Object seen in orbit after North Korea carries out controversial rocket launch

By Jethro Mullen, CNN

December 12, 2012 -- Updated 0907 GMT (1707 HKT)

Hong Kong (CNN) -- North Korea surprised and angered the international community Wednesday by launching a long-range rocket that appeared to put a satellite in orbit, a breakthrough for the reclusive, nuclear-armed state.

The North Korean regime said the rocket had successfully blasted off from a space center on its west coast and delivered a satellite into its intended orbit. The launch followed a botched attempt in April and came just days after Pyongyang suggested its plans could be delayed.

North Korea's previous claims of successful satellite launches have been dismissed by the United States and other countries, but this time it seemed to have pulled it off.

Initial indications suggest the rocket "deployed an object that appeared to achieve orbit," the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD), the joint U.S.-Canadian aerospace agency, said in a statement.

I for one welcome EMP’s over every continent. A world without tv, radio, and mass transit for 6 months would be a blessing in disguise. After the weed out period of liberals and others not prepared we would come back stronger and smarter.

Virtually every industrial motor made these days has electronic controls. There would be no gas pumps, no food harvesting or transportation, and no refrigeration. Ports would shut down. Sewage would back up. Wells would be effectively dry... If in fact you want that kind of disease, starvation, and death for billions of decent people, families and children, worldwide... with not a care in the world for the true consequences, much less justice on an individual basis, if to you, the ends of getting rid of liberals justify the means of the largest willful slaughter in history... then you are every bit as bad as they are.

Of all the mindsets in the world I despise, yours is the worst: No respect for innocent life, shallow, vile, disgusting, and completely irresponsible. NOBODY is prepared sufficiently for what would follow.

Enjoy your stay in hell.

Sometimes people making flippant comments haven’t really thought it through or don’t actually mean it. Other times they are just evil.

I know, but a good spanking is still a conservative practice. Lacking that, they'll act on said opinion without another thought. That's how we get "good NAZIS" in this world.

There are people who really do mean to force G_d's hand, whether to bring on the Tribulation, provoke Messiah to come, the Twelfth Imam, the rise of the phoenix for a New Age, or a good ol' fashioned reset. They have a LOT of power and money at their disposal (and ours). I really don't care what it is. "Evil" hardly covers that kind of thinking.

There are literally billions of good people on this earth. Even our inner cities have their Salvation Army volunteers. G_d loves that kind of dedication. NONE of those people deserve that kind of thoughtlessness. NOBODY has the right to provoke G_d. We were taught to trust the Torah, teaching repentance first, love, forbearance, self-discipline, and preparation, offering firm instruction, not to tolerate evil on anyone because of the devices of others. Anyone calling him or herself a "conservative" knows that.

Whaa. I am fully aware of the ramifications and what won’t work. Chance favors the prepared mind. I still have a vehicle without electronic ignition. I still have my wits and ability to think outside of an iPod and tv remote.

And your solution is probably to try and talk and vote sense back into our land. Good luck. We have jumped the shark. We are two maybe three elections from the 47% becoming 50%+. Either way social decline in looming and a class war is highly likely.

The next step is no better than what you outline, total socialization of our economy, then failure and maybe UN control over part if not all our infrastructure. In that case I see the same scenario playing out with a loss of utilities, food supply, and commerce once the scales tip and the money is gone. Then comes rioting and outright decay. Under the EMP scenario at least we are on a level playing field in the world and everyone will have to worry about their own and not impact us. We would recover faster.

Any civil war scenario and the result is likely the same except we are vulnerable.

If we go into failure alone we are ripe for the picking. Other countries not as advanced as we are won’t be affected to the level you describe they are already living without modern conveniences. It is the west, Russia, and industrial Asia and the ME that will have the problems and we created them with our decadence, apathy, and stupidity. And I dare say in rural Russia, Mexico, and the east the majority of that population would not notice if the lights went out.

A reset is coming. Choose your poison. As to your claim of hurting decent people and their children, those people had a chance and they voted for what they get. They should have paid attention to their lives instead of watching tv. I have no pity and don’t really care what happens on either side of the oceans anymore. Their outright hatred of all we have done for the world has dulled my empathy.

As for me I will rectify my eternity with my Lord as I will be faithful to him and help those in need (very short term) who can find me. Hell will be my zip code if I am on this earth and living under a boot.

Detonate a nuke 250 miles above Omaha and 90% of the US population would be dead in a few months.

I'm not saying we wouldn't get our hair mussed, but I think the EMP threat is overblown. Our main evidence is the 1962 Starfish Prime nuke test, 1.5 megatons detonated 250 miles above Johnston Island about 800 miles away from Hawaii, and the electromagnetic pulse knocked out 300 streetlights in Honolulu and also set off lots of burglar alarms, and damaged a microwave link that shut down telephone service to Kauai.

Also, Starfish was an H-bomb; all North Korea has produced so far is wet-firecracker A-bombs. The first US hydrogen bomb was fueled by 82 tons of liquid deuterium in a cryogenic tank as big as a railroad car; if the Norks could put that kind of hardware into orbit, they would have put a man on the Moon by now.

Well, Resolute, may your "blessing in disguise" not occur while you're posting an important comment on the internet.

And after all your EMP's weed out the dumb folk's, may we all start using apostrophe's correctly.

"Who would die off? Dems. Dem city low-life voters. All who put Obama into office." ... Doesn't matter. The useful idiots would have served their purpose.

It would once Constitutional government is restored and most/many of the criminal element have died off.

"This is something that we have to worry about," Philip Yun, who advised former President Bill Clinton on North Korean issues, said of the launch. He noted that it had taken the United States 24 attempts to successfully launch a similar kind of vehicle.
They're 24 times smarter than we are! /s

But North Korea still has a lot work of to do "if they're actually going to mount a nuclear device or a weapon on a rocket," said Yun,
Not so much work with all the "help" they're getting.

Ouch, now you have hurt my feelings.

I guess there was also no way Obamacare would pass and then be upheld in SCOTUS either or that we would basically sit as a neutered dog while one of our consulates was overrun and Americans murdered, or an non-vetted foreigner would be elected president - twice. Yeah it can never happen here. Put down the wine cooler and breathe deeply.

Hope for the best, plan for the worst.

Guns would work. And they might be aimed at you. You go outside to dump your chamber pot and PING.
Someone will live off your preps but it may not be you.
