Japan Threatens To Fire On Chinese Fighters — China Says 'There Will Be No Second Shot'

When Chinese and Japanese fighters met for the first time over disputed islands in the East China Sea earlier this month, Japan promptly declared its right to fire tracers at China's jets.

Though met with outrage by China at the time, Japan continues promoting the live firing which Chinese military academics are calling the "first shot."

“Every country has procedures for how to deal with a violation of its territory that continues after multiple cautionary measures,” Japanese Defense Minister Itsunori Onodera said Wednesday when asked if tracer shots would be fired against intruding aircraft that refuse to change course. “We have response measures ready that are consistent with global standards.”

If Japan is using the talk of tracer fire to gauge Chinese reaction, the tactic worked.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry said Sunday his country is on "high alert" and that Japan and the U.S. are ignoring the fact that "the islands are China’s inherent territory."

Never to be left out, Chinese military academics quoted in Beijing's state-run media provided far more fiery replies:

“Japan’s desire to fire tracer warning shots as a way of frightening the Chinese is nothing but a joke that shows the stupidity, cruelty and failure to understand their own limitations,” Maj. Gen. Peng Guangqian of the Chinese Academy of Military Sciences was quoted saying by the China News Service and other state media.

“Firing tracer bullets is a type of provocation; it’s firing the first shot,” he said. “Were Japan to dare to fire tracers, which is to say fire the first shot, then China wouldn’t stint on responding and not allow them to fire the second shot.”

Japan is a six-day nuclear power. They have delivery vehicles, they have nuclear tech. The only thing they haven’t done is assembled a device.

My gut feeling tells me they already assembled a device, and plans for a test detonation. The only thing not assembled is the trigger and nuclear fuel. They probably code-labeled it "popcorn machine" to keep it secret. If things get really hot, they may need it in 15 minutes, not six days. Problem is, using nukes is not a solution for either country. But publicly announcing one via a test, when China is hostile may work in Japan's favor to get China to back off.

Barry is a threat to world peace. The Chinese suspect that he would not retaliate, so why not go after Japan?

If they suspected that Baraka would retaliate, then there would be much less threat of war.

Japan is a six-day nuclear power. They have delivery vehicles, they have nuclear tech. The only thing they haven’t done is assembled a device. According to some reports, it would take Japan six days at most to assemble a device, stick it on top of one of their space program’s rockets, and send someone the unwelcome wagon card.

Japan has no shortage of fissle material either.

The good news for Japan is that if Chinese weapons are anything like Chinese power tool, Japan has nothing to worry about.

Sadly, I expect that their weapons are "Iphone" quality. They are perfectly capable of manufacturing a perfectly stable, high quality technical product.

Or the regime will take them out to the woods and find out why not...

Manufacturing is one thing when done under the guidance of a 3rd party, but research, design and development are another matter all together. Still, if they can steal enough technological know how, it's a moot point.
