EMERYVILLE, Calif. (KGO) -- People are used to seeing TSA inspectors at airports but on Wednesday, a specialized team made their presence known at the Amtrak station in Emeryville. Train stations are difficult to secure because they're so wide open but on Wednesday, the TSA showed up unannounced to let the public, especially potential troublemakers, know that they are keeping an eye on the rails.

Amtrak passenger Vera Molina said she noticed all the black-clad TSA inspectors right away and it's a presence she appreciates. Asked if she would like to see them more often she said, "I would, can't hurt, just in case you never know." As part of their nationwide "Viper Team" effort, the Transportation Safety Administration put about a dozen agents at the station to see and be seen, although some of the inspectors also work undercover.

"The visible deterrent is making a presence known at the station, getting on the train, talking to passengers, lettings the bad guys know that we're here, and letting the passengers know that we're here

Actually,I would wish the chains remind Vera and her ilk every moment just how stupid they were to exchange freedom for the “protection” of slavery.

Unlike airplanes, where the only place you can access them is when they’re parked on the ground, trains (and ferries and tractor-trailers etc) can be attacked anywhere, without needing to buy a ticket or be on board. If the TSA really wanted to protect them, they’d be walking the miles of rail/highway or searching the river/lake/bay bottom instead of pointlessly harassing the passengers.

Watch the video. I saw exactly ONE passenger as the thugs were walking through the train.

This is one of the reasons we are $16,000,000,000,000 (is that enough zeroes?) in debt. The government subsidizes a train that no one rides and then they send a dozen “agents” to make sure there is no trouble.

The trouble is that there are NO PASSENGERS you morons!

Total BS.

These are angling to unionize. Before you know it they’ll be everywhere and people are gonna get busted up, kids hurt and dogs shot.

Thank Goodness we know that the rails are safe.. /sarc

We are ruled by idiots.

Terrorists hijack planes because that is almost the only way you can make the nightly TV news with an airplane.

But who would hijack a train? That would be stupid even beyond what we see in DC.

Explosives set off under a bridge, which is over deep water or a canyon, would be the way to cause big damage to a train.

KGO radio is a Marxist Propaganda station shilling for Big Brother.

“Ohh! Yes! I like to see the brown shirts presence all around me....

Either that, or they will be his personal escorts at our expense.

with regard to subways, I’m not sure why the the tracks and loading decks are not fully separated by security fencing.

How many deaths must occur at the loading decks of subways before you take common sense action, Mr. Cumo?

How many?

Indeed the stupidest fiasco yet. If I was going to create a terror incident using the train, the station is the last place I would use. I would emulate the French resistance and sabotage the rails at a bridgehead or pour sand in the wheelboxes and destroy the bearings a few miles down the road.

Great thing about trains as opposed to planes, is you can blow one up without committing suicide in the process. I guess that escaped the notice of our government einsteins, who seem to assume the terrorist is going to buy a ticket to ride when he doesn't even have to.

Who the hell is going to blow up a train, for terrorist purposes, when there is only one or two passengers on the entire train?

You will take this train to Cuba or else. I demand a million dollars and a hand cart. LOL

“Just what bankrupt Amtrak needs. Another reason not to take the train.”

Yeah, I decided to try Amtrak from Oakland to Los Angeles last year just to see what it was like. While the train was comfortable, I don’t have TWELVE HOURS in my life to expend getting from the Bay Area to LA! It’s nearly always slow (top speed is limited to 79 mph which is almost never). It has to stop to let every freight train go by because Amtrak “rents” the rails from the freight hauling railroads. It’s just a disgrace that anything could be that bad from the standpoint of getting you from one place to another! I guess the only “plus” is that it’s a boon for minority employment!

Oh, you took the "Coast StarLATE"? < grin >

A nice trip, if you have all that time to kill, plus don't mind arriving in Los Angeles at 2:00 a.m.!

My first thought is that they want people to get use to seeing the brown shirts everywhere so when they haul us away in their train cars no one will notice.

“Looking for trouble where non exists,” as one commenter put it.”

They’re actually NOT looking for trouble. They’re looking to intimidate. They must have been accompanied by the local ‘authorities’ as they have no arrest powers. One big happy family of law enforcement.
