WASHINGTON -- U.S. officials say Defense Secretary Leon Panetta is poised to extend some benefits to the same-sex partners of military members.
The policy change would come about 16 months after the Pentagon repealed its ban on openly gay service.
Officials say Panetta has not made a final decision on which benefits will be included, but the Pentagon is likely to allow same-sex partners to have access to the on-base commissary and other military subsidized stores, as well as health and welfare programs.

At the (large, multinational) company I retired from, the only requirement to sign up a gay partner for benefit coverage was a signed affadavit from that person. Not a very high bar to get over.
Of course that brings a lot of complaints from unmarried heterosexual couples who then feel entitled to the same thing.
I AM SO DANGED GLAD I AM OUT OF THE MILITARY!! THANKFULLY the Good Lord had me retire before Bill the Commie Klinton came into office and I did not have to serve under that puke or the Fairy in the White House and all those homo loving officers now in the Pentagon.
