Is this implying some NONextreme control will pass?
what is NONextreme control?
does anyone trust ANY politician? they just tack this junk onto “must pass” bills and cry crocodile tears of agony.
The article explains the Dakota mindset in the decade before the current oil boom. The idea is basically to send liberal turds to Washington in order to maximize their take of Federal goodies but elect conservatives on the state and local level to ensure that the money isn't squandered.
Heitkamp was active in state politics way back when I lived there. She is typical of this genre of red state congress critters in that she is outgoing and personable during election campaigns and the average voter pays little attention to what they actually do in Washington.
Gun control is a typical high profile issue where they can talk conservative AND get permission from theur liberal leadership to make high profile votes on legislation which is either (a)unlikely to pass anyway or (b)pass with enough of a majority that their votes won't matter.
Such votes are, of course, pulled out every election cycle and trumpeted as evidence that the leftwing congress critter is really an independent voice for the state.
Quite Machiavellian if true-—the voters of ND. They are basically conservative which is why the the state almost always votes GOP in presidential elections, but they want to make sure they get their share of federal pork, which is why they have a long history of electing Dems to the US Senate and House. This explains the anomaly to me adequately I think. At least the best explanation I’ve heard so far. Rather than vote the straight party ticket, the voters are leveraging their votes to maximize the greatest return possible.
True, but who says der 0berFuhrer Hussein 0bama is going to bother with a Constitutional process? He don't need no steenken' permission from congress!
Don’t worry - Obamacare won’t pass.
Don’t worry - Dodd Frank Reform won’t pass.
Don’t worry - Congress will never get tax hikes through.
Don’t worry - Obama will never issue the Dream Act via Executive order.
Don’t worry - the Courts will never uphold Obamacare.
How much longer do we have to listen to these people?
Check comment# 30.
A filibuster may not happen, with the dems changing the rules in the Senate.
I have about as much faith in this as I did in Bart Stupak’s “career pro-life” position when it came to Obamacare. She’s a newly elected liberal from a conservative state who ran as a sorta-conservative candidate (dizzy yet?, lol). She’s not going to anger the folks back home this early in the game.
Make no mistake, though, just like Stupak’s craven fold to the “accommodation” on abortion drugs in Obamacare, Heitkamp will fall right in line when (not if) Obama massages the message to make a more “reasonable” gun control (grab) approach.
Sea hag
Thanks for the ping!
“. EOs dont trump the a Constitution.”
Exwec. Orders have effect of law until and unless successfully challenged by the Congress (toothless w. Roadblock Reid in place) or by a successful appeal to federal court. Meanwhile, the harm is done.
