Source: CT Murderer Lived in Windowless Basement Playing Violent Video Games

Adam Lanza, the shooter who massacred 20 children and six adults last Friday at Sandy Hook Elementary School, spent hours in the windowless basement of his home playing violent video games like "Call of Duty" and obsessing over "guns and military equipment."

Peter Wlasuk, a plumber who worked at the Lanza home, told The Sun that Lanza "lived in the basement" and he found it "strange."

"He had a proper set up down there — computers, a bathroom, bed and desk and a TV," Wlasuk said. "There were no windows.”

Wlasuk said he went down to the basement on numerous occasions while doing work at Lanza's home and said Lanza also had a "huge poster with every tank ever made" and another one with "every piece of military equipment the U.S. ever made." He said the Lanza brothers could tell "you about guns they had never seen from the 40s, 50s and 60s."

Lanza was suspected of being mentally ill and may have had Asperger's. His high school assigned him to a counselor because they feared he may harm himself but not others.

According to reports, Lanza's mother was a "a gun enthusiast who owned at least five weapons" and "took her younger son to a local firing range just days before the rampage."

A family friend told NBC that Lanza's mother said she wanted to introduce Adam to guns to teach him a "sense of responsibility."

“Guns require a lot of respect and she really tried to instill that," the friend said. "And he took to it. He loved being careful with them. He made it a source of pride.”

“His mother knew he had severe emotional issues and failed to secure her weapons. She screwed up.”

Precisely.

“Lanza’s mother said she wanted to introduce Adam to guns to teach him a “sense of responsibility.”

Maybe an FR psychiatrist or psychologist can jump in, but it appears to me that the kid was at least a sociopath, and demonstrated by his actions last Friday that he was psychopathic.

And now it turns out that he was being prescribed “Fanapt, an antipsychotic”?
http://www.fanapt.com/index.jsp?irmasrc=FPTWB0013 “Fanapt ... prescribed for the treatment of schizophrenia in adults.”

In sum, his mother knew her son was psychotic but was allowing him access to firearms.

Salutations and consolations to our lurking lefty friends: In the morbid and quite possibly paranoid attempts of your `opinion leaders’ to assign blame here to `evil guns’, it looks like game, set and match to mental illness. Otherwise known as “liberalism”.

You can all now go crawl back under your rocks with the satisfaction that you actually made a indescribably horrifying matter even worse.
But that’s what you do, isn’t it, you bastards.

These idiots would have freaked out at all the toy soldiers, tank, military aircraft, and ship models I had as a kid.

Oh, and at all the playing Army in the back yards with toy guns. All the cool kids had linked belts of 7.62x51 brass worn Mexican bandito style. Did I mention I was living at an Army fort at the time?

I think Nancy Lanza was a damn fool to have guns in her house when she was living with an obviously “off” teen/20year old.

I agree. The greatest danger to our rights are fools who handle them lightly and selfishly.

I am reminded of a number of incidents: there was an idiot who recently chased a group of teens with an AK-47 because he thought they stole candy from his kids' bags while they were out trick or treating.

There was the moron who gave his 8 year old an Uzi to play with at a gun range and walked away, and the kid died because he couldn't handle the recoil.

Or the moron who decided to pull himself up into his truck's driver's seat the other day with a loaded handgun in one of his hands, and it discharged and killed his toddler.

Or the drunk who emptied a handgun into an SUV full of teenagers in a 7-11 parking lot because they were blasting their music too loud.

There is a general lack of maturity in the population that is undermining the liberty of grownups.

Nobody can explain how one can integrate a controller’s design, with so many buttons, to a gun’s design. Honestly it is his mother who taught him how to shoot, not “violent” video games(what would the supposed motive be if he had just played Tetris in his basement?) but she probably didn’t expect him to do what he decided to do so that point is moot. In the end, I really hate that this guy was smart enough to not leave a trail of breadcrumbs to mark his motives because we are blaming a bunch of phantoms without any evidence otherwise.

I think I was the first one here to post about the Fanapt report buried in one of the news stories.

It now appears that was a false report. Those news sources pulled that aspect of their stories, and there was a post on a forum that someone linked here that the man holding himself out to be “uncle Jonathan Lanza”, who gave the Fanapt report, was a scammer.

Idiot reporters should have asked for ID for someone holding himself out as a close family member.

Two things I haven't heard about. Did this kid ever have any pets to take care of? A dog or cat? Has this kid ever had any kind of responsible job? Work in a fast food place or any kind of inter-personal environment.

People who love animals (ok Hitler loved his dog, but killed her at he end) tend not to become serial killers, from what I understand. Mom had so much money in alimony it looks like the kid never had to think about learning to work to fend for himself someday. Was he allowed to isolate himself from society in his dark basement room and learn to fear-hate society at large?

the Media Mob is in full bloom.

it does not matter that it was a false report, the seriousness of the report matters. The medium is the message.

The NRA better stop hiding now.

“In sum, his mother knew her son was psychotic but was allowing him access to firearms.”

Not only that, but allowing him to stay holed up in that basement playing video games all day didn’t help. Mom was not a good mom.

no mother would want to destroy her son’s life FOREVER on the theory of something bad to others. You are asking the woman to predict and she paid the ultimate price for her mistake.

Think about it, he was in the basement playing video games not out in the real world.

>>>>Nancy Lanza should have had her son committed to a psychiatric institution.

>>Thanks to our lovely courts, you can’t do that against his will unless he has committed a crime.

And then there aren’t hardly any psychiatric institutions.

The same day that this tragedy took place 23 people were seriously injured in a knife attack in Henan province, China. Have any of you heard thing one about this through the US media? anyone? I happened to trip over the story on wikipedia whilst looking for something else. China has severe gun control, yet 23 people were injured even without guns. Didn't fit the medias or the governments agendas, so never mind, go back to reruns of "honey booboo".

My nephew’s wife has a son with similar problems that she has so far fought to be successfully treated - and it was anything but easy. But the boy - as early as when he was barely able to talk - threatened a lot of people, mentioned knives and said he was going to kill everyone. The mother hid the knives.

Seems to me if you suspect something is wrong with your kids you don’t get them involved with weapons. Adam’s mother apparently was engaging in wishful thinking.
