Washington Post Column: The character assassination of Hillary Clinton
Washington Post ^ | 01/01/2013 | Kathleen Parker

The new year began not with a cannonball off the “fiscal cliff” but with an outbreak of conspiratorial cynicism.

This time it’s Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, whose fall and concussion, followed by a blood clot between her brain and skull, has prompted an embarrassment of theories. The gist: That woman will do anything to avoid testifying about Benghazi.

Several commentators on the right opined via Twitter and TV, those most deadly hosts for the parasites of rumor and innuendo, that Clinton was faking her concussion to duck out on her appearance before congressional committees investigating the attack on the U.S. diplomatic compound in Libya that killed Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three other Americans.

An independent report published last month placed substantial responsibility for the deaths on the State Department. Not only was security at the Benghazi compound weak, relying heavily on local forces with conflicting loyalties, but requests for additional security apparently were ignored or denied.

The sentiment that Clinton might not wish to testify on the matter is not without reason. It is hard to imagine the agony of knowing that one’s lack of vigilance may have contributed to four deaths. But the attacks on Clinton during her illness, essentially attacks on her character, have been cruel and unfair. What must the world think of us?

Clinton, who fainted as a result of dehydration after a bout of flu, hit her head and suffered a concussion, after which a blood clot was discovered. She had to be hospitalized while blood-thinning medications were administered and monitored.

Although her critics backed off once the clot was reported, initial responses ranged from “She’s faking” to demands for proof of her concussion.

One writer demanded her medical records. John Bolton, former ambassador to the United Nations, called Clinton’s affliction a “diplomatic illness”

Think Bill Casey! What were the leftists saying when he had a brain tumor? And what did the esteemed WCompost reporter, Bob Woodward do afterward? He made up deathbed confessions or some such. Maybe hubby can make up some Hillary confessions when she croaks. At least they will be humorous unlike Woodward9’s.

” Clinton, who fainted as a result of dehydration after a bout of flu, hit her head and suffered a concussion “

For me to take this statement as reported would require the willful suspension of disbelief on my part.
... and I’m just not ready for that.

I agree that the attacks on Mrs Clinton's health issues have been cruel. I have followed the Clinton's since their early days in Arkansas, and hate everything that they are and stand for, but I haven been embarrassed disappointed in the post that have been on Free Republic. There is plenty to crucify her for other than her health.

RE: She has left her trail of lying and avoiding telling the truth from White Water to her plane being shot at when she was flying over some country close to Russia.

Don’t forget her claim that she was named after the Explorer who First reached the top of Mt. Everest — Edmund Hillary. Mr. Hillary accomplished the feat in 1953, Hillary Rodham was born in 1947.

Apparently, her parents knew that Sir Hillary would accomplish his feat 6 years before he did it!!

She later had to take back the story...

http://www.wnd.com/2006/10/38409/

Years after alternative media pointed out the virtual impossibility, Sen. Hillary Clinton finally has admitted she was not named for the famous conqueror of Mount Everest, Sir Edmund Hillary.

The New York Times, which repeated the claim as fact in a story just one week ago, reported Sen. Clinton’s campaign issued a correction yesterday.

“It was a sweet family story her mother shared to inspire greatness in her daughter, to great results I might add,” said spokeswoman Jennifer Hanley.

For more than a decade, Sen. Clinton’s informal biography repeated the story, and it was recounted in former President Bill Clinton’s 2004 autobiography, “My Life.”

The problem with the tale, however, is one of timing. Sir Edmund and his Sherpa guide, Tenzing Norgay, became known to the world only in 1953, after becoming the first men to reach Everest’s summit. Sen. Clinton was born in 1947.

Nevertheless, Clinton recounted to the press her meeting with Sir Edmund in 1995, during an Asian tour, in which she told the mountain climber how her mother had named her.

“It had two l’s, which is how she thought she was supposed to spell Hillary,” she said. “So when I was born, she called me Hillary, and she always told me it’s because of Sir Edmund Hillary.”

In 1947, Sir Edmund was an unknown beekeeper, but Clinton had explained her mother read about him in a publication while pregnant and liked the name.

The Oct. 10 Times story – about Sen. Clinton’s mother moving in to the family’s house in Washington – stated “her mother named her for the mountaineer Sir Edmund Hillary.”

The character assassination of Hillary Clinton began in 2008 when she posed a threat to the candidacy of Barack Hussein Obama, golden child and bringer of HOPE and CHANGE.

Even Bill Clinton felt the “racist” charge hurled at the Clintons.

Libs will circle the wagons and never call out their own side for using such tactics.

Selective memory and all that.

RE: OK, events have conspired to keep her from testifying........ pretty damned efficeiently so far.

Has Hillary ever been prosecuted for TRAVELGATE, when an innocent man named Billy Dale was almost bankrupt trying to defend himself against false charges contrived by none other than Hillary Clinton?

For those who don’t remember, It began in May 1993, when seven employees of the White House Travel Office were fired. This action was unusual because although theoretically, its employees served at the pleasure of the President and could be dismissed without cause, in practice, such employees had remained in their posts for many years.

The White House claimed the firings were done because financial improprieties in the Travel Office operation had been revealed by a brief FBI investigation. Critics contended the firings were done to allow friends of the Clintons to take over the travel business and that the involvement of the FBI was unwarranted. Heavy media attention forced the White House to reinstate most of the employees in other jobs and remove the Clinton associates from the travel role.

Further investigations of the firings by the FBI and the Department of Justice, the White House itself, the General Accounting Office, the House Government Reform and Oversight Committee, and the Whitewater Independent Counsel all took place over the subsequent years. Travel Office Director Billy Dale was charged with embezzlement but found not guilty at trial in 1995. First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton gradually came under scrutiny for allegedly having played a central role in the firings and making false statements about her role in it.

In 1998, Independent Counsel Kenneth Starr exonerated President Bill Clinton of any involvement in the matter. In 2000, Independent Counsel Robert Ray issued his final report on Travelgate, stating that Hillary Clinton had made factually false statements but there was insufficient evidence her statements were either knowingly false or that she understood that her statements led to the firings.

THAT WAS IT !!! Billy Dale was NEVER justly compensated for being falsely accused by this Wicked Witch of the Mid West.

Good points. Evidently events have always been on her side. Many of us know they were contrived.

What do you mean "world"???

Parker's word (note the quote), not mine. I think it's sort of funny, actually - Parker apparently feels "the world" is going to care what we say about a two-bit Mussolini like Clinton, and that we should care about what "the world" thinks in the first place.

Couldn't agree with you more about her and Brooks. Washington insiders like them do tend to circle the wagons around other insiders such as Hillary. I'm guessing what Parker meant by "the world" was "the people who count". That would not be us.

Just to name a few reasons people doubt Hillary’s word.

Rose Law Firm. FBI Files, Vince Foster death,The Beef fortune,Her campaign funds, Her use of a Government plane to campaign for Senator she never paid for,When you add all of Hillary’s scandals together she doesn’t really stand out as a truth teller. How can you ruin the Character of someone who has done so much to ruin their own character.

I refer you to billthedrill comment, as it seems to fit the bill for your comment. I wouldn’t be too sympathetic for Hilary, she’s a big girl and we don’t need to be concerned about the enemy’s feelings or how Leftists media personalities feel about us. We have to attack the Left at all times, otherwise we will play defense and LOSE.

“Kathleen Parker, concern troll. Lord knows how the world cursed us for the job done on Michele Bachman or Sarah Palin, right? Right, Kathleen? “

Kathleen Parker, lol!

Why am I not surprised that she would jump to the defense of a corrupt, lying, scumbag Democrat? She certainly never jumped to the defense of Sarah Palin, whom the rats and their newsroom acolytes smeared relentlessly and mercilessly from the time she was selected by McCain until, well, now.

Parker is hoping to vote for Hillary! in ‘16.

It’s never too soon for the Republicans to begin destroying any possible presidential hopeful the rats may throw up there. They should also destroy Democrat newsroom enemies like this simpleton Parker.

I don’t know what’s going on with Hillary!, but I do know that whwatever it is there’s lying and deceit involved.

Bill Clinton will probably be remembered by the HIGH INFORMATION VOTERS ( not the LOW INFORMATION VOTERS ) as one of the most corrupt president in American history.  Aside from being the ONLY popular elected president ever impeached, Bill Clinton's legacy extends to little more than widespread rococco corruption. Let's look at the great events (scandals) of the Clinton presidency and what they involve (Hillary was involved and helped to cover up in A LOT of them ).

The Scandals:
