There have been 65,376,373 background checks completed for Americans purchasing firearms since February of 2009, the first full month of Barack Obama's presidency.

According to data compiled by the FBI, the number of Americans purchasing guns has skyrocketed since Obama was elected.

In 2009, there were 13,984,953 background checks for Americans buying firearms. If we subtract the 1,212,860 checks completed in the month of January, the total checks for the year under Obama were 12,772,090.

For 2010, background checks totaled 14,320,489. In 2011, checks were 16,336,732, and in 2012, 19,463,832. Background checks for the month of January 2013 were 2,483,230.

This totals 65,376,373 background checks completed since President Obama's first full month in office, or 44,748 background checks per day!

By comparison, the number of gun purchases in Obama's first term is 91.1% higher than President George W. Bush's first-term total of 34,214,066 background checks.

RE :”The Pope resigned and now Obama can out do the Pope’s lead and resign and go one step further, leave -— leave for another planet.”

He says he has more to do before leaving, he will tell you all about it tonight.

“It’s only 91% because gun makers can’t make them any faster.”

Linked from elsewhere:

http://directorblue.blogspot.com/2013/01/update-status-of-gun-industry.html Status of gun industry
Smith & Wesson-is running at Full capacity making 300+ guns/day-mainly M&P pistols. They are unable to produce any more guns to help with the shortages.

RUGER: Plans to increase from 75% to 100% in the next 90 days.

FNH: Moving from 50% production to 75% by Feb 1st and 100% by March 1. Remington-Maxed out!

Armalite: Maxed out.

DPMS: Can't get enough parts to produce any more product.

COLT: Production runs increasing weekly...bottle necked by Bolt carrier's.

LWRC:Making only black guns, running at full capacity...can't get enough gun quality steel to make barrels.

Springfield Armory: Only company who can meet demand but are running 30-45 days behind.

AMMO: Every caliber is now Allocated! We are looking at a nation wide shortage of all calibers over the next 9 months. All plants are producing as much ammo as possible w/ of 1 BILLION rounds produced weekly. Most is military followed by L.E. and civilians are third in line.

MAGPUL is behind 1 MILLION mags, do not expect any large quantities of magpul anytime soon.

RELOADERS... ALL Remington, Winchester, CCI & Federal primers are going to ammo FIRST. There are no extra's for reloading purposes... it could be 6-9 months before things get caught up. Sorry for the bleak news, but now we know what to expect in the coming months. Stay tuned, we'll keep you posted...

I read somewhere this morning that one of the manufacturers were making 300 guns per day and still could not keep up...

I got it from a guy I know, in the field, that a company local to us is putting out thirty thousand AR lowers a week. This is a back end supplier to the industry. Forging and casting is what they do.

That is truly amazing! I wonder if it’s possible for the citizenry to amass this kind of firepower, without something horrible breaking out. I sure hope the government doesn’t make any stupid mistakes, like, not keeping their appropriate place.

Does the NRA count as being a member of a “club”?

There's a bit at the bottom that I didn't copy/paste:

They didn’t know when they’d be getting anything back in stock, from magazines to rifles to pistols. Manufacturers were running full-bore, but couldn’t come close to keeping up with market demand. It wasn’t just the AR-15s, the AK-pattern rifles, the M1As, and the FALs that were sold out. It really hit me when I realized that the World War-era M1 Garands, M1 carbines, and Enfield .303s were gone, along with every last shell. Ubiquitous Mosin-Nagants—of which every gun store always seems to have 10-20—were gone. So was their ammo. Only a dust free space marked their passing. I’ve never seen anything like it.

Every weapon of military utility designed within the past 100+ years was gone. This isn’t a society stocking up on certain guns because they fear they may be banned. This is a society preparing for war.

There was already somewhere north of 400 million firearms in private hands so another 65 million doesn’t change the equation a whole lot. The number of citizens who own one or more firearms is somewhere north of 100 million as well. Anyone who thinks the gooberment is going to go door to door and confiscate them should crunch some numbers and look at how much personnel would be needed, how much money would have to be allocated and how many years it would take.

So they’ll be looking for alternatives to the door to door method...

If it comes to a ban (unlikely) I think they want us to voluntarily turn them in like they did in Britain and Australia. IMO we will do as Canadians did only more so. We just won't comply. The fewer who do comply the less they can do about it. The Canadians essentially Cloward & Pivened their registry system. They forced their government to spend the program out of existence.

I don't know what other alternative they have.

Sorry - I don't know.

You can contact CMP and they will will help you find a club and get qualified.

Go to this page: http://www.thecmp.org/Clubs.htm

It provides more info, a way to contact CMP by phone or eMail and has a way you can search for affiliated clubs in your area.

One of the easiest ways to qualify is as a veteran
If you are a vet or have a friend /relative who is a vet and belongs to the American Legion, VFW, Marine Corps League, etc. all it takes is filling out a few forms.

PS - I saw boxes of the CMP 30-06 ammo for sale at a gun show last month - asking price was $200 to $250.

I can remember in the 60’s when I was a teenager, you could buy a 50 round box of .22’s for 50 cents.

If the hardware store owner knew you they would sell 22 rf ammo to a 12 year old back then.
