For golf legend Phil Mickelson, the low 60s makes for a great score on the links and a lousy tax rate in his home state of California.
Mickelson said drastic changes are ahead for him due to federal and California state tax increases that have pushed his tax rate to what he figures adds up to 62, 63 percent. The left-hander will talk more about his plans possibly moving out of California or even retiring altogether before his hometown Farmers Insurance Open, the San Diego-area event that begins Thursday at Torrey Pines.

Gee Phil...there is a reason why so many golfers now live in Florida....no state income tax (except for state employees)...and fewer taxes overall. And, when we call you Lefty.....its because of your swing...
I imagine there are some very nice places in Ponte Vedra Beach he might be interested in.
he’ll owe taxes to both states.
His nickname is “Lefty.” The post was just a little levity.
Dealing with the state tax collectors is a PITA. Rush Limbaugh hasn’t lived in NYS for 14 years and every year he’s audited by NYS to “prove” in a half dozen ways he did not earn money in NYS while living and working in FL. That’s how evil these tax parasites are.
Phil was eighth on the money list last year, making over $4,000,000 from golf, and certainly more in appearance fees. Golf Channel said yesterday that he made $46,000,000 last year.
We all should be so “washed up”.
Right, I understand, was just throwing a piece of trivia into the post.
Out of $46,000,000.00, this ONE person is giving out over $29,000,000.00 and they want more. This is just on earnings, do you think that is fair? Why doesn’t someone bother to thank the Phil Mickelsons of this country and thank them for the talent and ability to contribute and share wealth? Without them, this country would fold.
Mickelson is the most sought after golfer for corporate outings. He makes well over $100,000 for an all day corporate event with a clinic. His outgoing, yet humble personality and his conservative attitude makes him a natural fit for big bucks schmoozing and raises his annual income to over $50Million.
Too long, I agree. I’ve been a Mickelson fan for years. But still, $4 million per ain’t bad!
And if media attention is any indication it’ll be a long time before anyone says anything about Tiger being washed up.
Maybe he can move next door to his buddy Tiger!
How many players won more than the 3 times Tiger did in 2012?
I'm right handed in everything but billiards.
Why did Mick's dad teach him to "mirror image"?
ff
I’m right-handed but as a kid taught myself to bat left-handed (ala my idol, Stan Musial) and, consequently, play golf left-handed.
I do play tennis right-handed...
btw, in batting, the “power arm” should always be inside. So a right-handed person will have more strength batting left-handed.
Thnx for the link. Maybe some of the name players should bill the various States for helping to boost their economies.
I guess he didn’t tell us why his dad did it that way but I guess you could say it worked!
I’m right footed and I could never get up on a surfboard with my right foot on the back. As soon as I tried it with my left foot on the back I got up every time. Go figure.
