Beyoncé did not sing the national anthem live at President Obama’s inauguration.
Millions of viewers around the world were stunned by the singer’s spectacular rendition of the anthem but The Times has learnt that she was lip-syncing to a pre-recorded backing track.
A spokeswoman for the Marine Corp Band Kristen DuBois said it was standard procedure to record a backing track and Beyoncé decided shortly before her performance to rely on the studio version rather

Not surprised. There was nothing truthful about that spectacle yesterday. I figure she doesn’t know the words and didn’t want to be embarrassed.
She probably couldn’t remember the words and they couldn’t set up a teleprompter in time for her to read from.

There were a couple of bad notes. They were pretty far off too, not just the usual vocal gymnastics today’s singers wrongly consider music.
Who is Beyonce? Should I know? Is she important?
That’s pretty much what I thought too. I’ve never seen or he ard her and I wouldn’t know her if she came to the door to borrow a cup of sugar.

If it’s standard procedure for “live” musical performances to be recorded, why have the “live” performance at all? Wouldn’t it be a lot cheaper to just play the recording?
This is a little like the bicyclists’ drug-use issue: if they’re all doing it, everyone knows, and the audience doesn’t give a hoot, did it really happen?
It occurs to me this all trash talk from a bunch of racists, like those TEA Party people

Most likely she had to do this because she relies on the auto pitch button in the recording studio to not go flat or sharp. It takes true talent to stay on pitch and most of the manufactured “talent” in this country rely on auto pitch that is impossible in a live performance.
Then we can't possibly have any "poverty" issues in our country.
Here’s what I’’m piecing together from various reports. Correct this record if you know it’s not accurate.
1. The band recorded a sound track ahead of time which is standard procedure. If the weather had been horribly bad (really cold, rainy, snowy, etc.). Woodwind instruments could get ruined and brass and woodwind instruments would be impossible to play in tune. This is a fall back plan in that case.
2. The performance was supposed to be live - both bands and Beyonce. The weather cooperated and the band DID play live.
3. Beyonce did not show up for the dress rehearsal on the Capitol steps a couple of days ago.
4. At the last minute, Beyonce decided to record her singing and lip synch instead of singing live.
5. On Sunday night, Beyonce recorded her singing to the previously recorded soundtrack of the piece made by the band.
6. On Monday, the band played live, but Beyonce lip synched.
No big deal, IMO, but aspersions are being placed on the band and they did everything according to procedure and accommodated Beyonce’s wishes.
