Pizzu Hut - No checks policy (along with many others)
ChaCha.com ^

To the question "Can you use a check ordering from Pizza Hut online?" We have this answer:

You can only used a credit card or a Pizza Hut gift card to purchase online, no checks accepted.

And, driving up to their window in South Central Texas, the same sign is posted. No checks accepted as of January 1.

Wonder how many other establishments are going to do the same? I thought the economy was recovering....

Post here establishments that have recently changed their check acceptance policy. Local Pizza Hut just did effective Jan. 1. I don't use checks for that, but thought it was interesting.

I haven’t used a check in over 10 years.

I get suspicious when I see one at the grocery store.

A lot of folks are old fashioned, but many use checks because they don’t have money in the bank right when they want something.

It could be that the market for Pizzu is not what it once was.

Other than that, the only people who write checks are old ladies who hold up the line and make life a pain for other customers and merchants.

I thought the economy was recovering.... [checks no longer accepted]

I just looked in my checkbook. The only checks I see that I'm writing are to my landlord, with the occasional check to people who won't accept cash or where I absolutely need an audit trail. (I'm not in business for myself, so I don't have to worry about tax audits.)

Instead, my e-mail is littered with "receipts" for most payments like utilities and services paid via on-line checks; my bank account has records for the bill paying services I use there.

Maybe that's why the address printed on the check I do use is now two locations out of date. :)

If I was a retailer, I wouldn’t accept checks either. Sorry folks, times change.

We use Checks and 99% of the time those are electronically cleared at the register.

Why would one be “suspicious” at the Grocery Store because of a check?

We have no Credit Cards and our Debit Card was skimmed - no problem with that with Checking/Cash so far.

Many places run check as you would a Debit Card. No Dough no purchase.

Online stores like Amazon and Barnes & Noble haven’t accepted checks for years. It’s aggravating, if you want to give your credit card a rest, not to be able to print out your order and mail it in with a check.

They don’t want to get hit with bounced check fees for relatively small dollar amount sales and then have to waste additional time dealing with the issue. I totally understand it.

I wonder if no checks includes no debit cards. That’s about all I use these days, but I don’t eat in restaurants very often.

On the rare occasions that I order pizza I always use cash. It’s never even occurred to me to use a check.

But I would never use a credit card for something as trivial as pizza.

“but many use checks because they don’t have money in the bank right when they want something.”

Not a good practice anymore. Most of the large retailers will electronically scan the check and process it within hours after receiving it for payment.

I think Walmart has the money within 30 minutes.

I understand why a business would do this, but I'm kind of surprised that major retail chains would have this kind of policy. With all of the problems I've seen with credit card fraud and identity theft, I've actually taken a major step backwards and use my credit cards less than I did a few years ago. In particular, I've pretty much stopped making online credit card purchases entirely.

Amazon takes electronic checks. I just gave ‘em about $75.00.

PIzzaHut franchises are said to earn about 5% of gross sales.
Of course, each store’s experience varies, and that 5% is (like many franchise profit claims) likely on the high side.

If one pizza is sold for one bad check, it takes 20 more sales to earn back just that one loss. And, those 20 sales then don’t earn a penny towards the profits they were expected to provide the firm.

Many merchants have been tapering down on their check acceptance policies during this Obama “Great Recession”

suggestion: just bring a few dollars with you next time?

Pizza Hut—Aren’t they the ones that use fake cheese and meat?

“I think Walmart has the money within 30 minutes.”

Using a Check @ Walmart is processed on the spot before the receipt is printed. At the bottom there is a transaction # which is the “electronic release of funds”.

One does have to sign a “if the Check is returned” a “fee” will be charged” - however that is (according to our Walmart Manager) merely a legal hook just in case a check was Approved via Bank Error.

>>Why would one be “suspicious” at the Grocery Store because of a check?<<

b/c I wonder if the check is good then why not use a DR card?

>>We have no Credit Cards and our Debit Card was skimmed - no problem with that with Checking/Cash so far.<<

The days of not having some sort of plastic are all but over. The manual process of handling a check is a massive hassle that adds little value to the retailer.

Your DR card was hacked? You are supposed to be insured. No reason to stop using one.

I know “A Christmas Carol” is super popular these days, but we really are past the technology of Scrooge and Marley...

Only time I write a check is to one local utility every month that still charges $5 “convenience fee” for using a debit/credit card. Other than that I haven’t written a check in probably 10+ years.
