Driving to a casino at 11:45 p.m.? Huh?
The dog is hit and killed. The first woman is hit and killed. And, the other woman believes she has a spitting chance to get to someone or the dog and the drivers will stop for her?
Do values come into play here? Values like a dog is not as important as a person? Values like you don't run across a crowded highway? Values like what the hell are you doing driving to a casino to gamble at 11:45 p.m.? Oh my God. This nation is in REAL trouble with occupants like that. I am beginning to believe there is no hope and certainly no change.
Assuming they were going to a casino to stay for several hours, what were they planning to do with the dog other than leave the poor creature locked in a car?
I doubt I would have been able to stop myself from doing the same thing for one of my dogs.
takes 3 posts to not blame the victims
rescuing a screaming pet, and then rescuing another human being struck on a highway, is a natural rerflex in many of us
God Bless them all
My pity is reserved for the poor motorists who’ll have to live with the memory of hitting Stupid/Stupider/Stupidest.
picking someone up who was too drunk to drive home maybe?
Thank you.
I’ve seen people swerve into other vehicles (occupied by humans) to avoid hitting a bird in the roadway.

I know that road well on the way to the Chumash casino. i feel SO sorry for that dog.
This is CA where the unexpected is the norm.
Post of the Morning Award!
The Daily Mail [UK] already has this story and with more detail than the local paper. There is at least one hit and run involved as well.
Not that it matters greatly, but this was not much of a highway - one lane each way and in bad condition. I wonder if they had a few drinks or something. It just doesn’t look all that hard to navigate those lanes except there is no place to pull completely off the road - assuming the photo is of the exact spot it happened. - Photo and details here: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2254457/Two-women-tragically-killed-trying-rescue-dog-highway.html?ito=feeds-newsxml
What is an appropriate time to go to a casino?
Goofing on people who died sure makes you the stock that you bemoan is missing from too many.
Yeah, this is the evidence we have been waiting for that society is in trouble.
People made the wrong snap decisions. They paid dearly. Now let’s turn it into something dark and deep.

I damn near plowed into the back of a Subaru in Minneapolis last year because they stopped in the middle of 394 to let a DUCK walk across. If I am going down the highway and a dog, a duck or a brontasaurus are in the way they will get plowed over before I risk injuring another human being.
They could have been going to the casino for lunch.

Reflexes...
Years ago one of the guys who worked at the Circle K around the corner from our house was hit and killed on the freeway. He drove an older Firebird and while driving down the freeway the sun roof blew off and he actually pulled over and went onto the road to retrieve it and was hit and killed.
Guess it could’ve been a safety thing to him, remove the debris, but I probably would have left it and called the police to retrieve it.
Odds are some imperiled animal will be the death of me.
Oh well.
Yep, shoulda had a nice meal at the Cold Springs Tavern then go home instead.
