HEITKAMP: OBAMA’S EXTREME GUN CONTROL WON’T PASS CONGRESS
Human Events ^ | 1/6/2013 | Neil W. McCabe

Posted on 01/07/2013 9:58:03 AM PST by neverdem

The newly sworn in freshman Democratic senator from North Dakota told George Stephanopoulos on his “This Week” ABC News program that President Barack Obama’s agenda to further restrict gun rights will not pass Congress.

“Well, I think you need to put everything on the table, but what I hear from the administration — and if the Washington Post is to be believed — that’s way — way in extreme of what I think is necessary or even should be talked about–and it’s not going to pass,” said Sen. Heidi Heitkamp (D-N.D.), who defeated former Republican Rep. Rick Berg by 2,994 votes in the 2012 general election.

Stephanopoulos asked the former North Dakota attorney general, “You’re a proud NRA member in the state of North Dakota, are you willing to sign on to some of the reforms that Vice President Biden and President Obama are already talking about?”

She said, “I think what we need to do is we need to take a look at what happened at Sandy Hook. When I was attorney general, I was tasked with a national task force on school violence.”

Those measures were similar to the security procedures in place at the Sandy Hook School in Newtown, Conn., where a spree-shooter killed 26 teachers and students, she said.

“We made a number of recommendations which, in fact, were adopted at Sandy Hook to help keep schools safer. They weren’t adequate,” she said...

“OBAMA’S EXTREME GUN CONTROL WON’T PASS CONGRESS”

Depends on if Obama can make Boehner cry enough that Boehner gives in on gun control just like he did on the Fiscal Cliff and just like he will on the Debt Ceiling.

She also appeared recently on an interview by Diane Sawyer with the Senate Council of 20 Witches (sic) and was just cackling away with the likes of Feinstein, Mikulski, et al. so I have no doubt about the true cut of Heitkamp’s jib.

So far the House has had the fighting mettle of a French army platoon, under the command of an overcooked noodle.

I took a law school class from a professor named Neil McCabe ... if I recall, he lost tenure due to a student rape scandal. He was a degenerate liberal, though ... so I kinda doubt this was written the same Neil McCabe. He didn’t seem like the “Human Events” type.

I am not an expert on ND politics. I do LOVE that state, very pro-business, low taxes, right to work, pro drilling, a sensible state government, pro Second Amendment. The state has only voted Democrat for president maybe three or four times since it joined the union last time in 1964.....few states can match such a record....that all said, how DO Democrats get elected to ANYTHING in ND? Ever?????

Call the idiots in Congress and tweet them.

Tell them not to fall for the media lies and to uphold the 2nd amendment, our gun rights , our individual rights and freedom which democrats and their media want to take away.

It was never intended to pass - its just a stalking horse for negotiations which is set at such an extreme that any ‘major concessions’ the left makes in the debate will still result in draconian gun regulation at a Federal level.

Believe it or not, that seat that Heidi won hasn’t elected a Republican to it since 1958. North Dakota had a heavy Socialist influence going back to the early 20th century, which was mostly with the Republican party (the Democrat party was largely non-existent). The battles within the GOP were between the Conservative element and the Socialist Non-Partisan League. In the late ‘50s, the NPL decided to exit the GOP and merged with the weak Democrats. Federally, the Democrats dominated from 1980 until 2010, but the GOP has been largely in control of the state since after 1990.

Alas, the GOP nominated the weak at-large Congressman who was only a freshman (and polling data indicated he was having trouble throughout the campaign). Heitkamp was part of the last group of Democrats that won office statewide (and haven’t since). Just as she won, the strong GOP candidate for the open House seat took it without much difficulty. Heitkamp has to know she has a big target on her back if she goes far left (especially on guns). I expect the new GOP Congressman Kevin Cramer will probably be her opponent in 2018.

“OBAMA’S EXTREME GUN CONTROL WON’T PASS CONGRESS”

Not relevant. Executive Orders have effect of law, and virtually never have been negated by the Congress. The current Congress lacks the gonads required to even attempt such a corrective action.

Boehner went out on a limb with the taxes and it was almost cut off. I don't think he's going too far out on this one. I don't doubt that something will pass, like mental health checks, or more comprehensive criminal record checks, or the gun show "so-called" loophole, and will allow Zero to spike the football. (Like he did on taxes -- except I don't think he won that one, even if he and Boehner both believe he did. The Bush tax cuts are now permanent for 99%. The other 1% are smart enough to avoid most of the increase.) As for executive orders, I don't know what he can do that won't -- or can't -- be tossed by the courts. Maybe something, maybe not. I don't know -- but I doubt anything comprehensive like AWB 1.0 will make its way through the House.
