Olney’s Support the Troops Rally 2012 WRAP UP - Pic Heavy

Posted on 01/01/2013 5:32:39 PM PST by trooprally

Our Olney Support the Troops Rally is still going strong.

With the economy and election putting a damper on 2012, our regulars and not-so-regulars standing tall.

Jimmy Valentines Brother made it up one Saturday when we needed help.

We also had several passer-bys stop and stand with us along with numerous joggers and walkers thank us for our support of the troops including FReeper MomToThree. As her screen name indicates, having 3 kids makes it hard stand with us. But her and the kids always enthusiastically wave as they drive by. Many of the others who stopped by are active duty military and they appreciated us being there.

Veterans standing tall during the last 6 months of 2012 are: Dave (Navy- WWII), Glenn (USMC - Iwo Jima), Halsey (USMC - Korea), Martin (Navy - late 50s), Lurker Jim (Army- Vietnam),) Carl (Army- Vietnam), Cindy_True_Supporter (Army - Vietnam Era) and [Mrs] Trooprally (Army - early 70s),

Along with FReepers 3DJoy, Lurker Bill, Janet, Fraxinus, GunsAreOK, Jimmy Valentines Brother, Sensei Ern and myself.

In case you missed it, here is the DC Chapter’s Christmas Party AAR

As with the Christmas Party, we always have a good time in Olney. Lurker Bill brings his sound system that has a wide variety of music, mostly patriotic but it ranges from big band songs to County. It is loud enough that one can sometimes see the moonbats tapping a foot to the music, at least until the patriotic music comes on.

The moonbats show up on an irregular schedule, sometimes showing up late and then leaving early.

Some high lights of our weeks in Olney.

BELOW LEFT: Carl BELOW RIGHT: Halsey and Cindy_True_Supporter

BELOW LEFT: 3DJoy’s appearance is always looked forward to. She is such a “joy” to be around when she is in town. BELOW RIGHT: Lurker Jim and 3D.

BELOW LEFT: Always smiling Lurker Bill BELOW RIGHT: And me.

BELOW LEFT: Dave and Janet BELOW RIGHT: Glenn

BELOW LEFT: Lurker Jim’s famous salute BELOW RIGHT: Me and Fraxinus

BELOW LEFT: July 28 was a special week. Lurker Bill on our corner. BELOW RIGHT: As troop supporters kept arriving, our numbers, 13, crowded the corner. Lurker Bill headed over to a 2nd corner.

BELOW LEFT: Glenn and Janet BELOW RIGHT: Dave

BELOW LEFT: Lurker Jim with Fraxinus BELOW RIGHT: Carl

BELOW LEFT: GunsAreOK with a well worn sign over the years at Walter Reed and Olney. BELOW RIGHT: And Cindy_True_Supporter

BELOW LEFT: Me and Lurker Jim, and his customary salute BELOW RIGHT: Me with Martin

BELOW LEFT: 9-11 Weekend - Lurker Jim with Fraxinus looking on. BELOW RIGHT: Burtonsville, MD Volunteer Fire Department. They kept the flag up for several weeks.

BELOW LEFT: Me with flags flying high for the 9/11 Anniversary. BELOW RIGHT: Lurker Bill with flags on our left flank. We have an Air Force flag but because it is in the middle of our line, it rearly gets into pictures.

BELOW LEFT: Cooler weather is finally upon us in mid-October BELOW RIGHT: Janet with gloves on.

BELOW LEFT: Cindy_True_Supporter with mother of wounded warrior from Walter Reed. Cindy has kept in touch with the many families she met at Walter Reed. BELOW RIGHT: And Lurker Bill proves it is cooler on this mid-October saturday.

BELOW LEFT: A TWO-FOR by Lurker Bill who took these pictures. First, there is the Air Force Flag. And yes, that is Jimmy Valentines Brother with GunsAreOK. JVB answered the call for FReepers this week with [Mrs] T and I not being able to show up. BELOW RIGHT: Halsey with a Vietnam era Marine utility cap. One does not see utility caps now a days.

BELOW LEFT: First Saturday of November proves to be a cold and windy one. BELOW RIGHT: Wind blowing banner.

BELOW LEFT: Cindy_True_Supporter having a bad hair day on this 1st Saturday of November. BELOW RIGHT: But not cold enough for Lurker Bill

BELOW LEFT: Passer By stops to stand with us on a warmer November 10th BELOW RIGHT: And another Passer By stops by the following Saturday.

BELOW LEFT: Glenn says that he is not a cold weather person. But support of our troops keeps him coming out on these colder days. BELOW RIGHT: Lurker Jim still standing tall on this cold but sunny day.

BELOW LEFT: But the December 01 proves even colder as even Lurker Bill has his gloves on. BELOW RIGHT: A week makes a difference as the weather warms up for Lurker Bill

BELOW LEFT: But still chilly enough that Halsey and Lurker Jim have their heavy jackets on. BELOW RIGHT: Halsey made it this week with his soft cast on.

BELOW LEFT: Sensei Ern and me with our heavy jackets on. BELOW RIGHT: And Glenn makes it out the following week with his injury.

BELOW LEFT: And then the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School

BELOW LEFT: The Saturday before Christmas was the coldest so far as Halsey had his hood up and I had my ski cap on. BELOW RIGHT: And Lurker Jim also had his hood up. Oh, did I mention that it was also VERY, VERY windy as the flag shows.

We wrap up the year on December 29 with a cold rain-snow mix.

BELOW LEFT: A wet pair, Lurker Jim and Halsey BELOW RIGHT: Lurker Bill - With his beard and mustache!!

AND FINALLY

Great pics!

It looks to be warmed there than in Texas!

I remember the good times when I was able to join you and the rest of the Freepers at Walter Reed......

Bless y’all!

We need you both to send some warm weather up here.

If you can’t, your hugs and well wishes will do just fine.

We’re having a cold, yucky spell just now-—no precipitation, just cold and windy. (We really need rain—haven’t had any for almost 5 months!)

If it warms up, I’ll try to blow it northeast—LOL!

WOW!!

What a great group of pictures to cover the entire year. I am glad that I was at least a small part of it!!

I am sure the parents of our Troops are very proud of the continuous support that this event, Veterans, and FR show for their sons and daughters.

You may have been a “small” part this year but your visits are always memorable.

It seems that more of our military stopped by this half of the year. I have heard that they feel let down and forgotten by this president. By seeing us out there I hope they know that they are appreciated.

Well thank you from the DC Chapter.

It has been a while since there was an Olney AAR so I am glad to see you reading it.

My New Year Resolution: Be more prompt in writing the AARs.

Thank you for the well wishes.

2013 looks like it will be starting off in the right direction. After several weeks of cold, windy and wet weather, this Saturday’s forecast is calling for sunny, mid-40s temps.

And this Saturday is our 7 Year Anniversary.

[Mr] T
