It was a picture dredged up to prove the assertion the President had made in January to the breezy effect that the President is indeed acquainted with firearms, since, as he stated (roughly paraphrased), We've often shot skeet when we're at Camp David.
It took a few days, where conservative media baited the press secretary Jay Carney, for proof, any proof, and where the Democrats either pooh-poohed the need for proof, since the President rarely turns out to have accuracy as his first arrow out of the quiver, or they prayed-uncharacteristically -- that there were, somewhere, please Heaven, something to show that this was not another You didn't build that.
Herewith, a top ten listing of what makes one suspect the photo was bogus, cooked up with Photoshop or entirely composited, like the President's one "composite girlfriend" in his account of his 'dating life' before he became noteworthy and flew right into the radar. (And strange it is that there aren't women pouring out of the woodwork with pictures of their keeping company with the pre-President of his Columbia or Occidental days):
1. The President has no shoulder guard for recoil. No shoulder pad: He probably expected to "shoot" one single shot. And that was that. No need for a cumbersome padding for his shoulder. Not exactly a crackerjack constant practitioner, despite his avowal.
2. He is wearing sunglasses. Dark, tinted, sleek, stylized. Not what you wear to shoot skeet or any firearms practice. The correct protective gear is clear plastic goggles, usually rubbery and strapped around the head. Not Foster Grants.
3. The awkwardness of the President's stance leads one to believe he was insufficiently tutored. Or he had no idea what he was doing. And there were no handy-dandy experts around to correct his body language.

is that even a shotgun? it looks more like a rife shot to me
what is that jet of smoke coming out the side?
it does not look like a pump-action shotgun- is it a single shot?
Virtually everything is fake about this dork.
Everything.
And I hope and pray that sooner or later, he is fully exposed for being the quota baby talentless piece of excrement that he is.
Some have said this picture was fake because Obama had nowhere to put the shells needed to reload. These people forget that Obama has Secret Service servants to reload for him.
everything about liberalism is fake
The left handed, right handed thing is probably not an indicator. I am left handed yet when I fire a weapon it is right handed. Made my Marine drill instructor a little crazy way back when but that is the way I’ve always fired weapons.
The thing about it being at Camp David indicates to me it is all staged since the POS kenyan despises Camp David and never wants to go there.
Nothing in the photo looks genuine except maybe the trees.
Kudlow hammered 0 about this on last night's show. Some dim Dim tried to argue that he could be shooting a second shot straight ahead. Larry was having no part of it.
Sunglasses on a cloudy day or late in the afternoon, no way.
The author says "The correct protective gear is clear plastic goggles, rubbery and strapped around the head. Show up at the local skeet field and someone will have to ask if you are going snorkeling?
His shotgun is aimed straight ahead, where all skeet shooters we know of, including ourselves, follow the arc of the clay once the shooter yells “Pull!” ....
I do not usually stick up for Obama but there is a picture of the Kennedy’s skeet shooting there and the angle of their shot gun is about the same. But there is a fence and smaller path around them than this picture.
Someone said that the smoke leaving on the right side of the barrel should not have had time to float forward due to wind unless it is a very windy day.
Also I am amazed that there is not a port on the left side of the barrel to even out the forces. But maybe there isn’t on this shotgun.
#11. Again, the shotgun is ported on both sides, yet smoke is only coming out of the right side.
5.56mm
Smoke is from the compensator ports
What is hinky is there is only a choke cylinder in the upper barrel, as if he was only planning on a single shot.
Also excessive smoke for smokeless powder, which suggests it may be a low charge blackpowder blank round.
Other than that...
The smoke coming out of the side port has no velocity. It appears to gently waft upwards.
It’s an over and under shotgun! Note the operating lever on top!!
That’s because he’s shooting at a peasant....
[Mel Brooks reference]
The author of this piece doesn’t seem to know much more about shotgunning than the anointed one. Rubbery goggles?
I was at the range the other day and I watched the smoke- the President’s smoke cloud looks a little odd, usually there is more of a sideways component as the gas escapes from in back of the wad.
Could this have been a blank, with no or little wadding?
In the picture it looks like someone blowing smoke down the barrel.
I’m just an amateur photographer, but I marvel at the millisecond timing exhibited by the one who took this shot, to get it just at the moment of firing, with the absolute maximum visual drama of the muzzle smoke.
Wow. Unbelievable timing.
It is a browning Citori, 20 guage, 28 guage, or 410. None of these are generally used by men to shoot skeet.
what is that jet of smoke coming out the side?
Some shot guns are ported on the sides. (Have holes in the side to reduce recoil).
Most are portred on both sides but occasionally you do see one ported on only one side.
That being said, smokeless (modern) powder does not smoke that much.
it does not look like a pump-action shotgun- is it a single shot?
It is a double barrel over under (frequently abbreviated to O/U) as opposed to a side by side. Many, but not all, have different chokes (restrictions on barrel diameter) for taking shots a different distances.
It’s a Browning Citori double barreled, over-under shotgun.
(11) Gasses should also be seen from the ports on the left side of the gun. Either the gun is malfunctioning (plugged ports are extremely dangerous) or the gasses seen on the right side were added to the photo (’shopped in).
(12) Overall, there is way too much “smoke”. Today’s smokeless powder is exactly that. This amount of smoke leads me to conclude that the load he is firing appears to be a non-projectile load; a “blank”.
