Is it a law the killer has to walk through the front door holding a gun in his hand?
What’s to keep the guy that delivers the milk from blowing the school up.

Not if the job goes to the TSA.

The Feds should protect the 2nd-Amendment rights of the teachers. That is all. Let locals manage school security.

Yes.

Get rid of one school administrator of any ilk or kind. I am SURE each and every public school in the US has one they can spare.

Replace with a cop/trained guard/ex-military volunteer/etc. with a gun.

I’d see that as a net gain overall.

THIS would be a change from the old saying that when seconds counts the police are minutes away.

I would also allow the teachers who wish to, to carry.

Something like this...

:-)

where do you get this number, ten billion dollars a year?

About 98,000 Public Schools. About 33,000 Private schools. At $75,000 per, including all benefits, is $9.8 billion a year.

This is why arming the teachers is a better approach.

Why can't people already employed by the school district be trained and authorized?

Hell, no, but only because I've known too many cops who were lazy doughnut-munching civil-service union slackers and a menace to themselves and everyone around them when they had a loaded gun in their hands, and who is a crisis could be counted on only to take cover and call for backup.

Besides, I don't even trust the TSA to screen my grandkids at the airport without groping their gonads. Fat chance I'd want more cretins like them wandering around public schools with a badge, a gun, and a license to commit strip searches and body-cavity probes.

No, if you really want to secure your schools, here's what you do: give your local school boards the authority to recruit a volunteer security force composed entirely of those men and women who have a lifetime of firearms and character-judgement experience and a proven willingness to put their very lives on the line in order to protect those kids.

The students' grandparents.

These polls never come out the way the lefties want, and you never hear about them again.

Maybe police buildings should be part of the same structures as schools. Or within one hundred yards of a police station. Satellite stations. Another thought is that police rotate (walk) through a school several times a day

Some really good answers here as usual. I like the rotating police one and the one using vets. I doubt any FReeper would want to see the Federal Government in control of any of it. And unfortunately, the libs and unions in control of many schools are not likely to be able to make an intelligent decision. My fear for years has been a terrorist attack on a school. Some schools have useless requirements such as signing in at the office, but just like the TSA, no one is really enforcing or watching. I felt encouraged to see the results of the poll though. To me, it means at least in this area, people are not ready to trash the second amendment. It also enforced what I thought happened in November.

The ‘security guards’ could also teach gun safety and shooting fundamentals don’tchaknow.

Bad guys know who to go for with uniformed cops. Better to have regular, every day normal people carrying concealed. They can be cops, but they should not be in uniform.

I agree about the support for 2nd amendment.

And while we’re on the subject of what happened in November, is ANYONE looking into those districts that went 100 percent for Obama?

I do not. a “armed guard” is target #1.. Once out of the way, it’s a gun free zone again.

CC teachers and staff. You never know who is going to shoot back.

I'd prefer that existing school staff be allowed to voluntarily carry.

That wouldn't cost the taxpayers anything extra.

However, since there is only one pro-2nd amendment option on the poll, I chose "yes".

Go into most any school in the country and look in thed office. I guarantee you will see at least 3 fat assed 60ish women sitting on their butts gabbing.

It would be interesting, and informative, to know what percentage of school employees, administration, teachers, staff already possess a concealed carry permit and are prohibited by law from carrying in a "GUN FREE SCHOOL ZONE"?

I believe the randomness of who is carrying would be more effective than identifying the only source of firearm protection.

This of course expects that the MSM does not publish a list of those in each school that have those permits - that's unlikely!

There are custodial workers, counselors, shop teachers, security people and coaches in many schools, aren't there?

That would cost about ten billion dollars a year--for a bunch of guys to stand around chatting with the school secretary for years on end, waiting for lightning to strike. Might as well hire Walmart greeters for half the price instead. Should they have metal detectors and X-ray machines too? Maybe just hire TSA flunkies like the airports do?

Nice whine - how about expressing a replacement solution when you cut another idea down? How much is it worth to preserve freedom from those who want to dismantle the Constitution piece-by-piece until we become like livestock to the government?
