BACKGROUND: Several complaints went viral over the past month when employees reported to the Command that AAFES was not cleaning and inspecting its soda machines properly leading to an infestation of maggots. Finally, some employees took pictures and posted. This prompted the Command to do an impromptu inspection and shut the doors. Here is their official statement earlier in the day:
"Regarding the recent post about the AAFES Burger King: I met with AAFES Manager Jonathan Bright this morning. Mr. Bright assured me the area has been cleaned and that Veterinarian Services inspected and cleared the facility. Additionally, Command Sgt. Major Latter and I will be going over to the Burger King this week. AAFES has been, and will continue to be, a great partner, and I have every confidence that they take your safety as seriously as I do. Also, I want to remind everybody about my open door policy every Monday from 4 to 6 p.m.
VR COL Edward C. Rothstein."
Later, apparently, the Commander decided to inspect the AAFES BK and this was the next official statement:
"Following an inspection today by myself, Command Sgt. Maj. Thomas Ladder, Public Health Command and Veterinary Services, I have ordered the closing of the AAFES Burger King, located at 2794 Rose Street.
The decision to close the facility was made so that it can be thoroughly cleaned and re-inspected. The Installation and AAFES are working closely together to ensure that the dining facility is re-opened as quickly as possible.
As always, the health and safety of the Fort Meade community is a top priority.
V/R COL Edward C. Rothstein"
This is unacceptable. Not only is AAFES well known for it s horrible customer service, but this is beyond the pale.

Why not name this store “Obama King”? Sounds like his regime, “Uncleanliness and Maggots”.
Gee, step up folks and have an “Obama Burger”. No meat, just BullS**t.
Would you like Fries with that? It may be the only thing you can afford to eat in the future under this King, if you can afford the gas to power your car to get there.

Maggots? Did Obama and his crew drop in?

I remember being stationed at a base so remote that we had to drive 3 hours to get to another base with a Burger King. It was like going to civilization, maggots and all.
But yes they should clean this place up. I’m sure the Col and Sgt Mgr will get it done.

Its gotta be bad if you have to call in a veterinarian to inspect a restaurant......LOL! Army veterinarians have as one of their primary duties the inspection of food and food facilities. They do this for all of the services.

That’s disgusting! I worked in restaurants for three years and ran Fast Food for twenty two and have never seen anything like this. The only way this happens is through sheer neglect, laziness and lack of respect for yourself and your customers! I think the Marines might want to consider a Vietnam era response to these people, I believe it was called Fragging.

A veterinarian would have far more health training than the average health inspector.

I recall being at an airport (Portland, IIRC), and I was in line at the Burger King.
The "chefs" were visible to us peeps in line, and what I saw caused me to avoid Burger King, thereafter.
The cook, dutifully wearing latex gloves, cleaned his ear with his forefinger, examined the result, then continued with his cooking and burger-building work.
Exception or rule? Hopefully the exception, but I choose never to return, thank-you.

Good God after seeing that picture makes me not want to eat at any fast food restaurant again and buy my own food and cook it.
Was watching a show with Gordon Ramsay where he goes in and helps people with restaurants that are going down hill and last week we saw one where the tomato source had mold in it.
To: Seaplaner
They don’t wear gloves in this BK if I remember right.

The USAF Veterinary Services are responsible and have been inspecting food facilities for the past 65 years. They used to inspect the food prior to the military buying it, the processing of the food, and the dissemination of the food to the dining halls and food facilities. Jimmy Carter destroyed much of the USAF Veterinary Services by a Presidential action back in 1978. The USAF Veterinary Services as they were originally intended were disbanded in 1982. Now the food inspection facilities may or may not be inspected monthly by an enlisted member of the veterinary services and an officer of the medical service corps. No longer are the food inspection officers entirely veterinarians. Veterinarians have the education and epidemiological background to do the job of sanitation, moreso than any other career categories.
To: nckerr
Yes, that picture of those maggots would suppress a appetite.
Then again ? if the economy where to collapse and there was no food you would be amazed in what people would eat.

Well, kind of makes sense from a historical perspective, I mean after all what do you do after you’ve put the horse down ;)

On his last show I saw he was up in Pennsylvania where the restaurant had mold in it’s tomato sauce.
