The first ones were I think, maybe. I remember watching a TV show on the Wilson company that makes footballs for the NFL. They use split cow hide. It was a very interesting show.

It is currently a leather ball.

The National Basketball Association (NBA) allows only one official ball: The ball must be the official NBA game ball manufactured by Spalding. The ball is orange in color, 29.5 (749 mm) inches in circumference and weighs 22 ounces (624 g) (size 7). It must also be inflated to between 7.5 and 8.5 pounds per square inch. Starting in the 2006 season, the NBA switched to a new ball from Spalding that had a synthetic surface and a modified rib pattern (See section below). Until 2005 the ball had a leather surface. On December 11, 2006 the NBA decided to revert to the old leather ball due to numerous player complaints, lawsuits and injuries, mostly scratched hands, from the synthetic ball. Spalding has manufactured the official NBA game ball since 1983.

I’m with you. What is it with pro sports and tattoos? It isn’t about individuality is it? Couldn’t be, how do millions of people express their “individuality” in exactly the same way? It’s really a rigid conformity of non-conformity or being unconventional in a very conventional way. They’re all robotic copycats. Why don’t they express their individuality through expression of thought and ideas. Oh, wait, that’s impossible - they dress the same way, talk the same way (fifty word vocabulary), listen to the same hip hop and rap; basically, the scum of the earth.

I’m not big on wearing fur as I love animals. Fur does have its uses though and I’m not going to attack others for choosing to wear it. That said, at least making animal skin into clothing to protect ourselves is more useful than making animal hide into a basketball for recreation. Just sayin’...

That Wilson TV documentary was pretty good. It showed at the end the golden NFL stamp on the ball. So not sure if Wilson does NBA balls as well.

He is holding a Spalding TF-1000 HzO which is not a leather ball...according the spalding website

"The cover of this ball is made from our exclusive ZK® microfiber with full-ball pebbling for incredible grip"

A mere $74.99

The NBA tried man-made materials several years ago. The players complained that the balls were too slippery. They changed back to pigskin balls in mid-season.

So I take it we are to start hunting basketball thugs for their skin to make our garments?

Damn that would be one butt ugly coat.

Of course. That’s why it’s called Hyde. Naugas became popular after the evil white hunters nearly wiped out the buffalo
