This is NOT the way Obama wanted the fiscal-cliff dispute to end. Stalemates on critical issues do not enhance presidential legacies.
Obama came rushing back from his vacation to save the day...but he didn’t.
The problem was that Obama misunderestimated the Republican House members. He knew he could get John Boehner to cave on taxes, which he did by proposing his Plan B, but the majority of House Republicans rejected it.
Now John Boehner can go before the country on Sunday and promise that the House will begin the new year by voting to reinstate the tax increases that President Incompetent allowed to go over the cliff.
You nailed it. It’s a trite joke that you can tell “x” is lying because his lips are moving. With Obama, you can discern the truth as the opposite of his shameless pronouncements, as the posted quote illustrates.
The American people are not watching closely what “we” do here (I’d be shocked if twenty percent could explain it at a sixth grade level). The “American people” have rarely missed a chance to politically self-inflict wounds to the economy (starting with T. Roosevelt and with increasing fury since Lyndon Johnson).
Politicians have always lied tactically. I think Obama gets off by getting away with this and literally laughing in the public’s face.
