Mike Huckabee blames getting God out of classroom for shootings

Americans should blame their schools, and removal of God from the classroom, for Friday’s murders of schoolchildren in Connecticut, according to former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, a 2008 Republican presidential candidate who is now a pundit and host on Fox News.

Huckabee did not mention guns, gun culture, or assault rifles in talking about the country’s latest mass killing, but said on Fox News:

“We ask why there is violence in our schools, but we have systematically removed God from our schools. Should we be surprised that schools would become places of carnage?”

Huckabee is a Baptist minister. As governor of Arkansas, he pardoned Maurice Clemmons, the Arkansas felon who went on to gun down in 2009 four Lakewood, Wash., police officers in cold blood. Clemmons was pardoned after he asked Huckabee to show compassion, vowed that he had changed his life since “the angel of death has visited and taken away my dear, sweet mother.”

Huckabee seemed to see church-state separation as responsible for the horrors Friday at an elementary school, where 18 grammar school pupils died.

“We’ve made it (school) a place where we don’t talk about eternity, life, what responsibility means, accountability — that we’re not going to have to be accountable to the police if they catch us, but one day we stand before, you know holy God in judgment,” said Huckabee. “If we don’t believe that, then we don’t fear that.”

As others were calling for a national discussion on guns, Huckabee said it is time to look upstairs.

“Maybe we ought to let (God) in on the front end, and we wouldn’t have to call Him up when it’s all said and done at the back end,” Huckabee argued.

Correct Leto.

Instruct our children that there is no god, that ending a life is simply a right, then do not be surprised when they end a life.

Childen know that life begins at conception. No amount of bullshit will change that fact.

As I understand it, the shooter was autistic ......

***********

Asperger syndrome is one claim about him along with being totally oblivious to pain. Some articles indicate that as a child growing up they had to watch him closely because if he got hurt he didn’t know it as he felt no pain.

Apparently smart but with no or very limited social skills.

I guess the reporter has no interest in video games as being a contributor.

Boy, if this debate turns into getting God back in the schools, then those kids did not die in vain.

But I doubt that will happen.

There was a time when morals were taught in schools. How many shootings took place before 1963 when Madaline Murray got any mention of religion taken out? When the religion went, so went the morals.

I blame it on the pressure to NOT criticize Islam.

Moslem dream of killing American children 24/7.

And some fools believe they will be put in the history books by following the herd so to speak.

It doesn’t help that the faux POTUS Obama is a Moslem supporter.

This is just as stupid as blaming guns. Belief in God is no indicator as to whether or not someone will murder others.

When religion was ‘in’; guns were ‘in’. When I was in school; both G-d and guns were with us.

Look what has happened since the 1960s rulings. No Bible reading in schools. No prayer in schools. And what have we got? 53 MILLION abortion murders. Our prisons are breaking at the seams with millions and millions in our jails. Homos running wild. Teenage sex diseases on a massive scale. Teenage children having children. Massive high school drop out rates. Dumbing down of kids. Drug and alcohol abuse up by huge rates. Drugs coming in from Mexico unabated. Murders, rapes, robberies, breakin’s, old people no longer looked after, rather they are mugged in parking lots for their money and prescription drugs. Since the 1960s the United States has gone straight in the toilet. I remember well growing up in the 50s and 60s. I have watched this come about over the past 55 plus years front and center. You can blame throwing out the Bible, prayer, taking kids conduct away from parents, etc. It is ON THE GOVERNMENT AND LIBERALS. They wanted this. They got it.

How many shootings took place before 1963...

Lots. No more statistically than there are today. In fact, crime in this country is at historic lows and mass shootings have been flat for years. The only reason it seems more common is because of the 24 hour news cycle/Facebook/Twitterverse.

Having government employees teach the Bible is not an evidentiary cause of any of this.

Thou shalt not murder works for me. There are a lot of really bad things I would have done in my life if I didn’t fear God, as there are a lot of good deeds I would have passed over. If you truly believe in the true God you will keep his commandments.

Do you have statistics?

I see that there have always been school shootings. But my impression is earlier the body counts were less: one or two per incident.

It may not just be that these incidents are reported more, but that the publicity encourages higher body counts.

Yeah! Check the stats! Things are getting better all the time, like with jobs. The unemployment rates we're fed prove it. Don't ever trust what you see happening. I remember we started the day in school with a prayer and my classmates got mowed down all the time.

There are stats and lists all over the place. There’s no upward trend in school shootings, the deadliest school killing is still the 1927 Michigan school bombing, and as far as safety is concerned, a school is still one of the statistically safest places a child can be.

It's not even a close call.

http://left.wikia.com/wiki/School_Shooting_Timeline

Scroll down to 1966 at the bottom and read your way up. There are a few incidents with gaps of years until you get to the 90's and incidents increase greatly with steady occurrences.

I was making a pause to put the emphasis on God.

My point was God is apart of our fundamentals of our nation.

I agree with you. I don’t want atheist schools. Nor do I want a main religion in the schools.

I agree with Huckabee. Read The Marketing of Evil by David Kupelian. He chronicles how we got to where we are and is a real eye-opener.
