO" down on the "yes" list for a particular bill. We found that breaking their fax machines was more effective than phone calls.

And to go in and educate them about an issue? Cutting through all the kool-aide that they've had is a huge job.

God bless, brother.

You are a member of an elite fraternity and a warrior for the ages. Not something that everybody can claim.

The “Green Faced Frogmen” who made Charlie sh*t his pants in ‘Nam.

For some reason, that thought always makes smile...

I hear you SCalGal...loud and clear.

This is what happens when they barbarians are LET INSIDE the gates by folks that claim to be our countrymen...

But, do what you can, where you can, and however you can.

YOU can train someone to shoot; you can take someone to the range, help them pick out a firearm, help them with technique, etc.,

You can do more than you realize and your influence extends far beyond what you may think.

We’re ALL an “Army of One” if we choose to be. And we should endeavor to choose to be, at every opportunity.

But what Everett Hale say - “I am only one, but I AM one. I can’t do everything, but I can do ONE THING, and the one thing that I can do, I will do.”

Millions of “Ones” add up to a whole lot of pissed off Americans.
