On radio today, Glenn reacted to the shocking video of some Ohio teens who taped themselves joking about gang raping a young female classmate. It’s another sad illustration of how morally depraved society is truly becoming. Glenn talks about the problem and how to solve it on radio today.

Last month, the New York Times published a detailed report on an alleged gang rape in the small Ohio football town of Steubenville. Two Steubenville football players, Trent Mays and Ma’lik Richmond were arrested on Aug. 22 in connection with the alleged rape, Deadspin previously reported. Months later, exactly what happened that night is still unclear. Few witnesses have come forward to discuss what happened to the unknown girl, who alleges she was assaulted and photographed by athletes from Steubenville High.
In the newly released video, a male, identified by a number of media outlets as former Steubenville High School student and baseball player Michael Nodianos, seems to talk about an instance of rape and other disturbing events surrounding the incident.
“Now, there was a video, viral video and it’s really pretty awful. A viral video that was going around from Steubenville in Ohio. Now, Steubenville, their football team is a ‑‑ this is one of those towns that revolve, it’s like, you know, Friday night lights. It revolves around football. This is not a white issue; this is not a black issue. This is a white‑and‑black issue. This is the best possible story to point out our problems because it was blacks and whites that did it together. So it shows this is a human problem, not a race problem. This is a human problem..”

There was a great satire post here at FR awhile back which discussed the percentage of whites who flash gang signs when having their photo taken.. LOL!! It's one of those 'funny but not funny' phenomenons indicative of a deeper desire (born of fear) to 'join rather than fight' the filthy, disgusting, lawless rap culture:
If you go and read the link in post #52 you will see the story that the “anonymous” team has put together.
According to that site she was lured into meeting the attackers by a girl-friend, given a date-rape drug, and taken from location to location and raped and sodomized repeatedly by more than the two boys so far charged.
She was taken to the homes of several football coaches, and possibly the prosecutors house.
I take the Anonymous source with some caution, but they have done a lot more work than the authorities, and when you read their site you realize why: huge conflicts of interest with the Sheriff and Prosecutor both having involvement in the case.
It makes for very interesting reading.
Same MO as Penn State. WTF is the deal with football that causes its fans to support rapists??

I spent an hour this morning reading about this case. The perps in custody, being tried as juveniles no less are BLACK!!!

You are wrong. One of the two arrested is black. All involved in the vid and rape, except the one black kid Malik, are middle and upper middle class white kids. All except Malik are in our University Scholars program at the high school. Malik is being raised by an upper middle class family whose children are in our University Scholars program. These boys got iPhones when they first came out and were given cars upon turning 16. The victim is upper middle class and attends an expensive private school.
I read the entire NYT story and it is little more than a swipe on the ‘poor rubes’ in Appalachia. Why can't they be as high class as the deviants in the Big Apple? However, it uncovers little to no real evidence. Neither does Anonymous. Rumor & Innuendo are not proof.
To me it sounds like there was most certainly shenanigans going on, but even with the State Prosecutor involved, it is going to be a very difficult to get a conviction. No physical evidence of ANY kind. No toxicology, No reliable Eye witnesses. Real tough case.
It’s NOT the same MO as Penn State. No football player at PSU raped any of the Sandusky victims. Horrible things were done by Sandusky alone. The people in power are now being investigated and the truth will come out as to what they knew and what they covered up, but don’t blame the innocent football players.

In pretrial hearings witnesses said under oath that she was penetrated both vaginally and anally yet did not respond as if she was conscious.

'Mr. Witness, Did you have anything to drink before the alleged assault? How Much? What kind. Did you smoke any weed or take any prescription medication? If so how much? If you saw an assault, why would you not try to stop this alleged assault./ If you are not sure if it what happened was consensual, AND you where there, how can we be expected to tell? This is hardly the slam dunk that many here and on other web sites think it to be.
None of the teenagers can be interviewed without parents present and any parent that would let their kids be interviewed without an attorney present, or even allow them to answer ANY questions is just plane stupid.
I think they will have a very tough time getting a conviction outside of a plea agreement.
Except the video, where Nodianos brags about her unconsciousness and rape status, shows that while perhaps inebriated they are fully aware of what is happening. The real story of why Anonymous is involved is because of the cover up. Our prosecutor’s son is rumored to be involved and she was the prosecutor for a few weeks before she turned the case over to the state. Ironically the football team deleted their pics and vids before BCI showed up at practice to collect phones. Gosh! I wonder how the team, on which the prosecutor’s son plays, knew to delete the evidence? Combine that with the sherriff being BFFs with the head football coach . . .
I am aware that these kids probably did assault this girl. That however, is not going to be easy to prove. This type of assault is always difficult to prove.
Like I said. The cross examination will be brutal for all involved. The defendants do not have to take the stand. The witnesses and the victim most certainly will have to take the stand. I sure as hell wouldn't want to be the victim when they start in on the questioning.
Meanwhile there is no physical evidence and the pictures are not incriminating, At least the one on the website showing the boys carrying the girl. She looks to be out cold, but is she? Is she just playing around with the guys. If she is out cold, are they abusing her, or helping her onto a couch so she could sleep it off?
This report answers the WHY question. These kids are amoral thugs because they were raised by amoral thugs in an environment where amoral thuggery is the norm. Is even small-town America today a lost cause? Yes. End of story. And (soon) end of country.
You are assuming that deleted files are really gone. We'll see.
I expect that the prosecutor will make Twitter, Facebook, MySpace, and possibly cell phone companeis cough up records. I bet there is a lot of elelctronic evidence still to be found out.
Also, there may be physical evidence. A shower doesn't get rid of abrasions and bruises. Or torn spincter muscles. It doesn't get rid of sperm in the vagina or anus.
I suspect there are lots of people who saw lots of things and have no interest in helping the "Rape Crew" get over. When you drag a unconscious girl across town you are going to get a lot of evidence. Possibly even some non-intoxicated people who want to testify. Adults, too.
A lot of people are going to be put under oath and asked to answer questions. I suspect many of them, who did nothing wrong, will be told by their parents and lawyers to do as the law requires and tell "the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth". I suspect when a lot of people do that there will be a lot of evidence. Perhaps even evidence "beyond a reasonable doubt".
But, maybe not. That's what trials are for, after all. We're at the very beginning.
Simply based on the actual news stories. There is no physical evidence and very sketchy eye witness testimony.
Please, understand that I think they did something up to anfd including rape. What it was will be hard to get out of this crew.
