Bill Clinton to liberal donors: Don’t condescend to gun owners

Excellent advice but surely a total buzzkill for leftists, for whom the big gun-control push is at least as much a cultural struggle as it is a serious attempt to reduce mass shootings. Tightening the laws on background checks and banning high-capacity magazines might not stop future Sandy Hooks or Columbines but it will potentially force the yokels to behave in a bit more civilized fashion. Like they do in, say, Chicago.

Next he’ll be telling them not to use kids as props for their big gun-grab rituals. I thought this guy was supposed to be fun.

“Do not patronize the passionate supporters of your opponents by looking down your nose at them,” Clinton said.

“A lot of these people live in a world very different from the world lived in by the people proposing these things,” Clinton said. “I know because I come from this world.”…

“A lot of these people … all they’ve got is their hunting and their fishing,” he told the Democratic financiers. “Or they’re living in a place where they don’t have much police presence. Or they’ve been listening to this stuff for so long that they believe it all.”

Clinton closed his remarks with a warning to big Democratic donors that ultimately many Democratic lawmakers will be defeated if they choose to stand with the president.

“Do not be self-congratulatory about how brave you [are] for being for this” gun control push, he said. “The only brave people are the people who are going to lose their jobs if they vote with you.”

The hunting/fishing line is a nice example of the difference between Clinton and Obama. When The One gets behind closed doors with like-minded ideologues, he’ll happily patronize rural culture by giving you his pet theory on why the bitter-clingers cling to their guns and Bibles so bitterly. Clinton won’t give you “why.” He’ll imply it (“all they’ve got”) but that extra bit of condescension, where hunting and religion and opposition to amnesty are supposedly all a byproduct of economic frustration, just isn’t there. You already know this if you watched the Democratic convention last year, but Clinton’s far the superior retail politician.

More good advice from the Big Dog about not overreaching on guns: “All these polls that you see saying the public is for us on all these issues — they are meaningless if they’re not voting issues.” I.e. it’s quite possible there’s a reckoning coming for Democrats in the midterms if anything major happens in Congress. Via Mediaite, here’s Shep Smith not caring much about that at all.

“Bill Clinton to liberal donors: Don’t condescend to gun owners”. Well Bill why would you think that your fellow liberals who treat gun owners with condescension would ever do otherwise. Maybe the Rhodes Scholar, that never was, is confused!

Thanks SeekAndFind. Here are his condescending remarks about condescension:
"A lot of these people live in a world very different from the world lived in by the people proposing these things... I know because I come from this world... A lot of these people ... all they've got is their hunting and their fishing... Or they're living in a place where they don't have much police presence. Or they've been listening to this stuff for so long that they believe it all... Do not be self-congratulatory about how brave you [are] for being for this... The only brave people are the people who are going to lose their jobs if they vote with you."

Have you noticed how they’ve come out in the open in their war against Americans. Now they openly tell their people to fight Americans, to turn on their own.

Creepy that no one seems to notice an Administration that is advertising its war on the people on a daily basis.

Yes, at least, and in fact I'd say it's primarily a cultural struggle for them.

It will be interesting to see if "Anonymous" has integrity with regard to their stand on obama's gun control plans.

It will also be interesting to see if the eGOP has any integrity with regard to their swearing the oath of office, and enlistment if former military.

After thinking it through, I think I trust Anonymous more than I do the average eGOP drone.

obama has rolled the eGOP easily and at will, so there's little reason to think they won't roll over some more for him, especially if they can get back to spending big like when GWB was prez.

Every word of this from Clinton was excellent political advice. He knows first hand what can happen to legislators that support gun/magazine bans. They would ignore him at their peril. (I almost hope they do, as long as any legislation doesn’t pass.)

Thank you kindly both of you – Perhaps my Googling skills are a bit lacking.

I tried searching on https://ixquick.com/

But came up short – thanks once again.

Thank goodness it isn’t condescending to describe gun rights advocates as huntin’, fishin’ cretins from a remake of Deliverance, so stupid they actually believe in “this stuff” (Constitutional law, natural rights, and even this howler, the duty to oppose a tyrannical government?) Bill Clinton always contrives to have his cigar and smoke it too.

Clinton taught the Democrats to shut their mouths on gun control, long enough to get a lot of Congressmen and Senators elected who would not have been otherwise. Sounds like Bill might sense that the correct analogy for Obama’s Inaugural Speech was not Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address, but Lee’s order to General Pickett. It is our job to make sure it is.

RE: Clinton taught the Democrats to shut their mouths on gun control, long enough to get a lot of Congressmen and Senators elected who would not have been otherwise.

I think he might also have taught Democrats the art of “evolving” one’s belief.

When Clinton first run for the Presidency, he was adamant about not wanting to raise taxes to solve the then, deficit problem. Guess what? After he got elected, He RAISED taxes saying ( actually lying ) that he did not realize how bad the deficit was until he came to office.

Obama learned his lesson well. He was against gay marriage before he “evolved” in his beliefs.

So, henceforth, when someone lies while running for office to conceal his real agenda, he can always use the word “EVOLVED”.
