North Korean Satellite 'Tumbling Out of Control,' U.S. Officials Say

The object that North Korea sent into space early Thursday appears to be “tumbling out of control” as it orbits the earth, U.S. officials told NBC News.

The officials said that it is indeed some kind of space vehicle but they still haven’t been able to determine exactly what the satellite is supposed to do.

In a statement, the White House said the rocket launch was a highly provocative act that threatens regional security and violates U.N. resolutions.

The United Nations Security Council on Thursday condemned the launch, calling it a "clear violation" of U.N. resolutions. A spokesman for U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said he "deplores" the launch.

>>>Before we gloat remember, the purpose was to just get it there.

Agreed. You do not need an orbit out of a warhead...just the ability achieve some trajectory. They got it into space...which means they can get a warhead into space.

Now all we need is for the Northern Zips to be using nuclear power systems on the satellite. An “accidental” radioactive disaster for wherever it crashes.

I think there’s one in LA...

If you factor in the speed of the satellites, and the massive distances of the x, y, z co-ordinates, the odds are miniscule.

So now we have exposed to the world America’s ability to shoot down a satellite.

I honestly don't think that was much of a question to begin with. The only real question would be exactly what our capabilities are, as in launch platform and type of munition.

I know what you mean. 0bama would authorize our space plane to jam our own reconnaissance satellites.

It wasn’t supposed to do anything but show us they could put it there.

The UN condemned it. LMAO. The N. Koreans could give a damn less what the UN condemns. We shouldn’t give a damn either.

How do they know it wasn’t planned?

How do we know what we read in the news is true?

The problem is, it could take out a “real” satellite. Also, while it’s funny on a visceral level, a tumbling out of control nuke is still a tumbling out of control nuke.
