Boehner: 'I Did My Part'
CNS News.com ^ | December 20, 2012 | Elizabeth Harrington

Speaker of the House John Boehner (R-Ohio) said 'I did my part’ in negotiations with President Barack Obama to avert the fiscal cliff by offering a proposal to raise taxes on millionaires.

Just hours before the House plans to vote on the Speaker’s “Plan B,” which will raise the marginal tax rate for people earning $1 million or more per year to 39.6 percent, Boehner said Republicans have done “everything we can” to avoid the fiscal cliff.

The fiscal cliff refers to the expiration of the Bush tax rates and the start of automatic spending cuts (sequestration) on Jan. 2, unless Congress and the White House act. The tax issues also include the child tax deduction; the end of the 10 percent bracket; and the Alternative Minimum Tax.

“President Obama and Senate Democrats haven’t done much of anything,” Boehner said during a Capitol Hill press conference today. “Their Plan B is to slow walk us over the fiscal cliff.”

“For weeks the White House has said that if I moved on rates, that they would make substantial concessions on spending cuts and entitlement reform,” Boehner said.

“I did my part,” he said. “They’ve done nothing.”

“The president’s last offer of $1.3 trillion in new revenue [taxes] with only $850 billion worth of spending reductions fails to meet the test of ‘balanced’ that he continues to call for.”

“Frankly,” Boehner continued, “I’m convinced that the president is unwilling to stand up to his own party on the big issues that face our country. Time is running short.”

“The House will act today and it’ll be up to the Senate Democrats and the White House to act,” he said.

Grandma’s spending IS the spending problem. And take a look at the pittance paid into Medicare by a typical retiree over the years and see what sort of return would have been needed to pay for a quadruple bypass and a hip replacement.

FACT: Today’s retirees have participated in a Socialist experiment, which they have benefitted from enormously, with practically nothing paid in, at the expense of future generations who will be left with a mountain of debt.

There is no other spending problem but Medicare and SS. The Rest is bupkis.

RS:”It raises taxes. And the GOP supports it.
.......
What rational people want is to cut spending. That will NOT happen unless we go over the cliff.”

The bill protects 99.8% from a tax increase including probably EVERYONE you know.

Its YOU who are Demanding that Republicans raise all our taxes by demanding they drive over the cliff.
Here's basically what you are saying:
If one gazillionaire or Rush have to pay a dime more in taxes then gad-dumit the Republicans need to raise the (taxes) on everyone ELSE to teach them a lesson. Make them hurt, That will teach them.”

I know you are being told this on talk radio but its one of the stupidest ideas ever demanded and it only empowers the Marxists.

I didn't tell your TX congressman hero how to vote on this, I just told him to STOP LYING.
Its the OUTRIGHT lies that show how empty that argument is.

You folks are REALLY going to need a long hot shower with a strong disinfectant to wash away the stench of joining Pelosi on defeating this bill that protects us from higher taxes.

It smells a mile away,

You are an idiot. These people paid all these taxes so your kids can go to school, ever hear of property taxes?

BTW, nothing reeks of socialism more than public education, state run endoctrination, which you seem to approve.

My dad paid over $90000 in medicare taxes over the years.
You are a world class moron.
Spending problems permeate this society. How about welfare, medicaid, public union pensions etc.

Hopefully, your kids have more brains than you do.

HEY: It was always going up.

At least the Dems will get credit for it rather than the GOP voting for it

RE :”HEY: It was always going up. At least the Dems will get credit for it rather than the GOP voting for it”

HA, first you guys kill the bill claiming you are killing a tax increase bill, yet my taxes go up as a result, unlike what this bill would do

Then after taking on a strategy that ensures that Republicans get the blame for the tax increase, you claim that this actually makes Obama get the blame by voters.

Do you really believe this C**P?? Really??

Ma’am, with all due respect, YOU are the one with blinders on.

This country is going to collapse under the weight of it’s gargantuan debt and unsustainable monetary policy. Both parties are responsible for this situation. Neither of them are doing a damn thing about it. We can argue political gamesmanship all day long, but that isn’t going fix anything.

Too many here on FR are so caught up in the scripted Elephant vs. Donkey pro wrestling cage match that they fail to understand that the time has come to quit play-acting and start fixing things or we’ll have nothing left to fight over.

We need or representatives to get serious about solving these problems and the only way that will happen is if we stop letting them fiddle-fart around and MAKE them get serious.
