Springfield (MA) ranked as 2nd most LGBT friendly city in America by Advocate magazine

The City of Firsts has ranked as the second-most gay friendly city in the nation according to a new list compiled by the LGBT publication Advocate magazine.

Springfield, coming in just behind Tacoma, Wash., nearly topped the 2013 list based on several factors including the number of LGBT elected officials, embracing marriage equality and the existence of a roller derby league based in the city.

Providence, R.I. was the only other New England city named by the magazine in its list, which looked only at municipalities with a population of at least 150,000.

"The city is among the top 10 cities in the U.S. in percentage of same-sex couples, according to the Census Bureau's American Community Survey, and it's a desirable place to relocate from the metropolises because of its location near skiing, shores, Boston, and Provincetown," the magazine wrote. "LGBTs appreciative of art and architecture inhabit gay-popular (neighborhoods) Downtown, (in) McKnight, Forest Park, and the Ridgewood/Maple Hill area of Six Corners."

Maybe it's just me, but I would be more concerned about the crime and infrastructure issues in Springfield.

Roller derby - who knew? I stopped taking my daughters to Silver Stars basketball games because of the just effin’-scary lesbians cruising around the AT&T center during games.

I was also thinking of basketball analogies, but I probably shouldn’t go there.

Lovely. I remember when it was known for the Armory and firearms manufacturing. :-(

I have several relatives in the area...I’m sure they’re thrilled (sarc)..well, maybe one of my cousin’s wives but not the rest. Shame, the houses there used to look so pretty going in through West Springfield into town. But it’s been in decline for decads..

Perhaps a more appropriate title for the list would be “Ten Places to Avoid”.

Great...I like to know in advance what cities to STAY AWAY FROM!

Sorry, but these people are beyond sick. The fact that some want to normalize this perversion is beyond me. “Hey, we should celebrate men and women mutilating themselves...yeah!”

Is it any wonder these people don’t want to be reminded of a Holy and Living God. Just sad.

Tacoma WA is No. 1
Mud City (due to all the rain) seems appropriate here too.

Northhampton isn’t on the list

They were only considering towns with at least 150,000 residents...otherwise, Northampton would be a slam-dunk...bulldyke central.

didn’t read the whole thing.

I went to UMASS/Amherst and could never figure out how/why they all settled there.

That is only because other New England towns don't meet the population thresh hold. All of New England is 'sodomite central'.
