We are prepping in a non militant fashion, but have friends who are not only stock piling, but arming themselves to the teeth.

The likely truth is that if we do not clean out congress somehow and take control of the senate our society will be split into two factions; one looking to take what they need and one working to defend what they have.

Best preparation : learn and master one or more viable skills ( ie: plumber , electrician , mechanic , etc. ) , and prepare to enter the world of bartering .

Learn to grow your own food with gardening skills , especially non-hybrid seeds .
Be willing to adjust , adapt , overcome , and survive.

If you want to see what the Russians and the third world thinks is important , view ‘live journal’ out of Russia , where there are as many pictures of food as there are of people.

These “preppers” should ALL be arrested , their food stockpiles distributed to the homeless, their guns conficated [sic]. Start with the people on the survivalist blogs.”

Sound like someone got an internet butthurt.

I wish I could get some of my closer family members to understand this. Everyone is written off as a nutjob until it actually happens.

We have been preparing for this as soon as Obama and his communist friends took over the country..So we have been stocking everything..My husband is a retired military and also a man of all trades he can fix anything..along with Bartering with our neighbors we will be good for a few years..We live in the best state in the union..Texas..people here are very friendly but like the old saying goes “Don’t Mess With Texas”

The Freeloaders live in the bigger cities..When the government checks stop coming they will start robbing and killing so that is when all of us will be under attack..

I think it was Kartographer who said : “ If you can’t protect it , you don’t own it “.

In the forthcomming days of America becomming an “Obamananna Republic” , you will need to protect your posessions .
How are you going to do that ? ..with a slingshot ?
Prepare now ...

Many preppers are preparing for an economic collapse and the subsequent social collapse that will be close behind.

No matter what causes the disaster, a financial collapse will ensue.

Money systems end all the time. The end of this one is long overdue.

Without government interference, people bounce back remarkably fast. Compare Berlin 1945 - Detroit 1945 and Berlin 2012 - Detroit 2012.

The end of money is bad - but the descriptions of the horrors that follow are overstated.

Be prepared is good advice.

A similar experience occurred after Hurricane Katrina struck the East Coast in October.

Our Constitution garentees [sic] us the right to bear arms, but not to stockpile an arsenal.

Ya see...now I've read the thing more than a few times. I just can't find that kind of language in there at all. I'd like to be directed to the article or amendment that states anything about an arsenal.

I have obtained the necessary food, water, medical supplies, ammo and tools and am now purchasing gold and silver coins. There is a different strategy for return on investment than preparing for a financial and economic collapse when paper currency will be useless. For instance, a 1 oz gold coin has a smaller premium than a fractional, but in a collapse it would be like carry around a $1000 bill. It appears that silver bullion coins are more liquid in such a scenario.

Look what is happening right before your eyes and take heed. There’s a Great Storm coming you can feel it.
Listen to what the bible says: A prudent man sees danger and takes refuge, but the simple keep going and suffer for it. NIV Proverbs 22:3

This is a quote from the article:”If you don’t think this is realistic, then you aren’t paying attention to the world around you.”

One of the things that will hurt is the fact that many will not except that a breakdown is occurring even as they watch it happening before their eyes. Why don’t they realize it?It’s caused by a condition called ‘Normalcy Bias’ a mental state people enter when facing a disaster.

It causes people to underestimate both the possibility of a disaster occurring and its possible effects. This often results in situations where people fail to adequately prepare for a disaster, and on a larger scale, the failure of governments to include the populace in its disaster preparations. The assumption that is made in the case of the normalcy bias is that since a disaster never has occurred then it never will occur. It also results in the inability of people to cope with a disaster once it occurs. People with a normalcy bias have difficulties reacting to something they have not experienced before. People also tend to interpret warnings in the most optimistic way possible, seizing on any ambiguities to infer a less serious situation.

A good article on ‘Normalcy Bias’ is on our own ChocChipCookies Blog The Survival Mom:

http://thesurvivalmom.com/2010/12/29/normalcy-bias/

You either prepare and stand on your own beholden to no one or you become dependent on others to provide your basic needs and become their ‘serf’. Me I don’t want to be beholden to anyone for providing what is needed for me and mine. I certainly don’t want to have to kiss some ‘gubberment’ third class bureaucratic to try and coax some help from them, I don’t want some ‘jack booted’ thug herding me in line and telling me where to stand, sit, eat or sleep. And last but not least I don’t want to be shut up in with a bunch of ‘zombies’ and have to worry about not only trying to get basic necessities but having to fight to keep what I manage to get.

Its your choice you can prep or you can stand around on a bridge waiting for FEMA to bring you a bottle of water, a MRE, a warm blanket and a kiss for your boo-boo and maybe you can even get your picture as you stand there on the national news.

For those who are just starting or are old hands at prepping you may find my Preparedness Manual helpful. You can download it at:

http://tomeaker.com/kart/Preparedness1j.pdf NOTE! THIS IS A FREE DOWNLOAD. I DO NOT MAKE ONE CENT OFF MY PREPAREDNESS MANUAL!

For those of you who haven’t started already it’s time to prepare almost past time maybe. You needed to be stocking up on food guns, ammo, basic household supplies like soap, papergoods, cleaning supplies, good sturdy clothes including extra socks, underwear and extra shoes and boots, a extra couple changes of oil and filters for your car, tools, things you buy everyday start buying two and put one up.

As the LDS say “When the emergency is upon us the time for preparedness has past.”

Again I like to recomend FReeper’s ChocoChipCookie Blog The Survival Mom (Please Blog Police let this one slide!) Where you can get lots of useful information like:

http://thesurvivalmom.com/2011/11/20/8-morale-boosters-for-any-worst-case-scenario/

http://thesurvivalmom.com/2010/02/02/survival-priorities-the-rule-of-three/

And More

Also there is Ferfal’s Blog a survivor of Argentina’s first collapse:

http://ferfal.blogspot.com/

And there is Selco’s Blog a Bosnian War survivor at:

http://shtfschool.com/

“There is no greater disaster than to underestimate danger. Underestimation can be fatal.”

The good news is that when the dust finally settles, the vast majority of these unprepared bed wetters and re-distribution control freaks will kill each other off in search of the very things Preppers have worked at to remain self reliant and the vast majority of Preppers will survive and even thrive long after the mob has died out.

Poor Daisy

She forgot the first rule of prepping - S T F U.

Having forgotten this rule, or perhaps, trying to make a buck or three on her 'prepness', she became a target.

My FIL, who lived in Utah, never bothered to do more than put up the output of his garden that wasn't consumed right away.

I asked why he didn't have more put away and his answer was both accurate and frightful.

While in the Philippines during WWII and later, in Occupied Japan he observed at what the neighbors didn't steal, the Gov't took as "Taxes".

I really get a laugh from folks with massive amounts of food, fuel and so on. Do they really think that The Man won't be there to collect, with the rest of the ants not far behind?

Robert Heinlein once famously said
Never own more than you can carry in both hands at a dead run.” Given that RAH 'invented' survivalist fiction, he should know of what he speaks.

You see, if your survival depends on killing others than the world in which you will exist will not be worthy of keeping

If our ancestors had that attitude, none of us would be here.

In Detroit, the police department warned people to enter the city at their own risk as budget cuts result in fewer police and shorter hours of operation.

I'm pretty sure from reading the full text that was put out by the police union, not the police department.
