Colorado Congresswoman Diana DeGette introduces bill to ban large magazines

WASHINGTON - Colorado Congresswoman Diana DeGette is plunging into the gun control debate with new legislation to ban high-capacity magazines.

DeGette introduced the proposal Thursday. The Democratic Congresswoman's district includes the site of the 1999 massacre at Columbine High School. It is also adjacent to last year's Aurora movie theater shooting site. In both of those attacks, the shooters' rifles were modified with high-capacity magazines. Those devices allow attackers to fire dozens of bullets without pausing to reload.

It should be easy to find volunteers to turn a few in, as long as we get to select the “storage” location.

Just to ensure no malice is intended....they would be empty.

The fire arms weren't ‘modified’ with a high-capacity clip. A clip is attached in order to provide ammunition. What pray tell is high capacity? 30 rounds, 20, 50, more than 1 muzzle loader?

Jackasses all!

No more gun control laws, period. The chipping away of our liberty one step at a time must end. We are at the point where if they keep pushing, it’s time to use them or lose them

As Biden might say, I have one word for you. Belt feed firearms.

In all seriousness, until our elected officials start dealing with the mental issue of the mass shooters I will always assume the gun grabbers are just communist thugs.

Communists love to take guns away from free people. Communists love to oppress disarmed people. Our officials are following the same pattern. The only conclusion that I can see is that they are communists or communist sympathizers.

“modified with high-capacity magazines”

I have modified mine so that it not only has `high-capacity’ magazines but: headers, straight pipes, a glass-pipe muffler, a Hurst shifter and Muncie transmission.
I’m looking for a decal of that angry woodpecker with a cigar in his mouth to put on the stock.

I do agree. I don’t think you’ll catch all the mental cases but if you go through history of these shootings, these perps have been crying for help and or needed that help for years but never got any and we see the results. Either the powers that be want it that way to push their agenda or they are so dumb. The Newtown shooter should have received mental help and/or be committed years ago.

I don’t own any high capacity magazines for guns. I turned them all into a modern art sculpture. Forcing me to give up those is interfering with my freedom of expression through art.

I wonder if "Democrat Colorado Congresswoman Diana DeGette" has seen how long it takes to swap mags?

I've seen guys do it at the shooting range in less than 2 seconds.

Perhaps Congresswoman DeGette's goal would be better served by preventing weapon access to mentally unstable people.

My favorite AK’s name was `Roscoevitch.’ Or just Roscoe. I still mourn his tragic drowning death in a boating accident.

I dearly hope these morons actually outlaw high capacity clips. if they do encounter a moment of sobriety and actually phrase it as high capacity magazines, I want to be the first to market high density magazines.

You expect too much. The writer is a "journalist".

Thus, ignorant of any subject he or she might be asked to write about. Especially those nasty and scary guns.

I would also wager that the writer cannot distinguish between automatic and semi-automatic. And has no idea what an "assault weapon" really is.

It has always been about handguns. Assault rifles was just a decoy to try and get their anti-gun foot in the door.

Once they get a ban on AWs then they will use the same reasons to go after handguns.

John Kennedy killed with a 5 shot bolt action rifle.

Bobby Kennedy with a .22 Iver Johnson Cadet revolver.

George Wallace wounded with a 5 shot Charter Arms .38spl.

Gerald Ford attacked with a 7 shot 1911 semi auto.

Edmond OK post office with two National Guard 7 shot 1911 pistols.

Ronald Reagan and Jim Brady with an RG-14 .22 revolver.

What do they all have in common? NONE over 7 rounds, yet after each one came a cry of panic to ban them.

True to form leftist enemies of freedom make up some false "solution" to a real problem. Personally, I think keeping psychotic people bent on violence out of schools is a far better solution to violence in schools than continuing to let mentally ill people shoot up schools and movie theaters using guns with smaller capacity magazines. If I had a 1st grader in a school I wouldn't want a deranged person killing kids with any weapon. Against unarmed victims it really doesn't matter what the magazine capacity of the weapon is, or for that matter what the weapon is.

Anybody who really cared about the victims and preventing similar future attacks would seek a solution that would actually help prevent the problem, such as expanding security protection in schools. But Congresswoman DeGette is more concerned with weakening our nation and advancing her leftist agenda than protecting our children.
