ANAHEIM (CBSLA.com) — An African American family sued Disneyland after the actor who portrayed the White Rabbit character from “Alice in Wonderland” allegedly refused to hug or touch their children because of their skin color.

Jason and Annelia Black of San Diego County said the person in the rabbit costume also acted impatiently as their young kids posed for a picture at the Anaheim theme park.

The Blacks, however, said it was a different scene when a Caucasian family arrived.

i realize it can nothing... as i said, i don't know why the differences in the pics... i thought maybe the employee takes a cue from how the kids interact with him when he decides if he should touch or not... if a kid comes up to him and hugs him, of course he will hug back... if a kid comes up and just stands next to him, i can see that he would respect that kid's space...

i know this holds no weight here, but as a "Mexican-American" who was born and raised in the US, whose parents and grandparents and great grandparents and even further back were born and raised here, and who was taught that we are AMERICAN period, i do know what it's like to be treated differently... and i have seen some injustices simply because of ethnicity... it's an awful feeling... btw--i am not saying that's what the case is here... and i do know "white" people expeience it too...

i do realize i am "Caucasian."

Prove it

That's not their objective. The entitlement culture is looking for a cash settlement. Out of court, of course.

Disney is Racist! The should be closed for good.

The entire company should be broken up and sold off and all money should be split between people who are decedents of people who were numbered among the oppressed minorities here in the USA.

My lineage is:

1. Native American - Check

2. Irish- Check

3. Welsh - Check

4. Italian - Check

I get 4 Shares then!

often these character costumes have only a view for the wearer that is through the mouth of the costume.

There are set written policies regarding the size of children with whom the picture is taken. little kids are different from BIG kids.

also, sometimes the issue is not hugging the kids but positioning them to be in view and out of the danger of tripping the character.

About 25 years ago I saw a small black girl attack the Tasmanian Devil at a theme park. Wished I had a video camera.

I guess if I were these black parents and some park employee treated my kids badly, I'd be pissed.

It'd probably be hard to prove this, even if they video recorded it. Short of the rabbit tossing the "N-bomb" at the little darlings, there's nothing overt here at all, it's all a matter of perception, and pretty hard to prove what motivated Mr. White Rabbit. I mean, don't they like white rabbits?

Not to be be cynical, but I'm sure they know Disney will pay big to quiet this annoyance.

I guess the fact that their kids all needed a diaper change never entered into it.

Yep, awhile back I started intentionally NOT saying anything to black cashiers during store purchase transactions just to see if they say thank you or anything else for that matter..............turns out about 75% of the time they won’t say thank you, have a nice day, kiss my butt or anything. But if theres a black behind you next in line, it’s like a family reunion or something.

I don’t know.....I think Disney offered the couple compensation for their perceived feelings, and they rejected it in lieu of legal action and a bigger possible settlement.

It is near impossible to make a judgement on the intent or feelings of the character. In the video of the boy affected, I got the impression that he’s just parroting what the parents wanted him to say, but that is just conjecture on my part. To me, it seemed rehearsed.

I agree with everything you wrote. As an Italian American I’ve had people say all kinds of stuff to me, over the years. The question is do I need or deserve state, federal and local laws to control everyone’s behavior toward me? In the end, I have to vote no.

A lawsuit over whether a rabbit touched your kid? I think not.

And btw, this is liberal Disney, of “gay days” fame.

My thought is that it would take a pretty cold person (the character) to not do their job and “make nice” for the customers. I don’t care if they are black, brown, yellow, red or white. I certainly wouldn’t translate any feelings I had one way or the other about it to the children. They only know what they see on TV and in movies. There is no good that can come from making that impression different.

It’s a shame. Sometimes humans aren’t always at their best. Maybe there were ‘vibes’. I don’t know. We’d have to be privy to what the management and employee resolved, but that likely isn’t going to happen. The parents were offered a settlement and decline in lieu of lawsuit; we’ll see what happens next.

Will be absolutely hysterical if Disney produces the mascot at a press conference and...

and....

and...

He’s black!

You are so right... I don't think whites have much respect for themselves if they do not put a stop to this stupidly.. I have always had black friends and we were very close but even they are starting to get on my nerves..What more do they want they have more money than most whites getting it with no talent because they are black suing anyone they can get a buck out of..Taking jobs they cannot do..
