CLACKAMAS, OR (KPTV) -

A 22-year-old man from southeast Portland parked his car outside Macy's, rushed into the Clackamas Town Center mall food court and opened fire, killing two people Tuesday, investigators said.

Jacob Roberts' AR-15 rifle then jammed, but he was able to get the gun working again. He shot and killed himself, sheriff's deputies said.

Steve Forsyth, of West Linn, and Cindy Yuille, of northeast Portland, were killed by Roberts, authorities said. A third shooting victim, Kristina Shevchenko, survived and is being treated at Oregon Health & Science University hospital.

Deputies said Roberts stole the rifle used in the shooting from someone he knew. During the shooting rampage, he wore a hockey-style facemask, a load-bearing vest and carried several fully-loaded magazines.

Investigators have since served a search warrant at Roberts' home on Southeast 84th Avenue, and on his car, a 1996 Volkswagen Jetta found in the mall parking lot, but they have not released details about what they found.

One neighbor told FOX 12 she saw Roberts leave his house quickly while carrying a guitar case around 1 p.m. Tuesday.

Dispatchers started receiving 911 calls about the shooting around 3:30 p.m. Roberts parked his car in the mall's south lot near Macy's, then went through Macy's toward the food court, deputies said.

I am sure more details will emerge as time progresses. I understand that the mall was a defenseless victim zone.

His AR-15 jammed. Didn’t the fellow who shot up the movie theater in Colorado have an AR-15 that jammed? Is this a problem with the rifle?

And God bless the poor victims of these crazy people.

Want to bet he was an Obama supporter.

Pierced ears, driving an imported car and using a stolen firearm to indiscriminately kill? Could it be any other way?

Only two things could happen, A double feed caused by one or both of the top lips of the mag have been bent. The other relates to a carbon build up inside the bolt and ring alignments.

I bought a Colt AR-15 and ammo last year. Haven’t fired it yet. I thought it was a pretty good rifle, but I don’t know much about them. Hearing about these jams is worrisome. But mine is pristine, so I should be OK?

If he didn’t have the Jetta, three people would still be alive.

If he didn’t buy Gasoline for the Jetta, three people would be alive today.

If he didn’t have the money to buy Gasoline for the Jetta, three people would be alive today.

The MSM employees said that he wore a "hockey-like face mask;" does that mean it was really one of these?

If so that means this is the same dirty tricks the skid marks on Journalism's shorts ("reporters") used when describing the 1960s and 1970s "anti-war" demonstrators' "red, blue, and yellow protest banners." Those were Viet Cong flags.

AR-15’s need lubricant and proper cleaning. Keep up with those and use good magazines (not cheap ones with crap springs) and it is a fine rifle. You should always cycle firearms magazines to keep the springs healthy, but this is especially true for the AR in my experience.

If you don’t think you can keep up with the AR you should buy a good AK variant. There is nothing wrong with them and you are better admitting that obsessive cleaning is not your thing and getting something that will work for you. What you sacrifice in accuracy you will more than make up for in reliability. They are much easier to maintain and if you forget to lube it for a day, week, or month it will still work.

Hearing about these jams is worrisome.

First thing, guns don't jam, they can have a malfunction - jam goes on toast. Second, learn to properly clean your rifle, keep the bolt and bolt carrier clean. Having said that, I have run over 500 rounds through my AR-15 rifles in competitions without a malfunction. Use good magazines and keep them clean. I have been using Magpul P mags and I think they function great. Use good ammo as well. One of my rifles has had well over 5000 rounds through it, and it still runs great. At least it did until I lost it and all of my other weapons in that tragic boating accident.

“Jacob Roberts’ AR-15 rifle....”

It seems to me that yesterday, it was reported that the rifle he used was stolen.

Yup, I got to stop doing that;)

One more thing - never fill up the mag full. Put 28 in a 30 round mag.

load-bearing vest

NO!!! A deadly load bearing vest!!! My Gosh!!! That's ALMOST a "bullet-proof vest", isn't it? Yeah!! That's what we will make it!!! The deadly bullet proof load bearing-vest!!!

Yup, he could kill a hundred people and not get killed himself with the deadly load bearing vest!!

It’s not a problem. The CO shooter did use a 100 rnd mag, which can have feeding problems, depending on the quality of manufacture. It is best to avoid using soft point bullets, however.

I noticed that too.

Just wild speculation here: Im guessing the AR was not shooting Hornady ammo, prob Walmart Tula or another Russian brand. Those are cheap (20 something are not rich) and likely steel. These are known to fail in some ARs.
