DC CHAPTER CHRISTMAS PARTY 2012

Posted on 12/22/2012 5:09:31 PM PST by trooprally

The DC Chapter held its Christmas Party on Saturday, December 17.

The day started out with our weekly Saturday morning Support the Troop Rally in Olney. Weather was great - in the upper 40s. We had 8 FReepers and Legionnaires in attendance.

We then gathered at Lurker Bill’s for the party. This is Lurker Bill and Paula’s 3rd year hosting the Chapter’s Christmas Party. And they were ready for us. This year they were so well organized that they did not have to rush around. They were able to enjoy themselves.

We had 25 FReepers and spouses in attendance.

We also had some GREAT NEWS for the Chapter.

VictoryNY got married to Mark, a wounded warrior she met several years ago at the “old” Walter Reed. They live in north Carolina. If you cannot remember VictoryNY, she was the one always jumping up & down and loudly supporting our wounded warriors.

BELOW: In case you do not remember VictoryNY, here she is in action, here she is in Olney a few years back. SHE IS AIRBORNE!

The other GREAT news is that Cindy-True-Supporter’s son, Gavin, is getting married on December 29. Gavin survived being hit by a van about 5 years back. The doctors did not know if he would live, and if he did live, whether he would have brain damage. Gavin DID survive, graduated from college as a lieutenant in the Army and is now a Captain.

Those attending the party (25 total) today were:
American Legion Post 68: Glenn (USMC, WWII, Iwo Jima), Dave (Navy, WWII,), Halsey (USMC, Korea), Carl (Army, Vietnam), Cindy_True_Supporter (Army, Vietnam Era) and [Mrs] Trooprally (Army, Vietnam Era)

Hosts & hostess Lurker Bill and wife Paula, BufordP, credo2, Fraxinus GunsareOK, hellinahandcart, iMacMan and Wife Cindy, Kburi and wife Lurker Ethel, Mike (Cindy_True_Supporter’s husband), RonGKirby; sauropod, steve1789, stratman1969 (blog Marooned in Marin); Tolerance Sucks Rocks, Vijay, and myself, [Mr] Trooprally

NOTE: BufordP, Kburi and RonGKirby are former military and were also recognized along with the Legionnaires.

PARTY PICTURES IN NO PARTICULAR ORDER:

THE DC CHAPTER WISHES EVERYONE A MERRY CHRISTMAS , HAPPY HOLIDAYS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

Your attendance must have been before [Mrs] T and I joined FR but I am sure the “old timers” remember.

I have always enjoy listening to the DC Chapter’s events of our early days.

If you could make it next year that would be a great Christmas gift for the DC Chapter. We always enjoy your company.

I’m glad to see there is still a DC Chapter. It seems to be the last of a time and apathy ravaged phenomena that has died.

The concept of doing something, actually doing something on an organized basis, has gradually crept away into the abyss of time.

Better it is now to merely bitch and moan in the darkness than to light a candle and make some of the darkness fade away

Thanks for the kudos from the DC Chapter.

The party is one of the few times we get together. And you can’t beat the atmosphere - no moonbats around.

Absolutely a great time.

This past Saturday, Dec. 22 was a tough one. Wind was blowing so hard that we put up minimal flags and no banners. Several times the wind had me rocking back on my heels. The lone moonbat did not even last for 20 minutes.

Thanks for the after action report!

Hope we can rally patriots this spring in DC, and get to see all of you again.

I dunno, April 19th sounds like it would be a good day............

Your faithfulness, and Mrs. TR’s faithfulness to our troops will never be forgotten.

Merry Christmas to you and your family.

The wind was strong, wasn’t it? The type that took your breath away. The lone moonbat probably feared a house dropping on his/her head. LOL! (my youngest and I watched the Wizard of Oz last night so all the images are fresh in my brain).

You are welcome and thanks for the personal kudos. Could not have done it by ourselves though. Lots of FReepers, including yourself have stood on the same corners. There was one Friday Christmas Day where Kburi and I went to Walter Reed to keep our continuous Friday Nite support of our troops going.

What is special about April 19th? CPAC is in February and the WH Correspondence Dinner FReep and Recruiter Appreciation Day are in May.

Tr, April 19th is Patriot’s Day-—it is the anniversary of Lexington and Concord, 1775. spring in DC is a good time to demonstrate.

I never had the opportunity to stand at Walter Reed or Olney with you, but did stand with the DC Chapter at the White House a couple of times in 1999 and 2000.

These days are more bleak than those days by far.

My bad about WR and Olney. I know you came to a FR event, Christmas Party or summer outing but we have met. And you were supporting the DC Chapter in its early days.

Thanks for the info on Patriot’s Day. Being a work day I doubt if I can get away but let me know if you make it down here.

Yes we did have a great time. Since Walter Reed moved to Bethesda and the DC Chapter members working for conservative politicians over the last year, we do not get together as much as before.

You have a Happy New Year.

Hey Troop! I know I’ve been MIA for a long time. Catching a minute to wish you a blessed New Year. Sure do miss seeing the gang who stood so gallantly through the years at WRAMC. May the Lord bless you one and all through the coming year.

"Thanks and looking forward to your comment."

The comment I reserved until after the holiday is reinforced a bit by bert in #23.

I was thinking about our job and our future when I looked through your Christmas party photos. They look like our local photos and the pictures from gatherings of our property rights group in that all I ever see is old folks.

I am troubled that the generation that will have to deal with this mess and live in the oppressed and depressed country we are leaving them doesn't understand, or care much about what is happening to them. I have promised myself and others that I would commit myself to try to find a way to take this issue to younger people and find a way to get them involved in repairing this country. I am looking for connections where I can begin implement the marketing or PR outline I have been working on for over a year. I have extensive outlines of ways to begin influencing younger folks. I think we need to involve young adults in greater numbers and also to implant values in the children in much the way liberals have taught them about global warming and diversity.

Rather than bore you with rambling details I'm being concise in what I've been working on. But, suffice it to say I welcome any connections or inroads you might be able to offer for communicating with party leaders or media types.

I am presently not active in any activist activities...... how’s that for an active sentence? (until this post)

About two congressional elections ago, I wanted to drum up some folks for a Freep on antiwar types planning a demonstration at a local defense plant. I contacted the Young Republican officers at the university and they invited me to their dinner meeting. I made a brief presentation including an invite to join us at Free Republic, to enter the discussion and to provide young people’s views. .

A young man and group past president told me and the group “we don’t do things like that.” That ended the effort.

I would think though that college Young Republicans might be at least one national group that not only might be receptive to your thoughts and ideas but has national communications capability to reach members all across the country. It is certainly worth a shot.

Did you miss the first set of pictures of VictoryNY?

VictoryNY has been with the DC Chapter since she was 20, along with plenty of other young people. At Walter Reed we had great support from the College Republicans and the Leadership Institute.

And have you been to CPAC? There are plenty of young people there.

Bottom line, the youngsters are out there but may not be into street rallies.

Heck, even Patriot Guard Riders who shield mourners from Fred Phelps protests do not attend street rallies. PGR had to change their bylaws just to escort the trucks that bring Christmas wreaths to the national war cemeteries.

So do not fear, I know a lot of conservative youngsters.
