I heard the door close and then I just heard popping starting all over again. And then the secretary, she was down behind my desk and we pulled the phone off the desk and she called 911. ... she said, “... please send help right away. We have a shooter in the building.”
And then we just wanted to get out of there. And then we just ran into my big supply closet… We pulled that door closed. So we were behind two locked doors. And we could just hear the popping continue. And we heard screams. There’s nothing we could do. You know? It was just a helpless, horrible feeling....like a nightmare .... you just think it’s a bad dream.
After some time, I think it was about 11:15, so we had been in that closet for about an hour and a half, I opened the door and I peeked out, ’cause my office has a lot of windows and looks into the courtyard. And I just saw what looked like maybe SWAT people but I didn’t know, you know, who they were. I didn’t know if there were other shooters.
And it wasn’t until 1:15 when I– somebody was jiggling the door. And– but nobody called out. So I decided to be brave enough and open that door into the office and a lot of state police officers were there at that point. And they were very surprised to see me."

How different things might have turned out had she had a weapon in the bottom drawer of her desk -- or on a shelf in that closet that she retreated to.
Not sure I could sit there in fear while hearing 5 year olds get shot and killed. Don’t know what I could do, but definitely couldn’t sit there and live with myself.

I agree with the sentiment but very few people have the wherewithal to possess a CCW and follow-up on it.
Let’s face it: most people aren’t comfortable with guns and even less so with having them on their their person. Mrs. FD is a great Conservative but I still can’t get her to the gun range, much less CCW classes.
Saw it the first time around and I’ve seen nothing that contravenes my opinion then: this nurse ignored a responsibility to the injured staff and students when the shooting stopped. She chose to continue to cower in the closet.
I know it’s a hard opinion but I just can’t see how any medical professional could ignore the potential to save lives.
The shooter had 10+ minutes of unopposed shooting of innocents before armed police entered the building. He saw them and quickly killed himself as he wanted to die, not be captured.
The type of firearm, magazine capacity and bullets used were not the problem, the problem was a gun free zone and no good person on site capable of stopping him. He could have killed just as many in those 10+ minutes with two old Colt style revolvers and a pocket full of bullets. He was the monster, not the weapons.
My thoughts as well.
I don’t believe anything she says. She was the one who said Mrs. Lanza was the most wonderful kindergarten teacher a kid could have. Her earlier interviews she was by herself in the closet but now she’s in the closet with the secretary. The police had already given their presser with the numbers before SWAT found them in the closet?? So, she’s saying SWAT didn’t bother searching the front offices for another bad guy for 4 hours? I - don’t - think - so.
I share that opinion. I doubt she would have been useful anyway, school nurses don’t do much but determine that you should be sent home (with condoms, of course).
Yea, very little passes the smell test. Where’s the first responder interviews, security video, or photos of the dead shooter, or even the blown out front window where he entered the bldg?

I agree. But instead of figuring out what was wrong about him, they will focus on the hardware he used.
Where did she say this??? She didn't say that on the interviews that I have seen.

“Oh, it iss nothing,” observed this judicious person, who might have been mate, or such, of a country ship. “He got four only. Sometimes they kill eight—twelve—even more, till they get themselves killed. That fellow was just a common fellow.”
“But why—what was he after?”
“Oh, it iss just going amok, you know. That iss a habit wit’ the Malay folk. I have seen them often.”
Still Mr. Merry desired light.
“How can I say?” returned the other. “A native iss always a native, except when he iss only a man an’ a dam’ fool. Perhaps his woman has gone bad on him or he has played his last copper doit at gambling. Maybe he has crazied himself wit’ opium or bhang. Maybe he iss just come to a finish, you know?”
“A finish?” stammered Merry.
“Where he has no more use: where he gets sorry wit’ the world an’ wants to die quick. So he takes his knife an’ runs amok to stab so many people as he can, an’ he don’t care a dam’ if only he makes a big smash. It is like a sport, truly.”

What about the vaunted lock down programs in these school? From reports the outside doors are locked and apparently the shooter shot out the front door. This should have given time for someone to sound an alarm and lock all doors and call 911. I have a feeling that school lock down procedures are bureaucratic exercises that have never been tested in a realistic scenario. When I was a kid school fire drills were a joke. They were often announced in advance and when the alarm sounded we just walked out the door. No effort was made to use alternate escape routes or to instruct kids to crouch down to avoid inhaling the toxic smoke. Could school lock down procedures and drills be just as phony?
Ohhh - I believe what this nurse says because it is not particularly flattering to her as a nurse who could have helped as a first responder.
She painfully tells this story about her hunkering down in a closet [with no cell phone btw] while her charges are dying in the room next to her. And she stays in there 4 hours after the shooting stops.
There is video of her being escorted from the school 4 hours after everyone else.
‘Popping’ doesn’t sound like an AR-15 going off. More like a .22 pistol.
I totally agree, I could not save my skin while the kids I am supposed to be taking care of are getting slaughtered. What on earth is wrong with this person.
Good thing she was in a “gun-free” zone!
