VATICAN CITY (AP) — The Vatican praised President Barack Obama's proposals for curbing gun violence, saying they are a "step in a right direction."

The Vatican's chief spokesman the Rev. Federico Lombardi, said Saturday that 47 religious leaders have appealed to members of the U.S. Congress "to limit firearms that are making society pay an unacceptable price in terms of massacres and senseless deaths."

"I am with them," Lombardi said, in an editorial carried on Vatican Radio, lining up the Vatican's moral support in favor of firearm limits.

"The initiatives announced by the American administration for limiting and controlling the spread and use of weapons are certainly a step in the right direction," Lombardi said.

Obama is trying to rally support for reinstating a ban on assault weapons...

I think it was the BREITBART site last week. They went out and asked the question of the man-on the-street; “What did you think of the second Obama inauguration?” They told them! Too funny. TOO apt, also.

It makes an impact in the world for ill concerning the name of the Lord. Just to declare that you do not care absents you from participating in important discussions. Anyone who cares about Christ cares about whether people are representing Christ truly or falsely.

Where is the AP on this?:

Pope Benedict Sort of Says Obama a Threat to Religious Liberty
By Catholic League, Thu, January 19, 2012
Without explicitly naming President Barack Obama, Pope Benedict XVI made it clear today that he sees the administration as a threat to religious liberty. The pope spoke eloquently on the role that religious freedom has played since the founding of America, and of the need for Catholics to follow the natural law. But he also said, “The legitimate separation of Church and State cannot be taken to mean that the Church must be silent on certain issues.” Specifically, he called attention to the “grave threats to the Church’s public moral witness presented by a radical secularism which finds increasing expression in the political and cultural spheres.”

The Vatican started to wake up when it became obvious Obamacare was going to force them down the road of paying for abortion and providing abortion related insurance. You take away the 2nd Amendment rights of the people, and there will be nothing left to stop a tyrannical government from attacking free speech, freedom of worship, freedom of assembly, freedom of conscience, and a host of other unpleasant things that impact the Catholic church.

All these left leaning churches/denominations need to wake up and get on the right side of history, the side of freedom before its lost.

I think pastor Martin Niemöller’s poem is applicable to this day. You stand against any attack on freedom, not just the ones that would effect you, or your race/religion/gender.

I have not understood why thinking people ever bought into religion since I started actually thinking about it at the age of 9.

Knowing it didn’t happen yet, I’d have to say that from what I heard I understand it was going to be a particularly shameless bash, but I haven’t seen it yet. They’re obviously answering from the planning and hype, not from any reports which do not yet exist!

That’s not useful to the AP agenda, so into the forgetting hole it goes.

Woah. The infiltration of homosexual activists and socialists within the Church is deep.

She’s still the Bride of Christ, however sick and twisted she is.

I still love the Church.

>>>I doubt the credibility of this article since the source is the far-left Associated Press. And, furthermore, just what is “The Vatican” [sic]? As I understand it (and I very well may be wrong), unless the Pope himself utters the words, there’s nothing official in a statement attributed to an entity as nebulous as “The Vatican”.>>>

Thank you for your well said reply.

This thinking person does “buy into religion” but it’s like “buying into food.” This doesn’t mean I put just any old thing into my mouth and chew and swallow it.

Thanks Fred!

Now, leave America and our Constitution alone, or there will be nobody to stop these fascists from oppressing our freedom of religion and religious expression either!

If you want to comment on the subject, how about something helpful, such as:

“The problem with the violence in America is that we have turned away from God, no longer posses a national moral compass to help us discern right from wrong.”

You see, then you would be sticking with what you know, instead of making uninformed comments.

Anyone who gets their religious news strictly from the AP and main media will be misled.

The media has its own belief system and it is anti religious.

The curch is not a leftis organization.

There are people within the Church who go against its teaching even and especially those hear the source. They are human. But it is a 2000 year old institution that does not run around chanfing with the times, much like our own country whose Constitution stands, whether those like this horrible man about to swear his allegiance to the Constitution and has to do it in a private ceremony which our wimps are allowing, want to adhere to it or not.

The constitution stands.
The AP will try to mess with the Church. We don’t have to buy their crap.

the AP will say nothing of the upcoming March for Life. there will be hundreds of thousands amdn they will be seen by the PRIZ He’ll be as jealous as Cassius.

Nothing.

Where is the AP on this?

Pope Benedict denounces gay marriage during his annual Christmas message

The Pope sent a clear message to gay rights activists who are celebrating gains made this year — the Vatican still thinks same-sex marriage is a ‘manipulation of nature.’

Oh Please!

First is wasn’t the Pope speaking.
Second, it has nothing to do with Faith and Morals.

If you don’t understand the very limited circumstances in which “Papal Infallibility applies, then please don’t bother commenting.

You are a thinker, unencumbered, I see. Not rote like most anti-Catholic zealots, stuck on, oh I don’t know, ignorance of all things Catholic, terrified by using reason.

I can’t imagine the present pope taking a radical anti-private-arms stance though he may preach for general peace.

You sound like Russians who used to say if Comrade Stalin only knew what was going on he would surely stop it, even as they were sent to the Gulag. Face it, the church is liberal on most issues like immigration, redistribution of wealth, and now guns.

Well, you and the Romans must mean something rather special by “morals” then.

It’s plain “immoral” to refuse on some supposed blanket principle not to defend yourself, a neighbor, or a country under any circumstance. And being of Christian “faith” doesn’t negate this.

If you and Rome intend to convey a special code meaning by “morals,” then of course I would be “ignorant” of that.

Why do Catholics capitalize "Church"?

I went to church almost every time it was open until 1970. My bunch never capitalized the word, even then.
