THE SOLDIER’S CODE _________________________________________________________________________________________

Gen Dwight D. Eisenhower addresses troops of the 101st Airborne Division
5Jun1944 prior to D-Day Normandy
_________________________________________________________________________________________

The Soldier’s Code _________________________________________________________________________________________

1) I am an American fighting man. I serve in the forces which guard my country and our way of life. I am prepared to give my life in their defense.

2) I will never surrender of my own free will. If in command, I will never surrender my men while they still have the means to resist.

3) If I am captured, I will continue to resist by all means available. I will make every effort to escape and aid others to escape. I will accept neither parole nor special favors from the enemy.

4) If I become a prisoner of war, I will keep faith with my fellow prisoners. I will give no information or take part in any action which might be harmful to my comrades. If I am senior, I will take command. If not, I will obey the lawful orders of those appointed over me, and will back them up in every way.

5) When questioned, should I become a prisoner of war, I am bound to give only name, rank, service number, and date of birth. I will evade answering further questions to the utmost of my ability. I will make no oral or written statements disloyal to my country and its allies, or harmful to their cause.

6) I will never forget that I am an American fighting man, responsible for my actions, and dedicated to the principles which made my country free. I will trust in my God and in the United States of America.

2 and half hours late, but Welcome Aboard, Mac.

Hope you made some progress with the dreadful insurance “persons”. *HUGS*

Tuesday at work turned into a circus day....many weird tangents, but I finally had everything under control before I left.

I think we're making progress, but those soulless cyphers are tough to pin down.

I'm up late working on a couple of my own projects - need to get some things down on paper. I have some things to impart to my siblings and children about the life I've led and what I think it all means.

It's amazing how things pop into your head that you haven't thought of since they occurred several decades ago - and whose significance was not apparent at the time.

As Clarence said in "It's A Wonderful Life" - Strange, isn't it? Each man's life touches so many other lives. When he isn't around he leaves an awful hole, doesn't he?

A good project to be working on....things pop into your head for a reason. Get them down on paper, or maybe onto a recorder.

I've at least gotten some of the important stuff down. My family history is rather large and, although we have been commoners, some of us have some interesting stories to tell.

I'm going to turn in now - if I don't I'll probably end up greeting the dawn. Must get some rest. The cortisone injection I received yesterday appears to have been a success. I have a follow-up with the doctor in April. Weight is dropping - hope I can continue on that line.

Good night and God bless you good, Kathy!
