Rubio Shockingly Convinced Rush Limbaugh That His Immigration Plan Was 'Admirable And Noteworthy'
Business Insider ^ | 01/29/2013 | Brett LoGiurato

Posted on 01/29/2013 11:20:10 AM PST by SeekAndFind

Republican Sen. Marco Rubio — one of the bipartisan group of eight Senators proposing an overhaul of the nation's immigration system — managed to make a believer of conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh.

On his radio show Monday, Limbaugh dismissed the plan as blanket amnesty and said it was "up to me and Fox News" to stop it.

But Limbaugh took a different tone on Tuesday when speaking with Rubio directly.

Limbaugh opened the segment by asking Rubio, "Why are we doing this now?"

"The key is this was going to be an issue," Rubio said. "I thought it was critically important that we outline the key principles." He said he doesn't want the immigration debate to be "defined" by President Barack Obama and Democrats.

Rubio confirmed that he wouldn't support any bill that doesn't attach conditions for border security in exchange for a path to citizenship. Limbaugh said that he thinks Democrats don't want border security because they want more voters to come in that typically vote Democratic. "I am confident that given a fair chance, I can convince most Americans that limited government and free enterprise is better for them. Because that's the reason that they came here," Rubio said.

Limbaugh said he doesn't see where there's any common ground between Republicans and Obama.

Rubio said that the President has an "important decision."

"I'm not going to be part of a bidding war to see who can come up with the most lenient path forward," Rubio said. He repeats that he won't support a bill without any enforcement "triggers."

Limbaugh then asked Rubio whether he thinks Obama really wants reform or if he keeps wanting to use it as a political wedge issue.

"That's precisely why I thought it was important to get our principles out there early,"

The only major talk show host that “gets it” regarding this amnesty snowjob is Michael Savage. He’s been discussing it since ‘94 when Rush wouldn’t touch it with a ten foot pole. Truth detector my butt.

Rubio should just prove that the current laws can be enforced.

Passing more legislation won't help.

Those enforcement ‘triggers’ need to be in place before any other action is discussed. Every time they say that they will do ‘such and such after’ the amnesty it never gets done. The borders need to be secure first. 1986 showed that promises don’t get done. And that was only 3 million illegals. Now we’re talking 11-20 million and who ever else comes over the border between now and then. We need to protect our country and way of life.

Translation : Rubio’s going to talk the ‘new Americans’ (aka illegals) that cutting taxes on the rich is better for them then Obama-care freebees, food stamps, birth control, free school,.medicare social security.....even goodies for their own kids...

Oh Rubio talks so sweet, just perfect for the braindead Rush and Hannity.

Maybe Rubio should have convinced some of the current Hispanic Americans of this BEFORE the last election so we could believe him that he can do it.

Rush said that the ‘80’s Immigration Bill was chock full of enforcement tools, but the legislation was not enforced. So, if Reagan’s DOJ didn’t enforce that legislation, why are we supposed to believe 2013 legislation will be enforced by this DOJ?

The immigrants USED to come here for free enterprise, like Rubio’s family, but now they just come for free food, healthcare, husing, education, everything. I know a few decades ago in TX that them that I knew just wanted opportunity for a better life. But that was before we got forced into giving them free services.

Rush is doing the high wire act here. He recognizes that Rubio has a good shot to be the GOP candidate in 16 and does not wish to be on his bad side. He did challenge Rubio on a few points and let any contention between them to quietly go away. His commentary was not as enthusiastic as the headline reads regarding the proposed legislation. I believe he said that Rubio is new to the senate ways and may get an education.

Rubio and the ‘Gang of Eight’ have been misrepresenting their plan, awful as it is.

They would have a panel making a recommendation about when the border is secure, but there is nothing in the law that would require the feds to wait for even that subjective standard. They could go ahead and move up the granting of citizen whenever and however they want. E.g. Obama could simply approve it whenever he wanted to.

I thought Rush was respectful to Rubio's opinion, but was politely dismissive at the end when he somewhat sarcastically said in essence... "Good Luck With That!"

I can't forget how hard Rush worked to block and reverse Dubya's misguided effort in 2007 and I came away from that interview today not believing that Rush had changed his mind but that he still felt some admiration for Marco's talents as a conservative communicator.

I think Rubio’s case is right on...I am not sure his ideas won’t be morphed into something totally different by Shumer, Obama and Reid by the end of this. In fact, history tells us, the plan won’t work the way it is laid out. The fact is, our immigration laws need to be updated, our border security needs improvement, and we have to do something to deal with the illegals here that will involve making many legal workers. A way to get them into the standard immigration process once they are legalized as workers is fine with me as long is it offers nothing for free and nothing ahead of legal immigrants. It is a tricky road, but generally, I think Rubio is on the right path.

Rubio’s plan is stupid. It does not matter what guarantees are given about border security. they will no be implemented or enforced while the bargained amnesty will be wholeheartedly promulgated, implemented, and enhanced to include essentially anyone south of the Rio Grande who wants to come.

Rubio’s Rush interview was compelling, but Obama is a scofflaw. Getting Obama to enforce tighter controls on the border is likely a non-starter let alone the laws that are already in the books.

Rubio retorted to Rush that Obama will not always be president.

Anyone who believes that this Obama/Dem-run government is going to enforce ANY of the regulations and requirements that are written into any legislative bill is an abject fool. It will become wide-open amnesty the moment before the ink from Obama’s pen is dry.

Republicans that go for this are either idiots or, as often the case nowadays, closet big-government statists that are in ideological allignment with the Dems and working with the ruling-class to further disenfranchise if not obliterate the tea-party/Constitutional conservative voice from the political process.

Rush is promoting Rubio for POTUS candidate.

Rubio's parents were both Cuban nationals and not America Citizens when he was born so he's disqualified from the office of POTUS.

The Constitution requires that he be a Natural Born Citizen. To be considered a Natural Born citizen 8 U.S. Code, Section 1401 requires that the mother be an American citizen who has lived in the U.S. for five years or more, at least two of those years after the age of 14. If the mother fits those criteria, the child is a U.S. citizen at birth, regardless of the father's nationality.

Both of Rubio's parents were Cuban when he was born. He can never be the POTUS.

Illegal aliens are government growth hormone.

30 million illegals is enough to create some 50 new primarily democrat congressional districts with all the costs, pork, earmarks, entitlements, and liberal votes associated with them.

Anyone who supports amnesty and calls themselves a conservative is a liar.

I have come to the conclusion that Rush is basically the consummate bullshit artist. He can offer simultaneous tepid praises and concerns on both sides of an issue, and then people hear and amplify the parts they want to hear, and Rush looks like he’s being fair and balanced. It’s all crap. He should stick to the free market economy mantra. Amnesty is a lie and a trap that will destroy the country, and people wonder why the GOP is going down the shitter.

How ‘bout finish the wall, read the 14A properly (no anchor babies), show enforcement of current laws over, say, 5 years, THEN we’ll talk about ‘reform’.

If THIS one doesn’t fly, who’s responsible? The taxpayers, min. wage workers, etc.

And I’m calling bullshit on 11M; such a lowball number.

Rubio laid out a compelling case. Not convinced he is correct.

[Article] "I am confident that given a fair chance, I can convince most Americans that limited government and free enterprise is better for them. Because that's the reason that they came here," Rubio said. [Emphasis supplied.]

Rubio is not correct. We are not talking about Americans here; we are talking about Mexicans. Mexican nationals, Mexican citizens, Mexican scions born in the U.S. but raised as monoglot Spanish-speakers in tight familial and community surrounds that reproduce about 75% of the Mexican cultural experience here in the U.S., from imported Mexican soccer matches (want to see Chivas vs. Cruz Azul, or Pachuca vs. America? just dial up one of the half-dozen or so Houston HDTV channels that are exclusively Spanish-language) to 24-hour infomercials on getting legal representation to challenge deportation orders, featuring the Mexican lawyer Manuel Solis, the Mexican immigrant is never strongly challenged to take up the language and culture of the United States.

Therefore, for the Mexican immigrant, the Stateside barrio is a Mexican cultural exarchate offering wage arbitrage between hte high-cost, high-wage North American economy and what he had back home, and it does not demand anything from him in terms of fealty. Neither does it challenge strong Mexican cultural conservatism, which is a central feature of their society.

Mexican grandfathers who voted for the PRI party or the PRD -- both of them descended from Mexico's Communist revolution -- rejoice in grandsons and great-grandsons whose political outlook is solidly consistent with their own; and those descendants will have descendants of their own who will vote for the PRD-PRI-Democratic Party socialist-Communist continuum as if they had never left home.

THAT is what Marco Rubio does not get.

South American and Central American and Cuban immigrants behave like immigrants; Mexican immigrants behave like Mexicans at home. That's the difference, and that is what Lyndon Johnson knew that Rubio does not, when he blew up the cofferdam holding back a tidal wave of Mexican immigration.

Bump for agreement -- the number is more like twice or three times that many; and when you throw in all the anchor-kids born here in the last 40 years, you may be talking upward of 35 million.

One of the first things I saw when I moved to Houston in 1979 was a Mexican man, obviously a laborer, leading his wife along the sidewalk on a busy six-lane commuter street. She was about eight months pregnant with a belly like a basketball. Eleven million my @ss.

No, he isn't. He's getting played by McPain and Durbin the Turban .... or he's playing us on behalf of RiNO Central, which has always been in favor of wage-breaking, unlimited immigration.

Some cookie from an employers' wage-busting NGO was on Nightly Business Report talking about the dire need for wage-busting job-begging immigrants. RWE :”Rubio’s not even going to try to talk them out of their affirmative-action goodies—which they will not vote against”

The amnesty group use the same talking points,
Mccain on Sunday said something similar to what Rubio said, that he ‘believes’ that illegals come here for a better life and opportunities to 'work hard' and will be drawn to conservative values, as if he knows what they are.

More sweet sounding pretty talk that says nothing,, for the gullible.

The libs LOVE Mccain again.
