Obama could sidestep Congress on gun control

US president Barack Obama is reportedly considering implementing the most comprehensive gun control measures seen in decades.

US president Barack Obama is reportedly considering implementing the most comprehensive gun control measures seen in decades.

A task force led by vice-president Joe Biden is reportedly considering wide-ranging proposals going well beyond simply reinstating a ban on assault weapons and high capacity ammunition.

The Washington Post reports that a national data base tracking gun sales, mental health checks, and background checks are all on the table.

And in a move that is set to anger opponents of gun control, the taskforce is reportedly looking at measures that can be implemented by the president's order without the approval of Congress.

The White House is understood to want swift action while the public remains outraged over the deaths of 20 children and six adults in the Newtown school shooting in Connecticut last month.

Some reports suggest Mr Obama will have the proposals on his table within weeks.

Democrat congressman Chris Van Hollen says any approach the Obama administration takes must be comprehensive.

"The argument against gun safety provisions is always because it doesn't solve everything we shouldn't do anything and I don't subscribe to that," he said.

"I believe we need a comprehensive approach, we need to look at all the different elements here and just because a particular effort won't prevent something in one particular incident, doesn't mean you shouldn't do anything that might help in other incidents.

"Right now you can be on the terrorist watch list, you can be prevented from boarding an aeroplane, but you can go down the street and buy a semiautomatic assault weapon."

With the new Congress sworn in just days ago, 10 different bills are already on the table dealing with gun laws separate to Mr Obama's working group.

Thugs and dictators want law abiding citizens disarmed for obvious reasons.

The US Constitution does not apply to King Obama.

The purpose of the second amendment may soon become glaringly apparent. If he thinks that people will roll over on this issue, he's got another thought coming. 2 billion rounds of hollowpoints in the hands of DHS isn't adequate to sway people.

• If the representatives of the people betray their constituents, there is then no recourse left but in the exertion of that original right of self-defense which is paramount to all positive forms of government, and which against the usurpations of the national rulers may be exerted with infinitely better prospect of success than against those of the rulers of an individual State. In a single State, if the persons entrusted with supreme power become usurpers, the different parcels, subdivisions, or districts of which it consists, having no distinct government in each, can take no regular measures for defense. The citizens must rush tumultuously to arms, without concert, without system, without resource; except in their courage and despair.
— Alexander Hamilton, Federalist No. 28
The founders had it right and the time to follow their advise is drawing near—consider the following quote—
“The most foolish mistake we could possibly make would be to allow the subject races to possess arms. History shows that all conquerors who have allowed their subject races to carry arms have prepared their own downfall by so doing.”
— Adolph Hitler, Hitler’s Secret Conversations 403 (Norman Cameron and R.H. Stevens trans., 1961)

(I've wondered if much of the libs opposition to firearms is because they can't legally own them because they can't pass mental illness background checks.)

Nice one!

ALL the kid killers were on psychoactive drugs... with the blessing of idiot liberals who see mind mucking drugs as ‘the answer’...

Does Obama understand that?

http://www.wnd.com/2013/01/the-giant-gaping-hole-in-sandy-hook-reporting/

Guns have been with us for hundreds of years... schools for thousands.

Psychoactive drugs came into being right around the time crazed kids started mass killings.

Public housing is full of government dependents who will ignore any law that tries to disarm them ... yet the same fools will contineu to vote for the european socialist bastards like Obama and Feinswine and Schumer. I don’t see leos going door to door in the housing projects confiscating shotguns and pistols and rifles, do you? So who does that mean these democrat sonsabitches are aiming to disarm with their new ‘regulations’? Yes, the democrats are the enemy within the Republic. Time for them to have their tickets to rule cancelled.

Executive orders are not laws. The President of the United States can not enact a law, only congress can do that.

The role of president has far exceeded anything the founding fathers would have imagined.

The President of the United States is the chief executive of the Executive branch of the United States and the commander in chief of our military.

Executive orders are instructions to the various departments within the executive branch.

The only reason this administration is allowed to get away with so much is because his party controls the Senate, the opposition party in the house are a bunch of wimps, and the main stream media is acting like a PR firm for him.

As the old story goes, we are all a bunch of frogs in a pot of water. That water has been getting hotter and hotter, soon it will be boiling. Will we jump (and do something) before we are all boiled alive?

Future historians are going to enjoy this time period because there are so many different forces at work. It is impossible to predict how all this is going to turn out (other then very bad for all concern).

Of COURSE the goal is to do it without Congress. A dictatorship is the goal.

If a Republican were doing this, ruling without Congress, the national media would be screaming about his inability to work with the Legislative branch.

But 99% of the national and local media have their faces buried in Obama’s butt. So no criticism is found.

The one we gun owners need to watch closely is what Liberals keep referring to as the “Gun Show Loophole.”

What they're calling a Gun Show Loophole is when private citizens meet at gun shows and buy or sell guns from other private citizens and no background check is made. When no background check is made to determine whether or not the buyer is a felon or mentally incompetent, the possibility exists that you have just sold a firearm to a felon or a nut.

Liberals say that if we will just pass a law that closes this “Gun Show Loophole,” gun buyers at Gun Shows will have to purchase their guns only from licensed gun dealers with a Federal Firearms License (FFL) at the Gun Show and a background check will be made to determine the eligibility of the buyer.

This law, if passed, may sound reasonable to some, but what that law will do is make it illegal to sell or trade guns among your friends and relatives, but criminals and the mentally disturbed will continue to purchase their guns from the trunk of the car of the guy parked in the alley behind Wal-Mart who also sells marijuana, cocaine, etc., etc.

Let your elected representatives know that they must not pass laws that will take freedom from law abiding citizens but will not change in the slightest how criminals attain firearms in this country.
