Several Republican Congressmen Vote For Allen West Over Boehner For House Speaker

Andrew Kirell

It’s no secret that Speaker of the House John Boehner is currently unpopular with the more conservative elements of his Republican Party. As the new House voted for Speaker, several Republican congressmen made their negative feelings official, casting ballots for anyone but Boehner.

While other disgruntled GOPers either held their noses and voted for Boehner, or abstained entirely, several other Republicans cast protest votes in favor of Reps. Justin Amash (R-MI), Eric Cantor (R-MD), Louie Gohmert (R-TX), Raul Labrador (R-ID), former U.S Comptroller General David Walker, and the recently ousted and controversial Rep. Allen West (R-FL).

Rep. Walter Jones (R-NC) cast the protest vote for comptroller Walker, prompting a collective “Huh?” among social media users.

Rep. Paul Broun (R-GA) and Rep. Gohmert cast the two votes for West, who lost his re-election bid to Democrat Patrick Murphy.

Doesn’t need to be. The Speaker does not have to be a current elected offical. If you could get some of these guys to vote for you, you could be elected as Speaker of the House.

“What’s the advantage? The Republicans will take the blame for the same policies Pelosi will enact. At least if Pelosi was the speaker, the Republicans would have a chance in 2014. Now the Dems will win in 2014”

If there is no difference between boehner and pelosi (and there is) and no difference between republicans and democrats then why do you care who wins in 2014?

There were nine house republican members that voted for someone other than boehner. They split their vote over six people.

That’s right. Nine people voted for six different alternative candidates! Incredible.

Anybody can be Speaker if they can get the votes. There are no constitutional requirements for the job, although I imagine the Founders expected someone living and of good character to be chosen.

In addition to Allen West, Colin Powell also received a vote for Speaker today.

controversial Rep. Allen West (R-FL).

A God-Loving, God-Fearing man who believes the U.S. Constitution means what it says and is not afraid to call evil by its name, is controversial ?

Speaking of our Constitution, What are your thoughts on the nazi Germany style NDAA bill? (Indefinite detention of American citizens by our own military. No trial, no jury, no counsel, no due process is now okayed, if the Feds. want it to go that way, after an American’s incarceration.)

The dems in the House voted for Pelosi. If she hadn’t come in second, I would have been surprised.

Well, that DID stink and his explanation made it worse. Course, now this post probably subjects me to NDAA “enemy of the state” designation.

Thanks, thanks a lot.

It would be interesting to see how the 2010 Tea Party candidates voted.

West was my number one guy until that AYE vote of his. You are darn right it and his explanation stinks. No true conservative could possibly have voted for the anti-constitution NDAA imo. I hope somehow he can walk back his support of that nazi crap. As far as ‘enemies of the state’ goes.....I’ll bet my name was/is on all of their old lists and their new and current lists as well!

.
Absolutely nothing!

Obviously the dems stuck with her.
