Taxpayers footed the bill for a $465 million loan to troubled electric carmaker Tesla as part of President Barack Obama’s “green energy” stimulus. But Tesla’s CEO Elon Musk is now riding high with the purchase of his new $17 million mansion.

Mr. Musk’s 20,248-square-foot hilltop mansion boasts breathtaking views, a two-story library with rolling ladder, a home theater, and a five-car garage to house his taxpayer-subsidized, pricey Tesla vehicles.

“The fact is though, that the probability of rolling doubles in craps is one in six.”

That statement is not a guarantee that doubles will come up every time.

“The fact is though,”
That is a statement of guarantee.
Might want to sharpen your tool pal.

"That is a statement of guarantee."

Nope. Time for a logic or English class - I'm not exactly sure where your comprehension falls short.

You said "The fact is". YOU need to be more precise in your use of language. Either it's a "fact" or it isn't. And you clearly stated "The fact is". Say what you mean and mean what you say.

fact:

NOUN

1. something known to be true: something that can be shown to be true, to exist, or to have happened

Btw, Edisons electric car was a hot item in 1912. This is 2012.

Oh, I do. And you have certainly grasped the meaning of “fact”. However, when I say: “The fact is that event X has probability Y of happening.” that is stating that the probability Y is certain - not the event X.

I hope this (finally) clears this up for you. Happy New Year!

Your usage of language is imprecise. On FR we have only words on a screen to convey meaning. Teslas success is not a fact. Again, Edisons electric car was a hot item in 1912. This is 2012. That's regression and progressives love it. Windmills too. Both abandoned for true progress.

Happy New Year.

When you use teh term “The Fact IS” you are makign a statement of guarantee.
You are asserting that the following is unequivocally true.
And it is a fact that electric cars will not be profitable.
One reason: The cost of generating electricity is too high.
Another: Energy density in batteries versus charging time.
It takes less time to fill a fuel tank than it does to charge a battery.
Plus, I’ve never known a car to brick itself irreparably when it runs out of gas.
A Tesla?
Forty thousand dollars and you might have a usable vehicle again, but your warranty won’t cover it.

But hey, keep lying and being dishonest as well as insulting.
THAT always works to sway people.
By the by, you entered this thread with insults pal.
Better sharpen your tool some more.

He also claims he never said post 34.
He’s a liar, a poor one at that, and has zero credibility.
Especially when he smears capitalism in his one certain post.
[Quick PL, try to get those posts removed so you’ll look like a good guy!]

“The fact is, though, that Tesla may very well eventually be profitable. “ -post 34 claiming “Fact” in future profitability.

“I absolutely did not say that. “ -Post 399 where he claims he never said post 34.

Either he’s a liar, or has multiple people posting from the same handle?

Along with a ton of other companies...that is called "smart business".

No, it's called corporate welfare, and a lack of good citizenship. And it's no better than if I went down to some government office and signed up to receive food stamps. It doesn't matter that 47 percent of the people in this country do it, it's still robbery using the coercive force of government to appropriate the property of those who earned it.

Well as for the couple of you who can’t fathom simple logic and/or English, I will leave this thread with another “Happy New Year”. Good luck in your future endeavors.

So what percentage of American companies do you suppose take advantage of some kind of deduction, tax break or other government incentive, exactly?

Virtually every one of them will do everything it legally can to maximize profits. That's called "capitalism".

“That’s called “capitalism”.”

No it is not.
You continually prove that you know nothing of capitalism.
Nor do you understand English.
You said “The FACT is” when you shouldn’t, and you smear capitalism when you know nothing of it.
IF Elon Musk were in fact a capitalist, he’d risk his OWN money, not slurp 465 million off of us to accomplish a nebulous “something.”
THAT is capitalism.

By the way PL, when a Tesla bricks itself, is it coverd under warranty?

Thank you for proving that fiscal conservatism is impossible without social conservatism. As you can see "smart business" has taken the place of what is right and moral in your (and his) calculations. He advocates (because he practices) taking money (by force... because the IRS doesn't operate on suggestions) from people without very much of it, in order to have the government give it to his company, which could not convince investors to willingly give that much money to him. A portion of which he then skims off to pay back to the government in the form of campaign contributions. This is evil.

How many other immoral actions could you justify as "good business"? Burning down a competitor's factory? Extortion and bribery? Killing your competitors' families (that's "good business" in may parts of the world)?

The fact is that you are praising him for using the force of the government to take money from others, thereby growing the size of government and destroying the economic liberties of those taxed to create his largesse. You obviously don't have a clue as to what your own screen-name means...

You avoid anything that doesn't fit your progressive view.

For the third time: Edisons electric car was a hot item in 1912. This is 2012.

Electric cars were abandoned for a better idea.

And Tesla is NOT capitalism. Capitalism is using your own money or investors. Progressive liberals (COMMIES) suck the public teat.

“And Tesla is NOT capitalism. Capitalism is using your own money or investors. Progressive liberals (COMMIES) suck the public teat.”

As I asked PL earlier in thread: IF Elon Musk is worth 650 million, why does he need 465 miliion of our money to begin with?

PL’s response was to be insulting instead.

“As I asked PL earlier in thread: IF Elon Musk is worth 650 million, why does he need 465 miliion of our money to begin with?”

Actually he’s worth $2 billion+. He was not the one taking money, that was the corporation Tesla, of which he owns about 25%. But don’t let petty facts interfere with your misinformation...

“PL’s response was to be insulting instead.”

I try to stick to just the facts, ma’am. I was called a liar (which was complete BS btw) before y’all got torched.
