Shooting Range Bans Police Department In Protest Of City Council Gun Bill

BURLINGTON, Vt. (CBS Connecticut) — A gun range has banned a Vermont police department from training there in protest to the city council drafting legislation to ban assault-style firearms.

The Stowe Reporter reports that the Lamoille Valley Fish and Game Club decided to ban the Burlington Police Department because the executive board feels that the Burlington City Council wants to take away their Second Amendment rights.

We “can no longer support the City of Burlington with such a prejudice against our club and its members, and has voted to suspend the City’s use of our range for its law enforcement. This action is effective immediately,” Robert Boivin, chairman of the club’s executive board, wrote in a letter, according to the Reporter.

Boivin tells the paper that this is not a “bullying tactic” because the club has let the police department train for free at the range for the past couple of years.

“We felt our rights were being infringed upon,” Boivin told the Reporter.

The Burlington Police Department told WPTZ-TV in a statement that this is an unfortunate incident.

“It is unfortunate that this important and much-needed community dialogue regarding gun control currently under way in the city of Burlington and across the nation has resulted in this action,” Deputy Chief Andy Higbee told the station.

WPTZ-TV reports the police department will currently train at the Ethan Allen Firing Range.

The city council’s bill to ban assault-style firearms and large-capacity magazines requires approval by the Vermont Legislature and the measure won’t reach voters until March 2014.

No, they've banned the po. The po work for the city, state and feds.

I think the rest of us are welcome. Applause to the operators of the range.

Ban employees of any government entity that supports gun control from all private ranges.

Refuse to sell weapons or ordnance to any government entity that supports gun control.

Yes, that's right. No guns for BATF, FBI, NYPD, etc. ad nauseaum.

Where do all of these Liberal Mayors think their Police Departments are going to purchase Police Service Guns and Ammo from if they have their way and succeed in putting Gun Manufactures out of Business?
Law Enforcement just isn't a big enough market share to keep the doors open.

I don’t want to give the librat hoplophobic entities any ideas here, but they might just pass a tax increase to fund the building of their own range.

It’s how they roll.

I'm guessing stage 2 of this game is a revocation of the business license for the range.

Just the opposite happened near here. There was a gravel pit on city property that the police shot at. They allowed the public to use the same pit for many years. It was a very safe place to shoot.

Then the police got themselves an “official” range. The first thing that happened at the old pit range was a NO SHOOTING or FIREARMS ALLOWED sign went up.

They won't take away gun rights or restrict them in Vt. We're a paradox, but we'll keep our 2cnd Amendment rights, thank you.

This one still has me chuckling:

I believe that the state Constitution in VT requires able bodied men to posses weapons...?
