Rep. David Schweikert of Arizona, another of the removed Republicans, suggested he could support House Majority Leader Eric Cantor of Virginia for speaker.
Asked point-blank if he would vote for Cantor, Schweikert offered a humorous response: “It’s bad enough being removed from your committee — I’d actually like not to be chairman of janitorial supplies if I answer that.”
According to Bloomberg, any budget deal Boehner might reach with President Obama would need Cantor’s support to insulate the speaker from rebellion in the GOP ranks, but “there is no guarantee that Cantor would stick with Boehner if a negotiated deal included higher income tax rates for top earners.”
National Journal reported, “Murmurs of some sort of challenge, or other conservative demonstration, against Boehner tied to the speaker election are percolating amid rising angst over a potential cave by Boehner on taxes in fiscal cliff talks.”
And National Review reported Monday that if fiscal cliff talks are viewed as having gone “sour” for conservatives, Rep. Tom Price could consider putting his name into consideration for the speaker post.
“Price has been mentioned as a potential 2014 primary challenger to Sen. Saxby Chambliss, R-Ga., and even a quixotic challenge to Boehner’s speakership might score him more points with conservatives,” National Journal disclosed.
As for the rebellious Republicans, Rep. Justin Amash of Michigan, who was one of four members removed from his committee assignments reportedly due to his differences with the GOP party line, refused to commit to supporting Boehner and told CNN that the speaker needs to be “willing to make amends.”

While I would love to see it, I ain’t holding my breathe. I’m also not convinced Cantor would be any better.

Ronald Reagan killed the Republican Party when he made George H.W. Bush his running mate in 1980. Or perhaps when he didn’t replace George H.W. Bush in 1984 with a true conservative. Bush was a RINO globalist who stopped the conservative revolution begun by Reagan in its tracks and returned to business as usual. The Bushes, Bob Dole, John McCain, and Mitt Romney as well as John Boehner, Mitch McConnell and Eric Cantor are all part of the Washington insider GOP which stands for nothing. When you stand for nothing you have nothing to fight for.

Bawlin’ Boehner is typical of every Republican that has risen to a “leadership” position. Every single one of them sucks swampwater and could as easily be replaced by a cardboard cutout and no one would be any wiser!!
I do have to admit that Bawlin’ Boehner is an especially gifted Republican sellout, in the same category of Republican sellouts as Juan McVain!!
Frankly, I seriously doubt that there is a single GOP-E capable of actually representing conservatives. I’ve long since stopped listening to the words and replaced it with observing the actions and studying their history. All-in-all, it paints a very disappointing picture . . . . . . . but NOT of conservatism . . . . . . . . just losers!
Certainly Boehner must go, but so should Cantor and McCarthy.
Cantor is as weak-kneed as is Boehner.
Change I can believe in: Gohmert, Amash, Sweikert, Jordan, or a similar strong-willed conservative that will stand up to Pelosi/Reid/Obummer.
