Lawmakers across the state are taking on gun control issues in the aftermath of the school shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown on Dec. 14.
State Rep. Stephen Dargen, a Democratic legislator from West Haven, wants the names and addresses of about 170,000 handgun permit holders in the state to be made public.
Names of gun owners are now confidential, but Dargen believes if people know how many guns are spread across communities, theyll be safer.
State Senator Martin Looney, of New Haven, is proposing ammunition control legislation, which would prohibit anyone barred from owning a gun from owning bullets or any other kind of ammunition.
A gun without ammunition is only a club. We really need to restrict access to ammunition, Looney said.
Some gun owners and advocates feel that the federal law that bans the sale of ammunition to felons is enough and enacting it on the state level wont be effective....

I propose making the names and addresses of government officials publicly available.
Sounds like a good idea. That way, the criminals will know which homes are safe to hit and we won’t have so many injured criminals.
I second that motion.
What stupid people. It is great that right now convicts are using the already posted info to target leo’s. They won’t think it is so great when they suffer a home invasion because robbers know that they are a rich politician with no guns on site.
That is a good idea, but is probably against the law. Still a good idea.
we should start a whitehouse petition.
"Don't worry, Thenator! You're thafe with uth!"
State senator Martin Looney. ‘nuff said.
State senator Martin Looney. ‘nuff said.
OK, then publish all his personal data on the Internet: name. address, kidsâ names, phone numbers (land, cell), e-mail accounts, bank accounts, house photos, floor plan, security arrangements, arrest records, EVERYTHING! Make his life totally transparent. See if he likes it.
Click the link. Someone DID post his phone number and address...I’m not sure if his personal or not, but it’s there.
Look for the poster “Connecticut Carry, Inc.”
This lawmaker is a terrorist.
Now that is good, makes perfect sense.
Legal licensed gun owners cause us no harm, but government officials do.
I second that proposal!
Someone should put his Address and a photo of his house here...and His Photo and even where His kids go to school
lets look into his criminal history and any other Law suits...
Because We have a right to know!!!!
make all lawmakers’ personal info freel available. and i mean everything.
let’s’ see how they like it.
well, he’s a traitor, that is certain.
>>Rep. Stephen Dargan of West Haven doesnt back down from a fight. When people call and leave threatening messages he calls them back. By Friday at 2 p.m. he had about 70 messages on his home answering machine in response to his proposal to make the names and addresses of gun permit holders public. That information has been confidential since 1994.
Everytime you try to expand Freedom of Information statutes everybody goes nuts, Dargan said Friday. But hes not fazed by the opposition to the bill. Im used to it, Dargan said. Ive been a representative for a very long time. Dargan was elected to the House in 1990. As chair of the Public Safety Committee, Dargan deals with law enforcement on a regular basis. But he said he hasnt felt compelled to call any police officers to inform them of the phone messages. Dargan let CTNewsJunkie listen to one of the angry calls from a gun enthusiast. You need to stop this please, the caller said. This has gone too far. The male caller described the legislation as a hate crime against gun owners. Dargan, whose home phone is publicly listed, calls many of the callers back and talks to them if their number shows up on caller ID. He said they may not agree, but they seem to reach an understanding. Im a middle-of-the-road guy, Dargan said.
you beat me to it.
