NRA Chief Under Fire After Pointing to Israel as Model on Guns
Arutz Sheva ^ | 26/12/12 | Rachel Hirshfeld

Executive Vice President of the National Rifle Association (NRA) Wayne LaPierre has come under fire for using the state of Israel as an example of how to avert school shootings, saying the country should be emulated in its policies of having armed guards in every school.

LaPierre has been speaking publicly in an attempt to deflect blame away from gun control following the Newtown school massacre, which resulted in the death of 20 young children and seven adults.

“Israel had a whole lot of school shootings, until they did one thing. They said we’re going to stop it and they put armed security in every school and they have not had a problem since then,” LaPierre said on NBC’s “Meet the Press.”

Yigal Palmor, spokesman for the Israeli Foreign Ministry, told the New York Daily News that the situation in Israel was “fundamentally different” from that in the United States.

“We didn’t have a series of school shootings, and they had nothing to do with the issue at hand in the United States. We had to deal with terrorism,” Palmor told the newspaper.

“What removed the danger was not the armed guards but an overall anti-terror policy and anti-terror operations which brought street terrorism down to nearly zero over a number of years,” he said. “It would be better not to drag Israel into what is an internal American discussion,” he added.

“There is no comparison between maniacs with psychological problems opening fire at random to kill innocent people and trained terrorists trying to murder Israeli children,” Reuven Berko, a retired Israeli Army colonel and senior police officer, told the Daily News.

Yigal Palmor, spokesman for the Israeli Foreign Ministry,

...would likely be a New York Democrat if living in the U.S.

The acts they engaged in were identical to the terrorists shooting school children in the schools regardless of the motivation. Are you REALLY gonna argue that knowing they may be confronted and possibly confounded by armed security would have no affect on an actor’s decision about his target?

The definition of domestic terrorism is broad enough to be included in many different venues. Domestic Terrorist was expanded by the Patriot Act:

A person engages in domestic terrorism if they do an act ""dangerous to human life"" that is a violation of the criminal laws of a state or the United States, if the act appears to be intended to: (i) intimidate or coerce a civilian population; (ii) influence the policy of a government by intimidation or coercion; or (iii) to affect the conduct of a government by mass destruction, assassination or kidnapping. Additionally, the acts have to occur primarily within the territorial jurisdiction of the United States and if they do not, may be regarded as international terrorism.

We had to deal with terrorism,” Palmor told the newspaper.

But Holder says white males ARE terrorists.

It just occurred to me that there are two problems here.

1. government schools, with their silly rules.

2. armed cops in schools creates another level of govenment oversight, of which we already have too many.

The problems can be solved with school choice, in which one of the choices is the schools’ weapons policy. If you don’t want weapons in your kiddies’ schools, choose one that bans weapons, but shut your face if there is a massacre. If you think your kids will be safer with the presence of weapons, choose schools that permit weapons, but don’t cry if there is an accident, and if your kids are armed, you have a responsibility to see to it that they get fireams safety and use training, which could be part of the school curriculum, like drivers ed.

>>The definition of terrorism is the use of violence by non-state actors largely against civilian targets in order to effect political change or a sociopolitical outcome desirable to those perpetrating the terror.

Requiring a terrorist to be a member of a known terrorist group is just weasel-speak that allows the government to call terrorists something else (the LAX shooter, the DC snipers, the Ft Hood shooter) so they don’t have to admit that the US is at war on the domestic front.

A lone-wolf mass killer is a “non-state actor”; the victims are “civilians”; killing people to achieve fame is a “sociopolitical outcome” even if it is more socio- than -political; and their “desirable outcome” is dead people, outrage, fear, and in most cases, their own death.

Well, you see, there is a big difference between killing innocent people and killing Israeli children. The former is heinous, the latter good, clean fun./sarc

Some [five?] young Israeli lads jumping up and down and cheering on a New York City rooftop, as they were also filming the destruction of the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001, gave us some indication of Israel's recognition that the United States does have a terrorism problem.

Including the diplomatic upheaval surrounding all the bureaucratic finessing of getting those men back to Israel.

Not to mention, everything else happening on Sept. 11th.

Now to the other matter.

We have the right to defend our selves, our communities, our counties, our states, and our country, and we do not have to apply for permission to be prepared to do any of it.

Yet, we do have to apply for permission to exercise martial power - meaning, when mustered formerly into a community or a county or the state militia, we cannot use the military power of the assembled compliment of men *without* the lawful authority of the community, or county, or state giving the OK.

We *know* that, the authority to apply military force comes from our lawful representatives in the community government, and/or in the county government, and/or in the state government. As we expect the lawful authority to apply military force regarding our national defense, to properly be exercised by the Congress.

So, contrary to the incorrect impressions sold/told by the news media, the tens of millions of able-bodied men and women who keep and bear Arms in our country, are, by the principles of militia law in addition to the existing militia laws of each state, bound to military disclipine.

It is the largest group of freedom fighters in the world, and the world is most fortunate.

These men and women have not attacked anybody.

These men and women have not launched any missiles at Israel.

These men and women have not shot up any schoolhouse.

These men and women have not shot up any shopping mall.

These men and women keep and bear Arms as they properly should - they discuss training, they teach the proper keeping, bearing, maintenance, and storage. They do a lot of that without ever being called to the muster, and they do it at their expense, despite the fact that the practice of the muster has been neglected for some time.

That's correct, despite the formality of the muster gathering some dust, the people - many tens of millions - still hold themselves to the duty of being responsible citizens, for their individual, and our, defense.

I can assure you, Israel, that we are the last defense that you have in depth, on this earth, save the grace of the Almighty whom, we pray, will continue to allow us the means of defending ourselves against evil, pirates, terrorists, and police states.

Despite decades of leftists, liberals, progressives - the nationalizing socialists - constantly attempting to destroy our defense *and your defense* thru repeated attacks not only upon our Second Amendment, but upon our First Amendment ... which attacks have been aiding and abetting evil, pirates, terrorists, absolutists and others who arrogantly demand that we, and you, submit to police states.

Our presence of Arms and mind and willingness to be prepared to fight for liberty, is what carried the moment of hundreds of thousands of moments, as we slugged it out against the last national socialist police state that used the power of government to belittle people to the point of grinding millions into the dust.

We would like for people to not have to go thru that again.

We know our responsibility to your and our safety, and we will not easily be moved away from our duty to protect each other *and you.*

You may visit any of the many battelfield cemetaries around the world, where there are plenty of markers where our men and women rest, evidence of how serious we are about resisting police states.

You'd be right, if you said, "... but your government arranged for ..." yes, true, we organized to fight against police states, but our preparation on a personal level, you badly, incorrectly, and unjustly underestimate.

- Freedom Fighter

Well, he's right about school shootings. However Wayne must know that Israel has highly restrictive gun laws, Obama would adopt them in a heartbeat, and should have the common sense to leave Israel out of the conversation.

They were in fact arrested, but the cheering may be a myth. Strangely enough, I was acquainted with an Israeli who once worked as a mover in the area.

So the Beltway shooters weren’t terrorists, because they were black. The Newton shooter was, because he was white. But was he a trained terrorist? Well, then, they don’t need an armed guard./sarc

At this point Wayne LaPierre would "come under fire" for noting that the sky is blue or that the grass is green. The left have their agenda set, their talking points down and it's full throttle towards gun control and confiscation. If you think that they're not going to make a play for the semi-auto guns you already own then your smoking something really really good.

Glad I got rid of all of my firearms years ago. Sold them on the private market don't ya know.

I take one thing back. I cannot asure Israel, and I can only hope to, and pray that, we can, if not prevented by the nationalizing socialists and their considerable efforts to create a new police state.

Thanks. I read most of it, quickly. The central issue of that website, is, "Did the five young men set up to film before the attack?"

The issue of "laughing" is supported by the witness, but of course, not by the lawyer for the five.

MILLER: (VO) Steve Gordon was the attorney for the five Israeli detainees.

...

Mr. GORDON: They were not horsing around.

...

"MILLER: (VO) Sources tell 20/20 the FBI developed film from a camera taken from the Israelis, and that it shows the three on top of the white van were smiling and appeared to be clowning around. The five Israelis were held at this federal jail for allegedly overstaying their visas."
